Title「Zyagansou」
"Zyagansou" is the title of a rakugo story
(Rakugo is traditional Japanese comic storytelling)
The story goes
Buckwheat Gluttony Proud Man Places Gluttony Bets
On the way, he hides and attempts to digest what's in his stomach by eating "grass which, when eaten by a man-eating serpent, instantly digests what's in his stomach.
Later, when people came to check on the man, they found only a large number of buckwheat noodles sitting where he should have been, dressed in kimonos.
The grass the snake was eating was not grass that helped digest what it had eaten, but grass that digested people.
The name of that grass is "Zyagansou(Means "grass that snakes eat.")".
This illustration was inspired by the story "The grass that makes a person melt".
I read this story in a picture book as a child.
I loved the illustration of the last part of the story, in which a large amount of soba (buckwheat noodles) were sitting on the floor, because soba has been my favorite food since I was a child.
Basically, I like stories with food in them.
I loved folktales as a child and was bought a collection of them for every birthday, and I think they still influence me in quite a few ways.
