GALLIFREY GALS GET WARPED... Paula plays: STAR TREK VOYAGER ELITE FORCE

While there may be a slight blip in the TNG reactions... Paula wanted to make sure that there was still something to entertain!  So let's all collectively say, THANK YOU, PAULA ๐Ÿ–ค

Got it as a gift when I was a kid. Never worked right. Got to play just enough of it that I knew it was a great game but never managed to get to far before crashes.

John Welch

i definitly want to watch You playing the game ;) it is like a episode of voyager, cool

Kris Nimitz

Lol yea, I remember the Defiant class ship in that......I think there was one maneuver (maybe "evade"?) where it became almost unstoppable. Thanks for the note on the Armada III mod, I might have to check out Sins of Solar Empire.

Jay S

Ah; BotF...I spent MANY hours in that game, working my way up the Federation's research tree so that I could finally build the Defiant-class escort, so I could take on the Borg cube without getting slaughtered. Still go back to it once in a while, mainly to try out stuff like the Ultimate Universe mod. A good semi-modern substitute is the "Star Trek: Armada III" mod for Sins of a Solar Empire.

Yep, I loved that game! I remember eagerly awaiting it to hit the stores. I agree that it felt sort of like an episode of the show. Other TNG-based games I liked were Star Trek Armada (w Patrick Stewart, Michael Dorn, and Denise Crosby doing voiceovers) and the oft-overlooked strategy game Birth of the Federation (many did not care for it, but I really enjoyed it).

Jay S

I loved the game from a couple years earlier, another point and click adventure game, the TOS themed Star Trek 25th Anniversary. With a later version that added the whole voice cast. Graphics may be considered cartoony by some, but it was like a perfect recreation of TOS, right down to different episodes. The sequel Judgment Rites was just as good. And THOSE are on Steam for cheap.

As far as I'm aware, 'A Final Unity' isn't currently available for sale on any digital storefronts, and has essentially become abandonware. I'd love to see Paula play it, but the efforts to get it to play on a modern computer are probably more than Paula would be willing to deal with.

Dan Crucy

For my money, one of the best Star Trek PC games ever is "Star Trek: The Next Generation -- A Final Unity"; it came out on CD-ROM about a year after TNG ended, and was one of the last Trek games made for MS-DOS (the precursor to Windows). Depending on your system, it took some doing to get it up and running (back then you had to manually edit system files to make them compatible with some games), but once it was it was quite an experience. The full regular TNG cast lent their voices (just like Elite Force), and it was a "point-and-click" adventure game where you are trying to uncover the mysteries surrounding an ancient civilization and a device they created that could destroy the galaxy (along with some B-plot action involving Romulans, Ferengi, some alien political intrigue, and a crazy zoo planet). It has a bit of a learning curve, but it's still fun to play through the missions with different characters to get different dialogue and outcomes. More than that, it's probably the closest to a fully interactive version of a TNG episode that you'll ever get. If you can find it (and know how to get DOSBox working), I definitely recommend it! Other great Trek games, besides those already mentioned, are Star Trek: Armada (RTS), Starfleet Academy and its spin-off Klingon Academy (space combat sims), Bridge Commander (also a space combat sim), and Starfleet Command (tactical strategy; based on the "Star Fleet Battles" tabletop game).

Alexander Caldwell

There is a Trek shooter from around the same era with some Dominion content. "Deep Space Nine: The Fallen." You play as Sisko, Worf or Kira, depending on the mission. They got almost the entire cast to reprise their roles, with the exceptions of Avery Brooks and Colm Meany. (Full disclosure, I fell into doing some coding and graphical work on the unofficial free expansion "Convergence," which was otherwise entirely a labor of love by one of the game's level designers, Eric Ruter.)

Ken Quick

Reminded me why I never got into first person shooters! But it was fun, and yes, I think there's a Deep Space Nine game where you fight the Dominion (apparently there's four DS9 games). Def do more of these, and if you can find it and run it, give Star Trek Borg a try, it's literally like an interactive episode. And Star Trek Resurgence just feels like you're IN the Star Trek world, playing both a command officer and a lower decker.

A Paula playalong? Super nice! Wish it was for better reasons, of course. Get well soon, Kat.

Matthew Zeidman

If you wanna play a really good old Star Trek Game, you should try out Star Trek Away Team. One of my fave Trek games. And of course I wish a quick recovery to Kat!
