Can't remember if this has been mentioned before, but as support ships, the California class is divided into subcategories based on their intended use: command, engineering, science. The Cerritos is an engineering focused ship, which means it has heavy-duty warp core and tractor beams for powering projects and towing things. It has some subtle yellow strips on the nacelles to denote this.

I don't know how far ahead you pals are, but if you're interested in watching the Strange New Worlds/Lower Decks crossover, between seasons would be a good time to do it. It's not required viewing or anything, but it is a ton of fun (and you don't need to have watched Strange New Worlds to enjoy it) and that's roughly when it occurs, chronologically.
