So glad that you gals are really getting caught up in this story! I remember back when the New/Modern series started, back in my LiveJournal days (#iamgeriatric), we'd often recommend new fans to go back and watch the Classic series and many of them wouldn't do it because they'd say it was 'boring' or 'didn't count' or whatever. It always made me sad, as even though the Classic series has it's ups and downs like many shows, there are some real gems there. And even in a story like 'The Keys of Marinus', which isn't my biggest fave, it has some great moments and some real tension. <3

2023-06-08 18:37:02 +0000 UTCIf I recall correctly, putting the burden of proof on the defendant rather than the prosecution has been far more common across history than the system we're used to— in fact if I'm not mistaken it's the rule in France to this day: once an investigation leads to charges being filed, the defendant's guilt is presumed and it's on them to prove their innocence. Though we take it for granted that the prosecution has the burden of proof, overall that's the exception rather than the rule. So the justice system of the city of Millennius in this episode isn't all that surprising.
