Inking page 5!

Okay.  Real work day has started but just wanted to show off a little bit of inking before I go to earn my pay.  I now ink aliased so the lines are all in hard pixels and not smoothed at all.  This doesn't look good like this but this is 600dpi so when it comes to exporting it to print size (150-300dpi) or posting size (50-75dpi) the jaggies disappear and the lines look much crisper.

A small detail that I started doing a little while ago was to draw the eyebrows and eyes inside of the hair so the hair looks a little transparent when I color it.  I found this really helps with keeping cues for facial expression and in reality, hair is a little transparent anyways.  I also think this keeps me from cheating on hair styles.  In the past, if I need to show her eyebrow expression yet the hair does not allow it, I'll cheat with the hairstyle to make sure the eyebrows can be seen.

Line weight has always been a struggle for me so its something I have to keep on working on.  One cheat people do is toned lines but I love the traditional black ink look so I'm sticking to that.

I wish! I guess this isn't technically inking... "Linework"? I india inked only once before. "Tub Thumpin'"... my first Little Lorna comic. I screwed up so many times inking it was an exercise in frustration. It didn't turn out too bad for my first try but I was working on speed of production back then and it really didn't jive with what I was trying to accomplish. I'm constantly trying to change the dynamics of my digital brush to get that ink look to the "Thicks n' Thins". Getting close!

When I glanced at this thumbnail, I thought, 'Sinope's inking traditionally now?' So yeah, you fooled me until I read the copy.
