Comments

I’m loving this and can’t wait until the next episode! I mean, I’m Battlestar Galactica all the way, but Pride and Prejudice is such good quality—thank you for viewing this with us!

David T

decided to rewatch P&P today and found you on youtube :) so here I am, yearning for more reactions ;)

Egor

Yes. You can tell that she is if you watch her in Zero Dark Thirty

SnabbKassa

She’s American?!

Matthew Hanlon

I remember watching this as it aired in 1995, Christ I feel old

Matthew Hanlon

uk and us have different standard frame rates so over they are sped up so you don't get stuttering. it's not as common these days and mostly effects older media. though all hbo shows still have different frame rate :(

GillyBean

That was such a treat! Looking forward to the rest of the series and your exploration of the Jane Austen cinematic universe!

Daria

Yes, the blu-ray / DVD version is 55 mins and amazon version is 53 minutes. not sure if that's because of different frame rates, or some extra long scenes.

Firefly24601

this was lovely. Thanks for reacting to this version as it’s my favourite. The Bingley Sisters’ snobbery is especially insufferable when you consider that the Bennetts technically outrank them. Mr Bennett owns an ancestral estate but Mr Bingley has to rent his house. That makes the Bennets technically the equals of the Darcys in terms of social rank

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

I dunno... my nephew tried to explain it to me (it is probably also the reason the subtitles are not so in sync for the girls) but I still don't get it..

Ashtara Levin

BTW, I recommend finishing this series with a look at the BTS episode (I believe it's on youtube free 30min video) if only to hear Alison Steadman's (Mrs. Bennet) real voice 😅

Ashtara Levin

Funny you should note the costuming of this series - The pink gown that Lizzi wears in this episode is an actual reconstruction of a contemporary dress that survived from this era, the 2005 film Version changed the time period that the story takes place in because the director didn't think like the cut and silhouette of the Regency era, he said it wasn't very flattering for the female figure.

Ashtara Levin

Same thing happened to me. I’m watching on the DVD but kept having to pause the reaction video so the DVD could catch up. Is it possible Amazon is artificially speeding it up?

Matthew McKinnon-Gray

I'm experiencing a weird phenomenon.. I was watching along with my blu-ray version (because I had it handy on my laptop - as I said, I rewatch this every year or so) and my version kept going off-sync from yours. It started fine but then I kept having to pause you guys in order to catch up, I ended up with a 22 seconds delay by the time I gave up and switched to Amazong Prime.. It is so weird for me, I don't feel any difference between the two versions, but evidently some thing is happening .. (my file is also 55 min long, and the amazon version is 53 min... 🤨🤷‍♀️

Ashtara Levin

Welp, it's not 'Pride & Prejudice & Zombies' but it will do.

Mark Ten

OMG OMG OMG OMG! This is the "short thing before "Blackadder"?!?! You guys are spoiling meee!! I love this so so much! this is one of the only shows/movies I literally rewatch annually I'm so excited! Eeeeeeee! 😆😆

Ashtara Levin

When this was first shown in Britain, many people, myself included, could not grasp or did not realise that Jennifer Ehle was American. The Bonham Carters are indeed a long established aristocratic family with many notable members. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bonham_Carter_family

SnabbKassa

I think you’ve seen more than just Rupert Vansittart (Mr Hurst) by this point. Lucy Briers (Mary) was in the ‘Holoship’ ep of Red Dwarf, she was the woman being interviewed to replace Rimmer (another reason for it to be Paula’s favourite!?) Some other actors with Dr Who connections; if you ever get round to watching the classic stories ‘Inferno’ or ‘The Talons of Weng-Chiang’ you’ll see a much younger Christopher Benjamin (Sir William Lucas). Also Susannah Harker (Jane) was in a relationship with Paul McGann for a couple of years. One last connection which I think is really quite cool, especially for this, Anna Chancellor (Miss Bingley) is actually the 8 times great niece of Jane Austin herself! Anyway best of luck with your watch though of this purler of a series.

Chris Fone

So glad you’re reacting to this!!

Brandon

The Sense and Sensibility movie is SOOOO good. Emma, Hugh Grant, Kate, Alan are great. Directed by Ang Lee. Emma Wrote the screenplay. The actor who plays Willoughby and Emma met and fell in while making this movie (and are still together). Hugh Laurie (Dr. House) as Mr. Palmer was a hilarious minor character.

Paul T Hewes

I Claudius is a cold stone classic. A masterpiece in great acting and superb camera blocking overcoming the budget limitations. It stands in contrast with many modern productions that neglect such basics in favour of excessive CGI and far too many jump cuts. And it also features John Hurt (War Doctor) Patrick Stewart (Picard) Brian Blessed (Gordon's Alive!) and Sian Phillips (most recently seen in 73 Yards).

Paul Flux

This is a great idea. Paula mentioned the possibility that if it's a success you might also react to Sense And Sensibility (with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman) or Pride Prejudice And Zombies (with Matt Smith). You should also consider Death Comes to Pemberley (a sequel to P&P written by PD James and starring Anna Maxwell Martin and Jenna Coleman) and for a timey whimey take on the subject Lost In Austen (featuring Hugh Bonneville and Alex Kingston as Mr & Mrs B).

Paul Flux

This is my go-to comfort TV whenever I am sick enough to have to stay home. It's been a few years. Time to go lick some hospital cafeteria trays, I guess.

Jonah Jackson

Very fun reaction. Andrew Davies was very good at adapting books and did a number for the BBC all worth watching. I would recommend "House Of Cards" as very good. If you are looking for other classic adaptions for the future, I would strongly recommend a BBC show from the 70s I Claudius, which is full of great actors, a number of which you will recognise from other things. It is a bit stagey in style but features an great acting performance in the lead role by a young Derek Jacobi (Professor Yana aka The Master) who plays him from 18 to 70.

Martyn Hill

Will there be tanks driven by irate androids?

Troy Convers

So excited to watch this later!!
