Head-Six gave you the answer you just don't believe her for some reason.

Thontor

Definitely vote for the extended cuts and the unified series finale, all just much better IMO

LogicSequence

This so reminds me of this scene from Tom Baker's Dr Who when he had a chance to wipe out the Daleks. https://youtu.be/9PXdwqlJ19U?si=5tXlIXKmznOqEq2D

I chimed in about the extended episode last week. Even if you choose not to view it for the reaction, it's worthwhile to watch it after for your own experience. I've never actually seen the TV edit, but I can't imagine losing any moment from this particular episode (let alone 25 mins!).

Daria

It also perplexes me how mighty white the colonials are, overall. Is that a plot point, or just biased casting? And thinking about your point, the two Cylons we see in manacles are Black and Asian. Humanity really ain't worth fucking saving.

Troy Convers

Yeah, Adama left a ship behind. His conscience is hardly clear. And anyone spouting the nonsense that Helo is the moral compass of the show didn't watch the episode closely enough.

Troy Convers

I vote in favor of extended episodes, as I have both the standard and extended versions.

Firefly24601

In a way I am glad they also had Sharon in the same type of manacles first. Because YES Simon in manacles was not the best optics ever.

Firefly24601

At the end it feels like Roslin even suspects Adama might have had a hand in it, the way she says "how convenient" when he refuses to investigate.

Jonathan

"How very convenient... that I have no one to point the finger at and put my self-hatred on right this minute."

Nolan

Roslin is hugely affected by sitting under that whiteboard every day. She definitely feels more personally responsible for the survival of humanity than any other person. At the end I get the impression she's more mad at herself than Adama or Helo. She crossed the line, she came out in favour of genocide and violated all her moral principles and it turned out to be for nothing. She has to live with being that person, while Adama can sit back and say it was never his choice.

Jonathan

I've said it before, but several of the Cylon models are virtually defined by a desire to be loved. And D'Anna is definitely one of them. She might have felt true love for the first time when she held Hera (as the priest promised her), but this is the first time someone else has ever claimed to love her. It will mess her up. And if we lean into the idea of Head Six being Baltar's subconscious trying to help him out, professing love was a far better way to manipulate her into stopping the torture than his first attempt.

Jonathan

BSG is a REALLY good examination of othering and de-humanization. To the Colonials, the Cylons are basically either Nazi's or the type of scary boogeymen of propaganda. And after a deadly war and then a near total genocide that view is FIRMLY ingrained. And the Cylons did, unanimously, kill billions of people afterall, so as far as the Colonials are concerned, their view is MORE than justified. As for the Cylons, they see humans as slave drivers who restricted their freedoms and ignored their autonomy. And now in this episode, the Colonials very nearly do the exact same thing that they view the Cylons as inhuman monsters for doing. And they justify it just like the Cylons did. These people have a hegemony of hate, and it's been too roiled up recently to be going anywhere anytime soon. You aren't necessarily rooting for these characters all the time with this show. What you are rooting for is hope. As for Roslin, above all she thinks about keeping humanity going, no matter the cost. Ever since the start, that been her driving force. She's gone against her principles, her morality, her own mortality and her reputation to keep humanity going. She doesn't care what people think of her, so long as there are people left to do so. Regarding the extended editions, I'm all for them, and I have the DVD. This show is so good at character work, more of that is always a plus. And IMHO, one of the S4 episodes also needs it. And the extended finale is also good, but has many versions. And the 2nd movie I highly recommend watching before the finale.

Nolan

The answer, my friends, is blowin' in the wind. The answer is blowin' in the wind. Presumably stellar wind, because space.

Mike Connaghan

Clarification: There are only 12 Cylon models and Boomer once said there were 8 in the fleet. She did not say if they were unique or if there were, ahem "many copies." And since then, New Caprica happened. And none of the Cylons talked about seeing the other 5.

Nolan

Agathon is meant to be an idealist, a voice of conscience, a good guy; after all, it's in his name. Well he blew that perception out the airlock by war criming the Cylon prisoners, one of which is basically his baby mother's sister. Or is he blinded by love? Either way, is he now as much a traitor as Gaius, another man blinded by love, or at the very least the contents of his jockstrap? Roslyn the pragmatist sees the chance to eliminate an enemy who would do exactly the same to the Humans, and a piece of her soul is probably a small price to pay. Speaking of Gaius, has his delirious ramblings of love for Head Six inadvertently made Three fall for him? I thought the way she was trying to manipulate him as few eps ago seemed rooted in a grain of personal truth. An interesting dynamic is forming. The optics of a black man in manacles. That's... difficult to look at. I struggle to see why it had to be that Cylon, the token black Cylon at that. What are you trying to tell us, Ron? Speaking of the message Mr Moore is trying to send: a virus, used by the good guys to infect a hive mind? You've done that trick twice before (Borg, Changelings) but in fairness, this time we're examining the moral and ethical implications involved *slightly* more thoroughly than the clunky way he's written it before.

Troy Convers

We've seen that trick twice in Trek, both times by Moore.

Troy Convers

Just kicked the ball down the road.

Troy Convers

very similar to the I Borg episode in Star Trek, when Picard looking to return Hugh to kill all the Borg, also missing the King of the Potato people from Quarantine

Stephen Wray

Adama's half smile right before they jump always sticks with me. I think he was happy about the outcome.

Cameron Warren

Unfinished Business is a huge character episode (good and bad) that has extra scenes interspersed throughout the episode. It's in the DVD box set, no idea about Streaming. But it's a good watch.
