(And yes, it's relating the trauma experienced by soldiers and front line workers during covid, seeing and experiencing things to awful to talk about with people who weren't there) But musically something that ties those two ideas is the sound of a soaring horn before the bridge and again at the end. It evokes Taps, the song played at military funerals. Then you hear the steady repeating note, which is actually a heart monitor. Anyone who has spent time in a hospital room, especially with someone who is dying, has that sound, and the silence afterward etched in their mind. I thought that was a pretty ingenious way to tie the two ideas together. BTW, the heartbeat on the monitor is Taylor's.

The fact that you loved the lakes is chefs kiss! Its one of my favourites of all time. Can’t wait to see you get into evermore. For me i think it has the same top tier writing but with a little more veriation on the production! I love that she stepped out of her box so much in this one, not having any major pop singles and just rolled with it. It was also a very much needed album at the stage of 2020

He said he is not sure when he will get to it as he has a lot of other albums planned for December, so it might not be until the New Year. He also said that he is going to try to do another early afternoon Taylor stream for international people soon though so who knows. Just wanted to let you know it might be awhile!

About his struggles with depression rather than celebrity, and how that affects the relationship with his partner. And Taylor seemed happy/interested by that interpretation too!! So there’s many ways to take it, I also agree that once she says or once it’s figured out what it’s about, it can be hard to see it another way, for better or worse. Sometimes it can really help you dig deep into metaphors or link to other songs, when you do know explicitly what it’s about.

I think we should give credence when an artist says "X song is about Y" but in isolation (or even a twitch live stream reaction) every listener isn't going to grab on to whatever the meaning is right away. BUT what makes Taylor and other artists fun to listen to is that more often than not, there's more to dig your teeth into if you put in the effort to find it. Peace is a great example actually because I find both Taylor's explanation and my silly little head cannon just as fulfilling.

2024-12-01 23:13:59 +0000 UTCI agree but certain songs like peace for example where she explicitly said it’s about her insecurity about her ability to give her partner peace etc. So I get in some cases where like him thinking that's about James is just kinda funny. No shade he can think what he thinks but I think he’d get more out of them if he wasn't so narrowly focused on the threads between all the songs. Her struggles with celebrity and relationships will likely always be a common motif. Anyways I hope everyone recommends the long pond session to him because i’d love to watch the reaction to that.

Of course a song can be about a particular event/situation but it is also art and art is supposed to be interpreted by the viewer. I think it diminishes the artistry of her music when we just say, "no it is about this particular situation" and we don't let people apply their own perspectives or experiences to a record. Also, yes she is a public figure, but isn't it disrespectful to an artist (and childish) when we boil it down to the whole "paternity test" thing?
