Channel Update & June Plans

G'day all.

I wanted to provide an update here as it's been a hectic few weeks and we are absolutely due for an update. May has been a very busy month on my end which has driven limited updates here, but with June likely to be a slightly better month there are a few things that I want to flag as being on the Agenda

1 - The next charity poll to decide where the channel should target donations in June & July. While I've been happy to select causes myself in the background, It's an area where I value feedback and input.

2 - Clearing the (very long) Patron message backlog. Suffice to say that while I'm very grateful for the patience you have all shown, I'd like to get up to date and then stay up to date with keeping in touch with all of you.

3 - Q&A collection - While not yet decided on whether my next FAQ will be for YT or just for Patreon, I'd like to start collecting some of your questions again

4- Perun Gaming will return at last (recording starts Tuesday)

5- An update on some international travel and a few conferences that may potentially be relevant to some of you

6- A poll to select the topics for the the first Patron specific updates. A few ideas have been raised before, now I want to get a steer on which is most preferred and integrate them into the regular schedule.

Thank you again for all of your support, especially during these months where I have more limited bandwidth. It very much helps keep me, and the channel, going.

I’m incensed you hadn’t an option for “Allow Perun to rebuild his immunity industrial complex.” Followed by a video on “The logistics of Perun Just-In-Time medical treatments” Get well soon!

Parker Snyder

Take a break and get better. Love the content and will happily wait an extra week or two for content.

Taylor Byford

I am new here, where or how do you suggest new topics to be added to the poll?

Richard Jorissen

Has there been any update about creating a Discord server? I saw the post back from 2022 and figured I would check.

Emeraldleafeon

I would love to see an Australian rearmament and strategy video, there really is big changes happening in the ADF and there is a lot of interesting things you could cover. The army’s pivot to the indo, pacific, the airforces drone program, the doubling of the size of the surface fleet and of course AUKUS. I could definitely help you brainstorm and pit together a few ideas an episode

JP Farrell

Good idea. So is it still ECCM or EP? Where’s my copy of Stimson and my Association of Old Crows hat?

Cods

If you’re interested Perun, I have a few colleagues who would be very interested in understanding the combat casualty pipeline, both generally and specifically in Ukraine as an example. Follow a casualty from wounding somewhere on the front line all the way back through the various stages of the system. Interface between the very military health element near the fighting, to the eventual handover to the civilian health system in the back end. Limfacs, risks, chokepoints, etc.

Cods

Video idea: how electronic warfare has change over the years and current developments

Colm Corbec

Can you do an episode on how you make your episodes? Can you take us through the processes?

Jeremy L

Was wondering if you there would be any chance of a video on non-state actors weapon procurement? Just started the topic in Unit 4 politics and have been finding it quite interesting but wish there was more information on it.

Dominic Jarman

I think it can go on for the full hour given how many and wildly different initiatives there are. The hard part is collecting them, what they've done, and what their impact has been. More importantly perhaps from defense economics is what gaps they filled and how those gaps were missed by the big boys.

Martin

Meta question: I've seen in some comments that videos like how corruption destroys armies that it has been used in military education. What's the feedback your have gotten from militaries and their use of your content?

Martin

Minor detail, but "spend their pledged 2%" is a less misleading wording. It was only a recommendation until last year also, but they now have pledged to reach that.

Martin

Ukraine and Palestine have been conflicts which have also had large civilian impacts, and a great deal of aid being asked for (charity and government), purchased, and deployed to varying success. Is there any chance you could do a video, similar to weapon acquisition and deployment to a battlefield, of aid to a battlefield?

Brad Sattler

I have a question regarding Ukraine that might be good: "what material inputs does Ukraine need broadly to win?" I know that the definition of winning is vague, but what would the monthly/yearly input levels of stuff like ammo, vehicles, aircraft, manpower have to be to do that, roughly. If it's too much then no worries, but I am curious how much we know about it and there doesn't exactly seem to be a plan for me to look at.

Stephen

That sir is a good idea, provided the sources are available of course, but I second it all the same!

Stephen

The current and potential role of China in the Ukraine invasion. Is China only interested as long as Putin appears to be winning, but won't back him if the tide turns? Do the Chinese see Russia as a true partner in the new world power struggle, or just as a convenient ally for now? Does China really want world dominance and a new cold war with the west, or will it settle for a major sphere of influence, with the west as equal partners/foes?

Paul Haynes

I demand an hour length video on the U.S. Army's failed Boston Dynamics robo-mule project!

Jeremy _

I think this is a GREAT question, but too wrapped up in personal opinions and perspectives to make a precise answer possible. (I really like alliteration alot). Personally, I think you can get closer to war by being too hawkish OR too dovish, but it is largely dependent upon you and your opponent GUESSING what each other will do and what each other's motivations truly are. Highly speculative and laced with lots of intentional BS.

Scheraus

...once again, I would like to say I admire and respect all that you do and don't want to ask too much of you.

Scheraus

Some of the topics I would love to see covered (if you feel up to it) are: 1) The propaganda/disinformation war (both obvious and subtle); 2) the contrast in creation of trenches/fortifications on both sides and how it is affected by politics, technology, manpower, etc (possibly talking with Jesse Alexander et al to compare to WW1); and 3) the varying (apparently) perspectives on the conflict by different cultural and age groups - especially in Ukraine

Scheraus

Ukraine has hit long-range early-warning Voronezh-M radars inside Russia at Armavir and Orsk, and Voronezh-DM in Krasnodar. I'd like to see a video on why. The radar at Orsk, in particular, doesn't seem to cover any airspace that Ukraine could feasibly use for anything. Russian commentators have pointed out that according to Russia's nuclear deterrence posture paper, this should trigger a nuclear retaliation. But nobody on a widely read official channel has said that. All by itself, that's interesting. One theory is that by targeting Russian nuclear deterrence assets, Ukraine is demonstrating that Russia's threats to use nuclear weapons should those assets be touched are hollow. Ukraine would presumably want to demonstrate those threats are hollow in order to encourage western countries to help out in ways that Russia has also said would trigger a nuclear response. The interesting thing, to my mind, is that by showing a nuclear deterrent as hollow, Ukraine is questioning the entire idea of nuclear deterrence. That's an incredibly risky move, maybe last tried during the Cuban Missile Crisis. But if its successful, it might reduce our reliance on MAD and potentially open the way toward partial nuclear arsenal reductions. So, I'd like Perun's read. What is Ukraine actually doing and what are the broader implications?

Iain McClatchie

You are doing fantastic work. If May is busy, we can all pester you in June. Keep it up!

Paul LaFontaine

Trump just wants them to pay their pledged 2% share of GDP. That's not petulance, that's pragmatism. Maybe the petulance is other countries not living up to their agreements.

Ken

Hi 1st - I am perfectly happy with your continued selection of topics. Whilst I enjoy the Russian bashing cope cage/ corruption videos, I am a Patreon to support stuff like Arctics, Space and Country Series. 2nd - cool topics I would like to see: - how… destroys countries… - how military logistics works and how Russia/NATO differ - key global chokepoints (Etitrea, Aleutians, Gotland, Karakorum…) - the war for water

Daniel K

Q/A Question- What is the realistic chance that a full scale war erupts between NATO and Russia/China and what are the steps and investments you think would be most impactful to make in the short to medium term to ensure victory in the long term.

Stefanie Butts

This would spite the US, as the allies help to subsidise US production, but I don't think Trump would care about that. If this scenario were to occur, the Western allies would never again be able to rely on US, even if a more pragmatic president were later elected.

Bruce Kingsbury

I'd like your take on a scary scenario : if Trump wins the US Presidency and in his petulance decides that no more US arms, or upgrades, can be provided to NATO (or other allies, eg Australia) , how long until those allies can fill the void with domestic production.

Bruce Kingsbury

I’d be really interested in your How Democracy Destroys Countries video that you mentioned in your last Q&A

Tetaredon

Maybe if you wanted a shorter topic to cover one week. I would be interested in civilian crowdfunding in the current conflicts in Ukraine, Israel and I'm sure elsewhere. Things like World Food Kitchen, Médecins Sans Frontières, even NAFO and individual crowdfunding people on Twitter or TicTok, Ryan McBeth, Artur Rehi, and I'm sure many others. And is it useful or just good headlines. There have been posts how the people in some Eastern European countries raised enough to buy Ukraine multiple Bayraktar drones, or Jake Broe's NAFO fundraiser that has topped over a million dollars inside a week.

Kristian Durvin

As the GPS jamming in Kaliningrad is being reported having impact on even civilan flight traffic and there where reports on HIMARS losing accuracy, is there any plan on russion ECM / GPS jamming capabilities and tactics? If that topic was covered in a previos video I am happy for a hint.

Cortis

You could always make patreon specifi versions of episodes that have some extra content that normally wouldn't get by youtube copyright or demonitization

Christopher Borer

May all your surprises be pleasant.... ... .. .

Larry Johnson

Love the channel, I feel much more informed about whats going on in Ukraine and the World. How about a dive into the resources of Ukraine; Oil reserves, metals, startups, international connections? Thanks ! Again, really like the channel. Dave

David Vennel

Over the duration of the full-scale war many have looked at the stances taken by the USA and other allied nations to ongoing events. I think it would be interesting given various developments to look into China's involvement in this conflict and how it fits into their wider geopolitical ambitions.

CorsaroVolante

Do you have any plans for more interviews? The long form conversations that you sometimes have with subject matter experts like General Ben Hodges are great.

alexander gaitan

I'd like to see something on the function of combat engineers in the Ukraine War. I seem to recall you mentioned the Russians having specific Engineering units creating defenses and the like.

Kurt Paasch

If you do travel, will you be hosting meet ups or something? I’m very keen to see your take on the UK armed forces, and DIB/procurement

Iron Akela

Me, too, but I can see Ukraine not wanting anyone skirting that issue, but if anyone could cover it without giving anything to Russia it would be Perun!

Charles Edward Richardson

While it may be difficult to adequately source material, I'd like to see an analysis of Ukraine's DIB. While we've all heard about their indigenous drone production, not much out there about other systems. A look at Ukroboronprom and it's 130 companies would be fascinating.

Cap'n Dan Doherty

The World War 2 in real time channel has had some problems with their War Against Humanity series. They rightly want to show the horrible things that happened but they run up against content restrictions and demonitization.

Steve Hutton

Other commentators (e.g. Ryan McBeth) have moved to Substack for that reason..

Walter Houser

Let us know when/where you want questions. Also, any "no go" parameters for question subjects or topics

Minion

Interesting question - biggest YT restriction for me is that it severely restricts uses of combat footage.

Perun

Is there any subject that you would like to do, but can't due to youtube content restrictions?

Guy Dudley

No problem dude, take care of yourself too.

Karl Stathakis

Glad to hear you'll have the bandwidth for the gaming channel again soon! Please take care not to burn the candle at both ends though, you, like everyone, deserve to take a breather and just enjoy life for a bit

Biofoot78

Thanks for all you do! You have become my go to source for in-depth analyzes.
