Comments

In that same episode where she says she's an "angel of God" I think it was 2x7. It was her knowledge of Sharon's pregnancy. Gaius himself noted that she had foreknowledge of Sharon's pregnancy and they also ruled out a chip so Gaius himself says she cannot be his own creation and he asks Head-Six "What are you?!"

Thontor

Btw, I've never had dreams where I lose my teeth but I have where I lose other parts... well, one part in particular... well, not "lose" so much as it's detachable...

Ben Chan

When was it established that Head-6 knows things Gaius couldn't possibly know? It always seemed to me she either played coy with disclosing info, or she would hint at stuff that Gaius might have picked up on subconsciously. I'm actually asking because I don't recall.

Ben Chan

Not sure, but between Helo, Chief, Balthar and maybe even Adama I would doubt it. (maybe even Starbuck in that one episode)

Ben Chan

The mention of file-sharing networks in the intro reminded me: Back in the day, my ISP sent me a copy of a letter they got from NBC Universal informing them that someone (me) with one of their IP addresses was distributing their intellectual property without permission. I'd acquired a few eps of BSG (I think the original Pegasus eps) and left them in my upstream folder. It wasn't a lawsuit or full-blown cease-and-decist, but one notch below that. Basically, "Knock it off, or we WILL sue." I got a lot more careful after that.

Ken Quick

"What kind of people are you?" -Anders after bombing the cafe. Is that the first time a Colonial has referred to a Cylon as a person and not a machine?

John

Just a reminder to a conversation we've seen between Gaius and Head-Six. It was established that Head-Six is not a chip. It was also established that Head-Six knows things that Gaius couldn't possibly know so she's not a manifestation of his subconscious. Gaius asks "who, or what, are you exactly?" Head-Six responds "I'm an angel of God. Sent here to protect you, to guide you, to love you." Maybe Head-Gaius is an angel of God sent to protect, guide, and love Caprica-Six

Thontor

Adama walks up to a cylon and says "every man is a liar". If he's lying then every man must be telling the truth in which case every man is a liar and so on. If he's telling the truth then every man is a liar in which case his statement means that it's a lie. The Cylons all pack up and go away.

Karl Ward

So many unforeseen twists and turns! I knew enough to brace myself, but I was still surprised. But enough about my errands. This thread is for spoilers. First I have to recover from my errands.

Mike Connaghan

Agreed. There is also the puzzling feature that Sharon on Kobol quoted Adama’s question he asked to the dead Boomer in the morgue—“Why?” Perhaps even dead Cylons continue to record and upload “memories” of their surroundings after they die.

David T

The reason that the Sharon that was on Caprica with Helo has the same base set of memories as Boomer is that she needed those memories for her mission with Helo. Boomer was given a back story so she could pass for human and infiltrate the flee and they copied all of her memories up to the point of the attack and gave them to the Sharon that stayed on Caprica with Helo

Terrell Kirkman

I got a little side-tracked. Okay, get ready for those spoilers. But first, I have new errands today.

Mike Connaghan

Best watch Razor now too; to hell with the fact that it was broadcast after S3.

Troy Convers

Boomer was also a sleeper, who we've seen has woken up from tasks with no memory, so one could reason that, as her memories of certain events are erased, they are also transmitted while in her Cylon trance.

Nolan

Gals, you really should watch the Battlestar Galactica: The Resistance webisodes that were released between Seasons 2 and 3. You will be better informed going into Season 3. Please.

David Brown

It gets especially interesting now because Head Six DOESN'T seem to know Hera is still alive. And she has told Baltar stuff before, but nothing that 100% couldn't possibly have been a lucky educated guess...

Jonathan

I'm expecting Laurence Olivier to turn up at any moment! 😂

Troy Convers

Something that hasn't got mentioned this episode that I think should be - the "good guys" BOMBING A CAFE. With the express intention of showing an occupying force that they will never be safe anywhere, and they need to leave. Considering what was happening around 2005-6 when this was released, it's another example of BSG not being afraid to jump RIGHT into contentious political topics.

Jonathan

I'm guessing that when a copy dies, its memories get copied into a database, when activating brand new copies they can implant and/or modify memories from any other copy that has been uploaded and updated in the mainframe.

Jack Mingle

They've never really explained why the two Sharon models have overlapping memories. Personally I think it was something they wrote before they really had figured out how the resurrection mechanic worked and they just never went back to it. Head Gaius raises so many questions that you'll have a great time figuring out. I would be careful with comments as a lot of people are veering dangerously close to spoiling stuff. Not deliberately, or maliciously, but just through leading or suggestive questions and statements. It's best to remain vague and only comment on things that have explicitly been revealed so far. I want to see them come to their own conclusions, which is more fun. Especially if they are miles off the mark or nearly spot on.

Chris Devlin

I always viewed it as each individual Cylon has their own memories, but once they download those memories can be shared across their line. The show isn't totally consistent with that theory, but it works for me. It also means two of the same model that are alive at the same time may not share all of each other's memories and experiences.

John

I'll just put these here to keep the spice flowing. Obviously we've seen Head Six tell Gaius things Gaius himself shouldn't know, which is odd if it's his subconscious. At the same time, though, i think we can all now tell it's not just Caprica Six beaming into his head. How that is?? Is Gaius that smart he can work out things in his subconscious that he doesn't even know consciously? Oh and "Start with the elephants" - Head Gaius. How the hell does Head Gaius know the way to get Sharon to work with Caprica Six is to mention some random ornamental elephants on a table?? Even if subconsciously Caprica has figured out that D'Anna (#3) is against them, little elephants on the table are the key to getting into Sharon's graces? How that is?? Obviously any more would be spoiler territory, but i don't know if the mystery is solved yet, or not. If it's just their subconscious minds, then there's something else special about Caprica Six and Gaius... P.S. The Sharons: For this, i'm going to call the first Sharon we ever met, Boomer; and the one currently on Galactica Sharon. Boomer was planted on Galactica 2 years before the attack (Adama mentions this), she was a sleeper who didn't know what she was. When Helo gets stranded on Caprica, the Cylons use the opportunity to plant Sharon with him. Boomer and Sharon share the same memories up until the point of the attacks on the colonies. Boomers memories are copied into Sharon so that Sharon will be a believable Boomer to Help. After the attack on the Colonies Boomer and Sharon's memories diverge, they only share pre-attack memories. Anything that's happened to Boomer post-attack Sharon doesn't have access to, and vice versa, anything that's happened to Sharon after the attack, Boomer doesn't have access to. This is, we can imagine, not the norm among Cylons as alternate versions of the same model are often very different from one another; but Sharon was specifically given Boomer's pre-attack memories for a "special mission", i.e. boink Helo. Timeline wise, quickly, we have Boomer first on Galactica, leaves Help on Caprica. Boomer stays on Galactica all throughout season 1. Sharon is introduced to Helo on Caprica and stays with him all throughout season 1. At virtually the same time (within weeks in-show) Boomer and Sharon switch physical locations, Boomer is downloaded to Caprica, and Sharon escapes with Helo to the Fleet and Galactica at the beginning of Season 2. Neither Boomer nor Sharon have met the other, nor have they been in the same physical location at the same time. I think of it like this: they're "twin siblings" that grew up together until they were 18, then moved halfway around the world from each other and lead vastly different lives thereafter. They have the shared memories of their youth, but the rest of their life experiences have made them completely different people. In the same vein i think we can safely assume that neither Caprica Six, Head Six, Shelly Godfreed, nor Gina are the same Six either. They are all quite different personalities, except possibly Head Six and Shelly.

LogicSequence

"eventually" as in something the Pals haven't seen yet? Then why are you talking about it?

John

Okay, so first of all, ... I just have a few errands I gotta run, then I'll get back to the details.

Mike Connaghan

Allow me to shed more light on the revelations of this episode via an extensive discussion of future events in the series in great detail in the replies.

Mike Connaghan

Kat and Paula's teeth nightmares are horrific, holy shit.

Jack O

I like your discussion about Roslin at the end and her power trip. It's interesting because if she truly believes she IS the chosen leader in the Sacred Scrolls, then she has to trust her own judgement that whatever she does is necessary to lead the people to Earth. It's easy for us to see from the outside and think it's gone to her head, but it makes me wonder what it would be like from Roslin's perspective if she believes this is a roll she's playing, whether she wants to or not. But yeah, Roslin is definitely out of line taking Hera from Sharon.

John

My favourite episode of the season, and easily in my top five for the whole show! I'm just in awe at the ability of Tricia Helfer, Grace Park and James Callis to embody such different characters. It's also amazing that Caprica Six - a character who we should all hate because she was absolutely key to the deaths of billions - is so sympathetic.

Ross Nolan

As far as why both Sharons have the same memories, keep in mind that this series came out around the time that everyone was adopting newly discovered “wi-fi” internet technology. It stands to reason that just as wi-fi is capable of updating itself periodically, Cylons like Sharons are probably given access to regular “wi-fi”updates broadcast from the nearest resurrection ship—these updates could periodically download more current sets of memories. In fact, I have noticed that many different Cylon models comment on things that happened to other versions of their model, including quoting from Adama’s retirement speech in the first part of the miniseries.

David T

This is my favourite episodes of the first two seasons. It's incredible! I did interpret Head Six and Head Baltar very differently to yourselves when I first saw the episode. No spoilers for anything to come, just my view on how I thought they were presented here. Both know things that their "host" doesn't. Head Baltar knows Three's plan, and Head Six has been feeding Baltar information all this time. They couldn't be hallucinations. My conclusion at the time, was that they were some sort of metaphysical third party, some other form of puppet master. Head Six is the Devil on Gauis' shoulder, driving him to evil. Head Baltar is the Cherub on Six's shoulder, driving her to good. Though at the time, I couldn't figure out if they were working in collaboration, or as opponents.

Sharon and Helo eventually realize and accept that their baby died…its not a huge stretch given we are talking about the first interspecies breeding and this is all happening shortly after people found out that cylons can look so real….so all sorts of medical complications are not hard to believe. Also just anyone giving birth now in their world is doing it in some pretty old style conditions…no real large hospitals or tons of medical staff or nicu facilities etc

Derek Orr

Roslin's decision is hurt a little bit by the cutting of a subplot (WHERE would the time have been for that) of the Cylons Gina and D'anna actively working out their plan for kidnapping the baby Hera. I mean, it's not a great decision still, but at least we were shown the justification that what she did, did in fact, stop that baby being taken by the Cylons. I was shocked when watching the deleted scenes to see that whole sub-plot excised. And again, it's Roslin, putting her wanting to keep the fleet safe above all else. How far is she gonna go for that? Oh, most importantly, don't forget to checkout the Webisode series "The Resistance" between season 2 and 3! Now, did you notice the score for when Head!Gaius appeared was the score for Head!Six played backwards. Such parallels, much good. What this episode is, is a dang good look at what "Othering" is and does. The hypocrisy, the coldness, the disregard, and how those who Other fight against their ideology being questioned: "No, you were corrupted by your experiences!" "If it's good for them, it's bad for us." And Both sides do it. They always do.

Nolan

The Sharon that shot Adama and the Sharon with Helo are two different Sharons. The one with Helo said "I'm Sharon, but I'm a different Sharon," on Kobol. 54:49 "We did see her physically on the ship that one time." The one on Galactica was "Shelly Godfrey." The one only Gaius sees is "Head Six." The one with Gaius on Caprica before the bombs fell was "Caprica Six." The one that was tortured on Pegasus was "Gina Inviere." None of them are the same. "There are many copies." We've seen Tricia Helfer give amazing performances differentiating the personalities of each individual Six.

John

Fun fact, the music we hear when Head Gaius arrives is a digitally reversed version of Head Six's theme. Such a good twist introducing him. All this time we've been assuming Head Six is a lot like the actual person Baltar knew on Caprica. But as this demonstrates, Head Six and Head Gaius can be a lot meaner in personality than their real-life versions...

Jonathan

Suuuch an incredible episode. Rewatching it many times, just makes me like it more. When I complain about some of the sidetracks, it's mainly because I think - what other potential episodes like this did we miss out on. Could there have been a couple more integral, profound, legendary episodes like this one that we never got to see.

Locoturbo

Napster? Limewire? Oh god, we're all getting old!

Troy Convers

And now we start to blur the lines even more between the Humans and the Cylons, and who is the protagonist and antagonist. The irony that the stupid Hoomons have corrupted some of the Cylons with their values and ethics is probably going to be Humanity's salvation as much as Hera. I completely forgot that Hera was given to the Geminon woman from the last ep; they could have given her to Shevon (Lee's booty call from 'Black Market') and just eliminated that duplicated abortion plot thread. And ladies and Gentlemen, you've now met the deliciously mischievous Head Gaius, unique to Caprica Six; James Callis could have played a fantastic Loki, had the Thor films been a thing. Now, are the 'heads' a symptom of PTSD in both of them, or are they interlinked, given their position as the custodians of the next evolution of Cylon? And don't be so sure that Gaius is a Cylon, despite the false reveal. But the question that's still not being answered is: just HOW did he survive the nuclear blast? A fascinating episode, and some next level acting from the main players. As an aside, it's nice that there are Citroens, Rovers and Tatras as well as Daddy Thrace's Hummer in the Twelve Colonies. Oh, and did you catch the Citroen's numberplate? Heh.

Troy Convers

Ron Moore's favorite episode.

Mark Chrisco

The Gals opening just makes me glad that I do not remember my dreams haha
