2024-12-27 21:45:49 +0000 UTCFrom the Doctor's perspective, he's just met her post death. She's already dead and is an echo of herself. When he says goodbye to her, she fades away. That is the last chronological version of River he meets. Later, when 12 meets her again, it's a surprise (probably the TARDIS trying to perk him up post Hell Bent) and, upon arrival on Darillium, he knows he has to close the loop. He gives her the screwdriver and scans her, knowing 10 will upload her and 11 will meet the Data Ghost version of her on Trenzalore.

2024-11-22 00:15:36 +0000 UTCOne of the problems is that Moffatt kept writing Clara out based on Jenna saying she was leaving the series and then Jenna changed her mind so although the story was headed towards her exit, she remained and Moffatt had to retcon the episodes.
