What could be next?

Patrons!

The time has come! Or at least it almost has… Star Trek: TNG is coming up to its end soon and we’re ready to start planning for a big Sci-fi show to follow next, and we would love for you to be a part of it! We’re excited to expand into something new, but we’re stuck between two choices. We took a look at all of suggestions from everyone for a new show and it’s come down to either:

Battlestar Galactica or Farscape!

Take part in the poll below over the next week or two to help decide what show will be next on the roster!

To all of our lovely Star Trek fans, notice how we didn't say it would be replacing Star Trek... We have a plan to move on to another Star Trek show... But we're gonna keep that tucked in our pockets for a little longer 🤫 (We are not pulling your leg about more Star Trek coming, but also it's not DS9. We don't want y'all to think we're leading you on).

Comments

I get the feeling it wasn't so much the material in DS9 per se, but rather that material being in a Star Trek format. I think Paula prefers her Trek inspirational and and optimistic. Gritty, pessimistic and and morally grey are not what many people want from Star Trek. I know more than a few people who loved BSG and disliked DS9.

John Welch

They have to watch the movie/miniseries before 33.

John Welch

"33" isn't a pilot, it's just the first episode of season 1. If there's anything that could be considered a pilot, it would be the miniseries.

Matthew Baur

I really worry about Paula and Kat watching Battlestar, dont get me wrong, I absolutely love the show and its one of my faves. But if DS9 was too dark and triggering due to its subject matter, Battlerstar will be even more so. There is religious and sexual violence, horrible manipulation and gaslighting, bigotry and extremism, and lots of other subjects that Paula has indicated were no-gos for her and DS9. I worry they will begin the show and have to stop it part way through if it gets too intense.

Emptysea93

I hope if you do Battlestar Galactica you'll do an episode of "Battlestar Galactica 1980"

Stanton

Just want to say that I voted for BSG, but I don't think that the Gals should feel obligated to follow the results of the poll. It's a good tool to gauge the mood of your audience, but it shouldn't be more than that. 33 is, in my opinion, one of the best pilots made so if you watch that and you aren't on board, you might want to seriously think about whether you want to go all in or not. This isn't one of those shows where it has a shaky start, but finds its legs later on. BSG starts strong and lets you know exactly what kind of show it's going to be right out of the gate.

Robert C

I haven’t watched either of these shows so I don’t have an opinion on this question, but I do hope you’ll consider reacting to Star Trek Voyager, since you’re not planning to watch DS9.

Pranav Gulukota

BSG is so good! Cant wait!

Jonny Moonsliver

I voted for BSG because I truly feel it is some of the best sci fi ever produced, but I feel compelled to echo some of the other comments here and point out BSG can be DARK. I mean it is gritty AF. It makes the slight star trek cynicism of DS9 look like rainbows and unicorns. One thing in particular troubles me in recommending this. I hate spoilers but I think some people may be beating around the bush to avoid them here and as an abuse survivor myself I feel the need to add a trigger warning and to point out a major plot point in season 2 involves torture and sexual violence. It is not exploitative but it is there and it hits hard. I say this not to dissuade reaction merely to allow the gals to make an informed choice. I believe there is true value in this series and am prepared to follow the gals journey through it, that's why I voted for it. But if they decide to do Farscape instead I will be just as supportive. Farscape is quality scifi. It combines TOS syle adventure with Dr. WHO weirdness with some great visuals and characterizations.

John Welch

I love BSG but it’s pretty dark in places that a lot of people issues with so I choose Farscape

Angelus-1701

I don’t see Farscape lol I see Stargate sg1 s10

Brett Delbridge

Farscape, youll enjoy it more. galactica is good but farcape just doent get the love it deserves and just has more how you say Flavor to It. Maybe you should react to both of the first eps and decide for yourselves. the poll will be a little misleading i think.

Robert Learmont

I think Farscape fits in better with the style of shows that you've been reacting to overall.

Eytan

BSG is the superior program. Adult in nature, it pulls no punches in its storytelling. If the material in DS9 causes pause, this may not be the show for you.

Mark Chrisco

Farscape for me. It's mix of humour, heart, and action will be right up the Gals' street and even despite the BTS messiness it still (more or less) sticks the landing. While BSG is brilliant right up until an ending so bad I've never been able to gather the will to rewatch any of it.

Peter Nolan

Farscape has my vote. I rewatch it all the time. The characters are so good!

Star Trek Generations then ST First Contact!

Pate

I’m confused about no DS9, since it would follow next chronologically. Hopefully not Picard, since it would be difficult to follow without having seen DS9 and Voyager. Going to vote Farscape and hope for Stargate at some point.

Chris Parker

I voted for BSG, as that's my preference. Although if I was to recommend to the Gals what I think they would enjoy more, I believe it would be Farscape. Both are good series, but they're just different. As it's been stated, Farscape is weird fun while BSG is edgy drama.

Devin

i think you should watch Babylon 5 , the show would blow your mind :) after so many years i can not belive how good it is. But B5 is not in the poll, so i choose BSG.

Kris Nimitz

FARSCAPE!

Adam Brown

One handy thing about BSG is that there is a totally spoiler free mission statement out and around. (Would include a link, but the page containing the statement has got spoilers). The new Galactic did change things up, which is why it could be a fresh-ish break from TNG. Farscape does pack in more weird concepts that makes it like TNG, but it is a change too with it's "entirely" alien setting. Damn, is it too late to split the difference and go with the short running Lexx until I make my mind up....

Funny That

With Ronald D. Moore at the helm, BSG is like the more emotional and spiritual successor to TNG. It also has a lot of relevance to our current cultural panic about identity and AI. I love Farscape, but BSG has my vote.

Jay Fleming

Can you react to season 3 of Star Trek Picard? It's only 10 episodes. The first two seasons are skippable but season 3 was epic.

Monty Magpie

Since DS9 isnt on the menu id go for BSG.

Roy J.

Both of these are great shows, but BSG will stick with you.

Chrono Gamer

Would love it if you did the V mini series from 1983 (V) and 1984 (V: The Final Battle). It could be adapted on here to be viewed as one hour segments, totalling 10 parts.

Dr Q Who

Battlestar all the way. It's very very different from Trek, but imo one of, if not the best, scifi shows of the last 2 decades. So say we all!

LogicSequence

I'm bummed you're not going to do DS9, even folks who weren't fans on the first watch have gone back and seen the value of the show. But I'll be happy with any. Voted Farscape here though.

Alisa Loudner

Gotta go with Battlestar in support of a fellow Portlander Katee Sackhoff.

Larry Viscarra

Both solid choices. I prefer Farscape, but Battlestar Galactica is the better show. Other SciFi-Shows other than Star Trek I wish were on this poll: Stargate SG1

Red Claw

I was hoping for B5, but I would definitely stay onboard if you guys do Farscape. BSG is too dark for my taste, I'd pass.

Jay S

You should consider doing an Orville reaction at some point as well if you haven’t seen it. As the show goes on it’s actually very much along the lines of TNG
