2023-12-14 22:51:51 +0000 UTCThis episode (well, this whole season, really) is a pretty good illustration on why *most* Red Dwarf fans agree that Chris Barrie is the series' not-so-secret weapon. By this point, all of the cast is really a murder's row of comedic acting, and series 5 and 6 really is peak Red Dwarf where everything is firing on all cylinders (writing, acting, sci-fi concepts, FX), but Barrie really is the stand-out in series 5 because they really put him through *a lot*. Don't listen to the naysayers on later series. While I'm not fond of series 7, it has a couple of stand-out episodes. I do like series 8, but that's because I love the Lister-Rimmer dynamic during that run. Plus, I think the Dave seasons (series X through The Promised Land), while not at the same high as Series 5 and 6, are also quite good.
