I got my first formal autistic diagnosis at 40 and my ADHD diagnosis at 42. Completely slipped through the diagnostic cracks as a kid of the 80s/90s. Got informally diagnosed autistic by a psychologist in my 20s, who didn’t even tell me (they told my parents, whom I had given them permission to disclose to). Spent my 20s and 30s trying to ignore and suppress my neurodivergent identity. Feels like I wasted my youth wallowing in internalized ableism. At least now I realize my own worth and that being neurodivergent is just a natural variation of the human existence I can and should take pride in.

And this is coming from someone who was diagnosed with Aspergers before they shifted the term as well. :) Not to mention ADHD, Deprression, and a few other not so fun comorbidities. :(

and of course the bundle of sticks or cigarettes. ;)

Kat and Matthew; Same here. my assessment was at the age of 55, that's six years ago and, fortunately, my assessor is actually on the spectrum himself and has dyslexia. I have dyscalculia, amongst a few other inconveniences. For maths, I cannot help getting a fail. Also coordination issues - like Ryan! Forget ladders and bicycles, driving or - sadly - playing a musical instrument. My dad was a really good violinist! That sucks! My brain can't negotiate those skills. Still, being a perpetual student is all part of being human! In these days of - as Dennett calls it, "The Explosion of Transparency" we're all trying to keep up with learning new skills and communicating to more people. Hope all goes well with the strike. They need to descend from their ivory towers and listen to the bods at ground level. it seems the only way to communicate with them is to take industrial action. A shame.

The only word that I've heard that has an ruder meaning in the U.K. than in the U.S. is "fanny". To those across the pond, I apologize.

The more we know. It's all about learning and just adjusting! It's such a simple task, thank you for informing me! - Kat

Kat, just as a heads up (as I know you didn’t mean any offense by it), the term “special needs” is a slur. Firstly, many people use “special needs” as a euphemism for “disabled.” There is never a need to use any euphemism for the word “disabled,” because it is not derogatory. Secondly, the term “special needs” is dehumanizing, especially when someone is referred to as a “special-needs individual,” because it boils down their entire existence to the type of support or accommodation they need. Lastly, the term “special needs” suggests the needs of disabled people are unique and apart from that of the entire rest of the human race. As an example of how arbitrary this is, if one person was nearsighted, we wouldn’t consider a pair of glasses or contacts to be a “special need,” yet, if an autistic person were sensitive to bright light and needed to wear sunglasses indoors, many people would stamp that a “special need.” In that case, two accommodations are virtually identical, yet only the accommodation used by a disabled person is deemed “special.” Disabled needs are human needs, not “special needs.” I’m sure plenty of my fellow patrons will chime in as usual to tell me I’m being too sensitive and the term “special needs” is benign and wonderful. I can’t speak for them, but I can tell you that, as an autistic/disabled individual, if a friend or family member referred to me as “special needs,” I would be so offended, I would cut them out of my life.

Also... can you give us a hint on the british bad word so we know to avoid it too cause I'm always learning new words to avoid :)

Here's a good summary :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMcTighUeEE

FalcorDragon

The Drinking out of Cups audio was from a musical project and that was his stream of consciousness recording of a character he was working on watching TV with the sound off and was intended to be a parody of long island stereotypes

FalcorDragon

This was totally fun! I do remember the End of The World vid. "WTF Mate" was normal language. Homestar Runner with Trogdor the Burninator was pretty common for my friends to share. But I think I went to allfunnystuff for vids and soundboards around that time in addition to Youtube. My earliest Youtube vid was probably "The Kitty Cat Dance" or "Charlie the Unicorn." But after that I did watch the "Dr. Tran" stuff and "Happy Tree Friends." This stuff kinda gives us lease to be silly and laugh at the most ridiculous stuff. Before all of this, the only vids I watched were on appletrailers. Like I distinctly remember watching LOTR Fellowship, The Mummy Returns, and the Special Edition of the Superman on appletrailers in my partners's dorm room on their laptop in early 2000.

Honestly, the funniest part to me was Paula thinking anyone was gonna do math on a Friday 😁. This was fun though - hope you do more!
