Returning to normal (and my thanks)

G'day all.

Just wanted to say we're coming up on the point where I can take a break from living out of a suitcase. It's very important to me that I continue to do what I do outside the channel, but it's always good to get home.

Please give me a week or so to recover and get back on top of things, then I'll start working through backlogged items like message responses or getting the uncut Anders ready to put up here.

After last week I also wanted to take a chance to offer my thanks. I enjoy doing videos that are a bit more niche, like the introduction to incentives and interests in defence procurement last week. I know those topics will not do as well as those focused on more hot button topics, like Ukraine or things that explode, but I feel they're a part of what I can bring that's different to others on the platform and I hope they're of great interest to at least some of you.

A significant part of why I'm comfortable being less optimised with topic selection is because Patreon is always here even if adsense and sponsorships dip, so thanks for giving me that feeling of extra creative freedom from time to time.

There will be a topic poll in the coming week, after Russian defence production 2023 comes out tomorrow. Look forward to your input and guidance as always, and all the best.

Goddamn asset to humanity over here Peruny!

So many great crossover opportunities, I really enjoyed the Jake Broe interview and have been keen to see more stuff like that. But of course we must allow for the fact that such collabs require an additional level of coordination and production time, and Perun has stated that already he's "sacrificing sleep" to produce this content alongside whatever it is that he does in his day-to-day role that requires him to live out of a suitcase for a week or more at a time. Fingers crossed that we'll see more at some stage though!

Like most viewers, I quickly latched on to Perun's content after All Bling No Basics as a means of trying to filter some reasonably accurate and corroborated information out of the fog of war in Ukraine, presented by someone who quite clearly knows what he's on about. But the more niche/Big Picture presentations have absolutely fascinated me from day dot, and this most recent video was no exception. I come away from every one of these presentations feeling like I already knew this stuff - because a lot of it just seems like commonsense and basic human nature - and I just needed someone to put it all into proper context and explain how it affects events in the real world. I didn't of course, but Perun has the ability to break down these concepts and "join the dots" in a way that makes the whole picture become instantly clear, like one of those old 3D Magic Eye pictures that you've been staring at and staring at and then suddenly the hidden image just pops into your vision like it was there all along. This is a rare and special talent. I hope our man has had a chance to decompress and de-stress and take a bit of time to smell the roses, so to speak.

Funny thing I noticed. as a dane, after Perun's video regarding theories of victory and russian political stability, is that Anders Puck Nielsen (the guy he interviewed from the Royal Danish Defence College), is one of the major sources for all danish national news for commentary on the Russian invation and war. It is almost weekly that he's being quoted in the news.

Can tell when it's back in your core competency and your passion comes through. I actually enjoy these more from a econ/strategy perspective. Likewise, I feel like these videos probably have a longer tail than contemporary Ukraine videos. Even if it doesn't get the same raw number of hits, the level of engagement in terms of likes and comments seems quite impressive? Excited for some crossovers for fun. I heard Tex of the blackpants legion mention you which seems like a hilariously fun crossover if you ever get time.

Thanks for your efforts!

Hopefully you get a chance to chill, and maybe make some gaming content? If that’s too much work though, just chill mate, enjoy the weather, it’s reality nice at the moment.

Peter H

I for one like starting my Monday with a nice pod about things that go fast and explode ...

Julian Wälde

Regarding today's video, specifically the rate of destroyed T-80 tanks increasing. There was a video today stating that in a Russian documentary on the T-80, the Russia government is considering restarting its production. https://youtube.com/watch?v=UC1PeX1jhJo&si=FNKn1mcWoEnLthAQ

BaccoDesinhibire Germanicus

It maybe niche for most people. But for people like me working in the public sector and actively doing procurement work it was like watching a procurement masterclass. Hope there is more videos like it.

Chariton Iosifides

Well said. In a similar situation myself. Facing similar issues. Enlightening stuff!

Chariton Iosifides

I agree, Sir!

Kai Silberstein

......I have wanted this video for months, you just made my morning.

Noah Gephart

I LOVED your video on procurement, I learned so much! I started watching your channel about 2 months ago and I've watched 85% of your videos so far, love them :)

Kevin Pariseau

Echoing some comments from others - what you perceive to be the "niche" topics have been my favorites, bar none (corruption / lies / politics, procurement / incentives, etc). As a civilian sector procurement professional, I use a lot of those topics and principles in my day job and have frankly learned more from your videos than a lot of our paid trainings. If you ever feel disincentivized from making those types of videos, please make an announcement so we can find another way to make sure they're worth your time.

SemperPsychedelic

I prefer the niche stuff. Your depth of knowledge and passion really shine through the clutter. I accept that I don't know how the war will end... After listening to your work, I have a much better understanding of how a particular aspect works. FWIW was in Army Special Operations... Nothing like you see in the movies :( Just endless patrols and raids trying to deny the enemy the ability to establish a presence in a region. Winning a war comes down to doing the basics as efficiently as possible. Ironically being boringly efficient is not going to get anyone a headline in the news, get them reelcted to an office, or even promoted in their military. But, it is going to shift their small part of the war.

David Farning

Really enjoyed your incentive episode. And shortly after finishing it I hear this interview on the radio. The timing between the two was impeccable. https://www.npr.org/2023/09/13/1197954048/the-militarys-struggle-to-modernize

That last video of yours was great, and gave me pause for a lot of thought. It also, in a way made certain historic choices and project failures make more sense.

piritskenyer

1st thought: Imagining Perun in a Black&White 3-Piece Suit with a Orange Tie, Pocket Square, Leather Belt, and Leather/Suede Dress Boots/Shoes. Can't forget a dapper watch with Orange Topgrain Leather. 2nd thought imagining a Chibi perun grabbing all of this power points printouts, stuffing them back into his suitcase and then getting in, himself, and living/sleeping inside. 3rd thought: "Welcome home, mate"

MarakEvans

Here's a cheer for topics like incentives, corruption, and the like. They really help me understand why things are the way they are, and that's more interesting than the umpteenth time something goes boom (although some booms are more equal than others).

John McCarthy

I really appreciate the "un-usual" topics you pick. The angles no one else are taking. Gives a deeper understanding of the complex world of military and war. Keep it up, please

Hans Eriksson

By a quirk of fate perhaps, you’ve found an appropriate medium and an audience that appreciate what you do; certainly nothing wrong with being niche. I’ve personally found all your presentations both informative and entertaining, and so far as I’m concerned just keep doing what you’re doing.

Michael Rymer

Ok, this would make an excellent April Fools video: The exact same style, but dealing with a fictional universe such as Star Wars.

Katana Del Nacht

I'll just reiterate what @MyMomSaysImkeen said.. for all of us really... "Perun is the closest thing to a father I've ever had"

Archduke Abino

That last video was amazing and is why I support your channel. Keep up the great work!

Peter Schuldt

Please take the time off you need! Do what you need to do! I just completed my second round of all your material, so you are giving me time to catch up, too! Thanks for warning me so I don't have to wonder if something bad happened! I love your rye humor mixed with serious discussion of the limits of knowledge and your concise overviews and diving into details. Thanks.

Charles Edward Richardson

I had and have a lot of family and friends working in the defense industry in Germany (naval). It is always „interesting“ when they tell about their job. Sometimes I wonder something gets produced in the end.

Martin Seeger

I have watched every single episode you've produced. Every single one was interesting, informative, and I love your twisted sense of humor.

Matthew Zaleski

Still don't know how you manage to get an hour long video out every week while working let alone travelling across a dozen timezones. Wish I had that kind of work ethic, please take a vacation if you need to lol.

Kye

I like the niche topics just as much as the other ones, so please keep making them.

Frits Spits

You should take some time off though, have an actual unplugged vacation. As much as I enjoy your content, everyone deserves a real break.

John Killinger

I think a lot of us are here to escape the click-bait and mainstream, while enjoying some solid PowerPoints and analysis. ...even if it would be so niche that it'd be just a nukes throw away from the land of Mad Max.

Niclas Hansemark

Like Fallout new Republic national rearmament and strategy video. Live it!

Kai Silberstein

Imagine if he will be doing a post-MAD-strike post-apocalypse military procurement and logistics video one day.

Niclas Hansemark

Even the topics that aren't directly related to Ukraine or "things that explode" are incredibly interesting and you help expand our current real world geo-political knowledge with each video regardless of topic. So keep doing what you are doing brother, it's great stuff!

Matt C.

Thanks for all of your hard work. Your content is some of the best, and I look forward to every new topic.

Rbenn

For the record, I found the topic last week to be great and that topics that aren’t “things that go boom” have learnings that are applicable to daily life in the private sector.

Jeff Hoffman

Keep doing what you are doing, meanwhile i will Start voting for the nuclear rearmament video😉

Kai Silberstein

Thanks for the update, the content & variety’s been really great. Get some rest and downtime!

Fridarey

Welcome home Perun!

alexander gaitan

Yeah man! Happy to be supportive, your videos dropping are the highlight of my Sunday, and the work you do is worth each Patreon penny!

Adrian Garcia

The more niche the better Perun, your enjoyment shows in the videos 😊
