1 Year since "All Bling"

A year ago today I published a video that was very rough around the edges, called "All bling, no basics." In retrospect, it was a really strange decision. During the first week when it was being put together - the narrative was still one that pointed towards Russian victory, and here I was arguing that Russia wasn't actually going to smash Ukraine because of, among other things,.....procurement and budgeting (not topics that will usually make it into discussion on the news).

Since then I've tried to broaden out the topics I've covered, but I'm still happy with the core ideas put forward in that first episode - that the war was more closely matched than people expected, that the Russian military was poorly configured for this sort of war, and that if the West had the will to do so, then it could probably provide enough resources to Ukraine for them to push Russia back.

I mention this in the channel update tonight - but wanted to reiterate here that I have a deep appreciation for all of you who chose to support me in doing this. I hope that you continue to find what I do informative and useful in the year to come.

I was planning a longer note tonight but it's been a bit of a big week in the industry in Australia so I'm very very tired as I post this but please don't let the brevity of this take away from my message of appreciation.

Hope you all enjoy the episode on PMCs tonight!

No idea how I happened upon this, way back when it first came out, but it's been the best YouTube discovery I've ever made. It's the one channel I push other folks towards.

Just so you know my 12-year-old son is very much (also) enjoying your talks. The idea that "things are complicated" and difficult to untangle is such an important lesson.
