Topic Poll Time

G'day all,

As promised, it's time for a topic poll ahead of tonight's release (continuing the 6th generation fighter series by looking at next generation air-combat drones and manned unmanned teaming)

As always names are descriptive not final, and I may deviate from voting results if a video proves particularly relevant or easier than expected to finish.

I have made very sure to enable multi-vote so if it isn't working, please blame Patreon

Comments

Cargo ships sailing under "flags of convenience", and the economic rationale (or not!) for US and other militaries to defend them from piracy and such, in light of recent news out of the Red Sea.

Agent of Entropy

No new place to put this. Drone swarms was predict by Fred Saberhagen in his Berserker (novel series) see Wikpedia. U.S.Military to produce Drone swarms, one wonders out they will solve communication problem. AI to the rescue, god help us.

Janus_past

On the subject of "Casualties, Battlefield Medicine, & Lessons from Ukraine" I found the following article as I was doing research for the book I am writing: “A Profile of Combat Injury” (Champion, H.R. et al., The Journal of Trauma. 2003;54:S13–S19) https://apps.dtic.mil/sti/pdfs/ADA480495.pdf Also, on a tangential point, I just heard an episode on "A Better Peace: The War Room Podcast" about mobilization saying that the US would need close to a year to start reinforcing units with new recruits if restarting the draft from day one. Anyway, you're doing a grand job mate. Don't burn yourself out, stay safe and may you be in good health, free from suffering.

Niclas Hansemark

Perun considering the latest video would you consider doing a donation stream with Q&A or any other format or are you vehemently opposed to the idea?

shaked migdal

Yeah, I heard that Emutopia is fast tracking their nuke program and are looking rather nervously eastward while the Kiwi returns the look with hungry eyes.

Randall Case

Soviet stocks still being ideal for ukraine it would be interesting to see how nato goes about Adapting and refurbishing old soviet stock. I know poland has the twardy, but how does ukraine get replacement parts for their 2020 model t-72b3's they actively use.

TheDewm

Nuclear modernization, everybody's doing it.

ScootyMcPooty

I'd love to see an analysis on Taiwan

Mike-hunt

I'd like to see a video on any of these topics, but I would prefer the more fringe ones - these tend to be the ones with the most "aha!" moments for me. Generally, the topics that are the most interesting to you tend to be the most insightful for me, so don't hesitate to chose whatever is important to you.

Martin

That would be great

BlackKyiv

Time for Nuclear Modernisation, the topic everybody loves to hate. Edit: Added a second vote to show the Energy & Economics topic some love, Perun's Big Picture/Broad Spectrum presentations have been a goldmine of information on topics that I'd never thought much about.

sixstringedthing

I’m with those who would love to see a nuclear modernization/economic & technical analysis of current nuclear stockpiles covering the US, Russia & China. But as usual, you’ve failed to post any uninteresting topic ideas. 🙂 Looking forward to whatever comes next!

Deorbital Mechanic

All of the above.

Jeremy L

Slovakia presents a big wake-up call on the Eastern Flank if the pro-Russian mob win the election. Weaponising social media to influence democratic elections is clearly a strategy Russia continues to use, and potentially returns more bang than any conventional weapon.

Guy Dudley

This isn't a bad idea for the next poll. I have to believe Russia's failure to help Armenia will hurt the CSTO, but I don't know much about the whole conflict.

Stephen

I will continue voting for nuclear modernization until it goes through! :) Definitely peaked my interest in the drone war though.

Stephen

I did vote, but all great topics!

David Thornthwaite

I expect that simple but relatively autonomous drones can be produced at a price below of thar of a 155mm artillery grenade. It would have a much smaller payload but even with a tiny brain it may achieve a very high precision. In a few years you will see launches of swarms sized 10.000 or more. It will saturate an area and make all movements for humans and vehicles impossible.

Martin Seeger

As an adjunct to MedEvac, how about how surrendering to drones and evolution of "Hors de combat", you could do an intel dialogue with Ryan McBeth on that one - which would be epically awesome.

Robe Pettigrew

I'd be super keen for a video on how you research/structure your videos and arguments. Your videos flow so smoothly, how you piece together a logical flow of information is actually super interesting.

James Musgrave

It's a thing not generally discussed yeah, I'm sure it has been discussed and planned within the military sphere (I'd be shocked if this wasn't a topic at West Point or the other War Colleges) as effecting a solid strategy on how to use ground based evacs with air evacs in a contested air environment.

Jon Deets

Agreed, CASEVAC, MEDIVAC, and the golden hour are interesting topics to consider in peer warfare where air supremacy doesn't exist.

Derek

So many topics, but I have to vote for nuclear modernization. Poor Perun has had this in the can for 6+ months. 😂

Jeff Hoffman

Agreed, would love to see this especially in relation to CSTO implications

Derek

Can I vote for every one but the last one?

Ol Retired Fed

Darn no joke option this poll

Fritz Krammer

No space series option this time? :(

Max Eliaser

Keep going 👍

Larry Johnson

I would like to see the Azerbaijan- Armenia conflict examined. Has Russia previously intervened to support one of those countries?

Kurt Paasch

Electronic Warfare explainer is very much needed

Janus_past

The Medevac story is going to be an interesting take, ground evac is definitely it's own thing compared to an air evac which in the current environment isn't very feasible within a fair distance of the front.

Jon Deets

Loved today's show about drones. Would like to hear more about how the exponential rate of AI development may impact autonomy. In particular how real-world AI by companies like Tesla and comma.ai (using photons-in-controls-out architectures) are or are not likely to accelerate autonomy of drones.

Larry Hewitt

You've really spoiled me to be able to endure other defense analyst Talking Heads who've recovered from their 3 day Ukraine War on-air statement.

Thomas Bernecky

The problem with these multi votes is that I want all these topics covered.

alexander gaitan

MULTI-VOTE TRICK: It didn't work for me at first. But I made one selection, went to the comments, and when I closed the comments it had kept my choice and let me select another. 🪙🪙

Teresa Benson

I'll put in another request for an Electronic Warfare explainer, especially since it seems to be very important for what drones can and cannot do at a given time.

Paul

Dawww no Naval War in Ukraine update this time. Thought it might be necessary since the uptick of attacks on the Black Sea Fleet recently 😅

KrimzonHawka

Next please include option "all of the above" It will save us clicking :)

Ivan Dimitrov

Thanks for mentioning warspotting the other day. Good Project to support on Patreon, like yours!

Mathias Vonende

Poland is the main one, but I’ve read that the Baltic are withdrawing support and Hungary are also doing their best to block any EU aid to Ukraine.

Dan Plimmer

Second this. Poland???

SemperPsychedelic

Would like to see them all, multi-vote is inop on both desktop and android.

Cap'n Dan Doherty

Had to work around Patreon's multiselect jank in their mobile app, but was able to get my votes in. Refreshing the form helped as it saves your choices between refreshes.

Peter Hogan-De Paul

Would like to know the nuances around why Eastern European countries are either drawing their support. Different news outlets sight different reasons and some unbiased clarity would be valued.

Dan Plimmer

The drone evolution topic is definitely vast enough to deserve it’s own video, but should also be addressed within the game changer thread. Perhaps cover it at the end of the game changer video in summary and have us “tune in next week for a deep dive into the world if drones.”

Kristian Reninger

This is interesting if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lebWSl49R0c . I also watched a video on the brain drain from Russia, the intellectual hollowing out of and increased demographic collapse of the country would be a topic worthy of your talents.

Hart

This week’s situation withTurkey-backed Azerbaijan prevailing over Russia-backed Armenia is also interesting.

Annag Chandler

Couldn't get multivote to work - I'd like to see medical evac and drones please

Bob Ogden

One of your incisive analysis of how this conflict is impacting the border states would be interesting especially Moldova and the pressure on its neutrality and its ongoing problem with Transnistria.

Kenneth Crips

I appreciate these polls and I’m glad you run them every so often. But I’ve voted for every item on your list this time and that’s what I almost always do. My interests are broad and you have proven yourself able to make interesting presentations on just about any subject. So I hope my “all of the above” approach doesn’t screw up your metrics!

Joe Trouba

Gave my top 3 but honestly, absolutely all of the above would be fascinating. Thank you so much for your work

Vincent Lavocat

Imma just vote "Yes"

Haji_Bob

Wow all these topics are so interesting!

larumbe

I'd say any of the above.

T.F.S.

Medical evacuation seems fascinating

Andrew Bethards

I'd really like to see the attrition topic especially in opposition to the topic of Russian production & attrition, but all of those are awesome and it makes me excited to know they'll likely come eventually. And that Perun has so much great stuff to teach us that even after this awful war is over, we'll still be waiting for Sunday to come around.

Georgi Georgiev

There's a tendency in these polls (and similar) for the techie topics to do well. This is not only a little depressing (playing war, boy toys, etc), but I feel it ignores the more important aspects of this war. Although himars, storm shadow, atakams, etc might be critical to aspects of the war, perhaps even the eventual outcome, they are less significant than the political and economic aspects of this war. What really matters are things like Ukraine's ability to replace soldiers, Putin's ability to survive politically, the West's continuing support, how existential NATO sees this conflict, China's involvement, the rise of the 'global south', etc. Not as sexy as the latest tech, but far more likely to to be the factors that win this war (or not). And, of course, the aspects of this conflict that you are excellent at explaining. So, my personal vote will always be 'boring' over 'sexy'.

Paul Haynes

Though to decide between drones and "gamechangers".

Alexander Büttner

"all of the above"

Matthias Rampke

I voted not so much in what I want to see, but more what I want to see first

Mathijs Heideveld

*Multiple looks of blame on Patreon* Charitin raises an interesting point about war fatigue though

Niclas Hansemark

Any chance of covering Kiwiland one day? The MOD recently released the Defence Policy and Strategy Statement 2023 and Future Force Design Principles 2023. Was interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Athenor

Any chance to get the audio outside YouTube? Like podcast?

Svilen Ovcharov

Wow. So many interesting topics. I ticked some that I found marginally more interesting than some others, but every single one of them I'll watch with great interest.

Holger Wolff

I always enjoy your content. You know such a lot. No doubt you choose a relevant topic. :)

Elisabeth K.

Honestly I would love to see how medical treatment and trauma care has evolved as it has been a long time coming, however I’m happy with whatever you choose!

Alex D.

On the question of nuclear modernisation, I would be interested in how the rise of India, Pakistan, North Korea, Israel, Iran and even Saudi Arabia as current or future nuclear powers would impact the nuclear doctrines of the US and Russia.

Luna Amy Swan

Love your content perun <3

shaked migdal

I’d be more interested in the Eastern Frank. ;)

Ben and Charlie are hamsters

Agree, hesitant to vote. Would rather let you use your discretion.

Arun Lal

Given all the commentary of « Ukraine fatigue » in the West…

Chariton Iosifides

While I'm interested in the Eastern Flank, I'm happy with whatever content you cover Perun. I always learn something new during your videos! Make sure you look after yourself mate.
