Red Dwarf | Twentica | Season 11 Ep 1 | Get Dwarfed

Comments

I'm finally back! I haven't had access to the later series for a while, but I've remedied that and now I'm heeerrre. Commenting to the void! I do like Twentica, quite a lot. Particularly the science speakeasy, and of course Harmony. Naturally, the shipper in me was delighted to hear Harmony literally asking Lister if he's into electrons, specifically "particle and waves" - which is, of course, a reference to light. Light changing state, even, alluding to soft and hard light holograms. In this essay- Love y'all.

Pleased to see that all the Dave era Dwarf are back on the BBC IPlayer, so if you have access to that it’s much easier to watch along with. Always enjoyed this episode, it’s got some great and quite clever gags in the second half.

Jakob1978

The "in-deterministic physically discontinuous transitions between discrete stationary states" line gave me massive Soliciumfrankolithicmixyalebidiumrixydixydoxydexydroxide vibes.

Troy Convers

OMG, I was trying to place where I'd seen her before!

First half always feels like a weak series 6 retread for me, but the stuff on Earth is absolutely top drawer Dwarf, Lucie Pohl is phenomenal, one of my all-time favourite guest performances in the whole show, the writing is really snappy and doesn't have some of the slight flab the Dave era can suffer with, Kevin Eldon is superb as always. fwiw, absolutely nothing has been confirmed about next year's special(s) yet, but every time a cast member mentions an idea that's flying around, everywhere online reports it as official. Ganymede & Titan is probably the only site doing accurate reporting on it, and at the moment it's still 'something is almost certainly coming but nothing official yet'. Last thing Craig said was it's going to be a 90 minute episode, so the three part format seems to be off the table again.

Absent With Concept

Knew these gals would immediately fall in love with Harmony! She's easily the one part I remember the most from this episode. If you had fun with this one, then you'll love this season as I think this one is its weakest episode.

Sebastian Bodine

Kevin eldon as the main bad guy is in literally everything, even in doctor who and a hell of a lot of sitcoms and sketch shows. And as mentioned that actress was previously prea the ship computer in father and son

Frank Murphy

It looks like most of the cast has done some videogame voice acting (among lot of other things), namely - Lucie Pohl (Harmony) is the voice of Mercy from Overwatch, David Sterne (Bob the Bum) voices Corypheus in the Dragon Age series. Also Suanne Brown (female police officer) who I totally did not recognize is Hathor from Stargate SG-1. And as far as toasters go I'm not sure I ever saw a pop-up toaster in real life come to think of it.

Makhiel

Did someone say they wanted toast?

Chris Devlin

I like this episode a lot even if it's not one of my favourites. Fun facts - the first woman who speaks to them in the speakeasy - Beryl - is the same actress who played Pree last series. And the woman cop is Suanne Braun who played Hathor in Stargate SG-1.

Sue the Scottish Geek

I remember as a kid when men wore hats like that all the time. My dad always had 2, one for everyday and one for holidays & dress. I miss the look and the crew really pulls the look off.

Mark Ten

Harmony de Gauthier is modelled on one of my personal heroes, Louise Brooks, a prewar actress and the person that basically popularised the bob haircut.

Troy Convers

Your toaster info is WRONG! Looks like the hoax is still circulating!!: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_MacMasters_hoax

Stephen Andrews

My favourite ep of the Dave run next to The Promised land; another Whovian premise written by a Naylor who's hit his solo writing stride. Yes, the starting premise is cribbed from [REDACTED], but the one liners (the density gag - chef's kiss) and the visual gags (we finally see Kryten's nips!) And did you spot Rebecca (Pree) Blackstone as Big Bang Beryl?
