Alex's acting is superb in this, but the acting across the board is really good too. Every actor sells their role and their part in the story so well. Yes, it's a great script by Stephen Moffat, but the acting and directing really makes it shine.

At the time Capaldi gives river the screwdriver he is using sonic sunglasses exclusively which leaves the screwdriver unaccounted for and if you think about it Capaldi gives it to river then it immediately goes back to Tennant so after Capaldi gives it to river in the husbands of river song then he can just go and get it the version of the screwdriver he's had in storage from back when ten picked it back up!
