I also think you may like lore more than music with them. Just my thoughts. They lean a lot into mythology and books. Think American Gods, the ones you mentioned in the beginning of your video, Homer, eldritch, and Norse mythology, just so much historical context to the lore that I think you’d find interesting. Plus a ton of video game and DND related things. IMO they take those and then apply them to personal things and wrap them together to take out the personalization of it. Because ultimately, at the end they’ve said they don’t want themselves to be part of the music. They want to give people the opportunity to project the meanings that they want or need into the music.

Also based on what you liked on this one. I think you’d like the EP’s and sundowning much more than Eden and some songs on here. A lot of us who liked their earlier stuff like the same songs you thought were better here. Eden imo, is just like, an average album. Gethsemane was welcomed with open arms because up until the part that went more trap-like, it was sounded like it could’ve been on one of those albums. For context on why I think you’d like them more; earlier albums had more prob like genre blending compared to abrupt genre blending, had better mixing imo, particularly on the drums, and a better soundscape similar to gethsemane. Most of the fans that I know who love tool and a7x love the EP’s and sundowning. They changed producers after tomb to Eden and stayed with that Eden producer for this album, and pretty much the biggest complaints we’ve had out of that is how poorly the drums were mixed on Eden. They’re better on this one, but still nothing like those albums. Additionally, II does drums in the studio, Vessel does literally everything else. The math rock was surprising because he’s much more of a piano guy so hearing him go beyond more basic guitar was fun.
