I simply adore Mark Shepard, especially his role on Supernatural. All i want whenever I see him is to have him read me a bedtime story (now makes mental note to check Audible for any books he may have narrated). I HIGHLY recommend the Six musical, it's one of my favorites and I'm mildly obsessed with it! It's a short musical with no intermission, I definitely recommend seeing it live if you can.

Me too.. I also watched the show after it aired, so I didn't even think about the repercussions or the meanings of the abuse/suicide storyline, I just straight ahead went on IMBD to figure out when, if ever, Katee Sackhoff was coming back, because I refused to believe that that's it for Starbuck.. 😅

Ashtara Levin

Since next episode is a 2 part, are you doing them together? Or are you doing them as separate episodes?

I'm following funnlilgalreacts on her Doctor Who journey. She's almost made it to the library.

"- Romo's flat "Yes" to Lee after he asks if his story was true. It's like he's daring you to believe him, while hanging a lampshade on the fact that if you didn't trust the story, how can you trust the answer?" I love this explanation. It sums up Lampkin perfectly. If you think I'm lying, what makes you think asking me if I'm lying will get you an honest answer? He's definitely one of the most interesting new characters in BSG in a while.

John

Canton Everett Delware, III. What a great name.

John

I always paid attention to the number of survivors during the opening credits. 42,400 was a nice round number and easy to remember. First time I saw the 41,399, it was a gut punch. I was in disbelief after watching Malestrom, and this just slapped me in the face before the episode had really even gotten started.

John

No I just meant "for the algorithm" is it better for us to wait for the fully edited version rather than do the full watch along. In hindsight, I'm sure I know the answer and it was a dumb question.

Kurt Yost

Mark Sheppard's father William Morgan Sheppard also starred in Star Trek and Dr Who! It's a small universe!! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Morgan_Sheppard

Karl Ward

And the population count: 41,399.

John

41,399

Paula: Why he got glasses on? Also Paula: I feel like when he's being honest we get to see his eyes. That's exactly why he has glasses on. Not because he's being honest when he takes them off, but because you think he is.

Jonathan

The writing on this and the trial are S-tier.

BSG, introducing a new deeply flawed but fascinating and maddeningly likable character? WELL I NEVER My favourite details: - Pilot near the beginning convinced Baltar gave away their location to the Cylons. Something he genuinely didn't do! Shows how much of a hate figure he's become. - When Tyrol shows the deck crew the bomb Kelly makes a whole speech about how he can't stand lives being put at risk... because they shouldn't be transporting Baltar's lawyer. He doesn't blame the bomber, he blames what they're doing. Foreshadowing! - Tori has obviously been withholding evidence from Baltar's defence, stonewalling his lawyer and the President didn't know. - Romo's flat "Yes" to Lee after he asks if his story was true. It's like he's daring you to believe him, while hanging a lampshade on the fact that if you didn't trust the story, how can you trust the answer? - The stories behind the stolen objects are just so whimsical and awesome. Stealing the President's glasses so she'll look less serious at the trial. Adama's tarnished button showing that 'the soldier in him needs a rest'. And him resisting the impulse to steal Kara's picture (which must have been pretty hard for a kleptomaniac) because Lee's "had enough stolen from him already".

Jonathan

Thanks for coming back!

Mike Connaghan

God, forgot about those. He basically says the same on the Galacticast episode that covers this one, and how he popped over from next door where he was filming 'Bionic Woman' just to snaffle the superior catering! 😅

Troy Convers

You also missed the survivor count dropping from 41,400 to 41,399. 😭

Nolan

I love those commentaries. Ron Moore's sincerity in what he was trying to do really shines through. Also his annoyances when stuff just didn't work. He's very frank. Obviously biased about his show, but those commentaries rank way up there among my favorites. Some commentaries can be awful - just actors goofing off and not really providing additional substance, or people phoning it in as an obligation, sadly the latter Simpson's DVD commentaries felt like this, but after 19 seasons, what do ya talk about? Mwanwhile the Futurama commentaries are a delight. Insightful, funny and well balanced. Shame we won't get some for the latest seasons for awhile. But yes, Futurama and BSG spoiled me for commentary quality.

Nolan

Supernatural is what I always think of first when watching anything Mark Sheppard pops up in. But we just re watched River Song's story in Doctor Who recently and got to see him in it! Not something I'd ever forget for sure - Kat

Hi there! Are you referring to not having access to the show to watch along with us? Cause that will be up to what feels most comfortable for you! YouTube gets the cut down reaction with bits of the episode cut in for reference

Time Lord

"Bonus podcast by Mark Sheppard" etc for audio track options on the DVD sets

A couple familiar faces in this episode. Captain Kelly is back after not seeing him most of the season - he took over Gaeta's roll in CIC during the year on New Caprica after serving down in the launch and hanger bays as basically the air traffic controller. He was in the Miniseries way back at the start. We also saw for a split second one of the lecherous Pegasus boys from Pegasus who were talking about Gina and who beat up Helo and Tygol in their cell on Pegasus. I feel like he had more scenes that were cut to pad out the mystery as a potential suspect. Funny how at the start, the Adamas weren't talking because of Zak's death, and now things are rocky because of Kara's.

Nolan

Is it better for us to watch the version on your regular channel (for those of us who can't watch both)?

Kurt Yost

You guys missed Katee Sackoff's absence from the title credits.

Nolan

From Supernatural? no comment on Canton Dellaware III, Space 1969?

Stephen Wray

Galacticast?

Troy Convers

Ah, we can finally talk about ace attorney Romo (named after Ron Moore) Lampkin, my second favourite character in BSG after [REDACTED] and a breath of fresh air, who brought new depth and dimension to a show that at this point was getting a wee bit stale. What a guy, and a Joe Adama student too. He's good. VERY good. He'll go toe to toe on speech giving with The Old Man, for sure. The part was specifically written for Mark Sheppard and let's be honest, is a genre show truly complete without a guest spot from the legend himself? A superlative actor with charisma for days; I'll happily watch him in anything. He was a huge fan of the show up to this point; that he's placed at this juncture and swoops in to steal the show in this of all episodes tells you how high the bar is, no pun intended. It's a feast of great actors giving mighty performances and worth rewatching a few times to pick out the nuances, especially that scene between Romo and Six. Yowza. Six is still a child when it comes to affairs of the heart, and Lee isn't far behind. Romo holds up a mirror to both Six and Lee and makes them reconsider their definitions of love. The acting is underpinned by a Michael Angeli script that sizzles and is chock full of great dialogue to graze on. The Romo/Lee dynamic, the fallout from Kara's passing (poor, poor Anders) and the Adamas swinging dicks about whose grief is worse, which is completely believable and comes at the worst time for both of them, adding fuel to the bonfire that is their relationship burning to ashes, as Romo is guiding Lee to a higher truth that he can't get to himself, a weird parallel to how Kara was guided. Or is it Cylon-brand manipulation?

Troy Convers

Great actor & one of my favorite characters. Although my only critique is that his constant low, gruff and emphatic tone could have been mixed up a bit more. Been watching the podcast commentaries with Mark Sheppard on my DVD versions. He said he was a big fan of the show, watching every episode as it aired. He remarked the mood on the set felt very off when he arrived, since they had just filmed Maelstrom. P.S. he is in one episode (that I know of) in the Trek universe, maybe one day you will see him in that! (And yes I love his performance in Trek and that episode as well.)
