Villengard have a lot to answer for. I have to wonder if the star is associated with the Church of the Silence, or is that a little too obvious?

I think that if they'd had the Doctor not be so DRAMATIC when he figured out when/where he was, it would have gone over better. Just a little smile and nod, a quiet "joy to the world" would have been better. Glad Paula liked it though!

2025-01-03 22:24:22 +0000 UTCThere's also a fan theory, which I subscribe to, that the mysterious Shopkeeper in Mr Benn is actually a timelord in disguise. 1) he appears and disappears in any time and place "as if by magic" - clearly a Vortex Manipulator, or a more sophisticated Gallifreyan equivalent. Like the bowler-hatted timelord who appears to warn the third Doctor about the Master's presence on earth at the start of the Terror of the Autons. 2) the door next to the changing room in the shop is a portal to any time and place, always taking Mr Benn to where he needs to go once he's put this week's costume on. 3) we never learn the Shopkeeper's real name, he's only ever referred to as the Shopkeeper. It's a name he chose, like a promise he made. 4) and this might be the clincher, the Shopkeeper always appears wearing a bow tie and a fez! So I'm convinced that the Shopkeeper was another rogue timelord visiting earth, and his tardis disguised itself as a costume shop when it landed at the end of Festive Road in 1971. Sadly I fear he was another victim of the Time War, given that he hasn't been seen since the 1970s.

2025-01-03 21:55:53 +0000 UTCThere's an Easter egg near the start of this episode which brings a smile to Brits of a certain age, such as myself. As the Doctor is taking in the Time Hotel, and the camera cuts between different views, there's a shot of an advert for Mr Benn's Any Era Clothes. Mr Benn was a much loved children's cartoon of the early 1970s. Every episode the eponymous Mr Benn, a respectable gentleman in a suit and bowler hat would take a stroll to the costume shop at the end of his road. Each week he'd notice a different costume, at which point "as if by magic, the shopkeeper appeared" and sent him off on a wholesome adventure in a time and place appropriate for the costume.

And I've seen Trev's actor in a few things but he was really great in this. I'm a bit meh on the ending kinda making the Bible story canon but other than that a pretty good episode. Also has no one noticed the Hobbit door?
