They're watching BSG now, so DS9 would be child's play now.

Troy Convers

It took me several watch throughs to really like DS9 completely, so I understand not doing so

Dan Williams

Such duality in this episode, so good and so bad. And the first time I disagree: I think you should watch Nemesis, I really liked it and thought it a great cry fest.... But if you don't want to cry, I understand.

Dan Williams

nail on the head regarding Picard. it's like, no, they *chose* to update it for "modern TV sensibilities", but they didn't *have* to. it's always so weird to me when people choose to change a unique thing to something else, rather than just make a new thing with the vision you want. let the unique thing stay unique.

uberelder

DS9 and Star Trek: Picard are really worth the time invested. I got very little out of Voyager, but there's a handful of really, really good episodes. Loving Strange New Worlds and most of what I've seen in Discovery, even if it's not perfect. I love watching you go through TNG and DW! Would love to see you do DS9 (even if you do nothing else). And I think you'll find Picard worth the time. I did, anyway.

And did you see how perfectly set up that campfire was? All the stones gathered and laid out in a perfect circle. Just the thing 2 defenseless fugitives would spend hours setting up. Couldnt have been sloppy writing?

Mark Ten

Those guys were so paranoid, they probably felt Starfleet officers wouldn't be stupid enough to have a campfire, except as a trap and probably avoided the area in their search.

Mark Chrisco

Kat's face said it all... but Paula, how do you really feel?

Mark Ten

Two people on the run, with an open campfire burning all night and no one staying up keeping guard? Does the Federation teach survival skills?

Mark Ten

As for Picard S3, or any season, they’ve written it so that you have to have watched Nemesis, DS9, and Voyager to truly understand it. As for movies, the TOS movies, especially Wrath of Khan, Search for Spock, and Voyage Home, which form a type of trilogy, are also good.

Pranav Gulukota

I actually like the other plot. The question of whether only part of a planet can join the Federation is interesting.

Pranav Gulukota

omg, if they had to use double toilets cause they can't separate.

myzeplin

Star Trek Picard is... well, I think you'll be lost if you don't watch DS9, Voyager and all the films, to understand the plot of just S3 and characters from the other seasons. But it's not good. Even the apparently better Season 3 still has so much of what I don't like about new Star Trek. The world of new Star Trek loses the whole vibe of people being respectful towards each other so that everyone can be WAY too sassy and quippy to each others. Some of that kind of dialogue works in some franchises, but it's so weirdly out of place in Trek. Especially when it's not just a character trait of one or two characters, but that ALL characters talk in that character voice. A common defense for a lot of New Star Trek's changes are "Well, they had to update it for modern TV sensibilities." And my answer to that is; "Exactly, I can't stand a lot of modern TV anymore."

Nolan

I recall seeing an interview clip (way back in the 90s) which claimed the reason the writers didn't put P&C together was because Roddenberry did not want main characters in his show to be involved in any LTRs. Even after Roddenberry died they wanted to "stay true" to his overall vision at least for TNG (not necessarily the later spinoff TV series, which he did not conceive of). Don't know whether this explanation is true or not (and not saying I agree with it), but might be why they chose to end the episode this way.

Jay S

If one of them farted and felt relief would the other also feel relief?

myzeplin

There's a blooper from this episode that when they see the Pritt guy high on the ridge and the two of them back up to the boulder Gates accidentally steps on Patrick's foot to which he exclaims, "Ow! My foot!"

Brad Barter

Interesting tidbit I recently learned on TikTok is the shirt Picard wears at the end of the episode was worn by Ensign Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) on Star Trek Voyager. He said they had a shirt that was worn in an episode of TNG and asked if he would wear it, at first he was hesitant but the moment they said it was worn as a dress casual long sleeved shirt by Sir Patrick Stewart as Picard he said he would without hesitation.

Brad Barter

no picard, dont

Mr

I always liked that episode, both storylines were good, never had any problems with any of them. other topic: I hope you will reconsider and watch all 4 movies. But of course the choice is yourse. Star Trek Picard how ever, in the 1 & 2 season is very disappointing for me, but you have to make your own opinion about those seasons, because season 3 is "THE SHIT" it is soooooo good, that i am unable to put it in words, because if i do, i will spoil something by accident and ruin the fun for you. Last words, if you choose to see Picard it will be better for Kat knowing what happens in the films.

Kris Nimitz

This group of friends I believe pulled close together after the death of Tasha. They are close like family I fear the loss of another may tear this family apart. Who do you think is the heart of this family? If you hurt this family's heart, they will definatley break the rules to protect it. Lash out at the others they love.

Henry Fuller

Does Jean luc think and beverly think they'll ruin their friendship if they get together? The captain tryed that before in tapestry when Q gave him that academy do over. Remember he hooked up with his best friend. That did not go well.

Henry Fuller

All I have to say about this episode is Crushard4EVA

LaRoy Murrell

I’ve tried watching Discovery, but just couldn’t get into it. I’ve been avoiding Picard’s first two seasons after hearing the horrible reviews, but I believe I will be tuning in for this season. Strange New Worlds, otoh, has delighted me to no end!! It’s the first Star Trek to get me excited for each new episode since DS9.

Kathy A

None of the TNG movies entirely satisfy, but it isn't worth trashing any of them. The second movie is the best for me, but that is mainly because it gives most of the cast a necessary role to play in the plot, like any good Trek movies should and mainly do. It was controversial then and still is, but if they had just gotten Picard's shirt off (more often) rather than staging elaborate action setup pieces as a substitute then the movies could have put the budget elsewhere and done more to please the audience.

Funny That

Consider this as a season one story, which as bad as the episodes alien characterisation is... does take a bit of effort. Maybe on a rewatch reschedule accordingly. Consider next, that the episode over runs and really should not be rewatched in full. I say with a show that avoids any interpersonal conflict or "conflict"/"adventure" that you are mostly free to fill in the blanks where the show rarely ever goes.

Funny That

Strangely enough, I genuinely enjoy Insurrection a lot more than Generations. Call me weird.

Eric

The alien "B" plot is right out of TOS. I was wondering though how'd you both feel about Picard and Crusher finally knowing about their true feelings for each other. Is it fine that they found out by what I would call a 'nosy third party', or that they found out naturally?

Bruce Bromley

Paula knows where it’s at. Generations and First Contact are the only TNG movies worth watching. While Generations often gets the odd-numbered movie treatment, I always liked it.

Artemis Zeidman

If you both decide to watch Star Trek Picard then you need to see Nemesis at least to understand what is going on.

Kalhoun

I don't like the idea of people just saying "Don't watch that, it's bad." For the TNG movies, yep, the first two, especially First Contact, were good. I wasn't big on the other two, but at least you should watch them all. Just to see what they do with the characters as they go forward. I found Picard S1 and 2 to be sometimes good, sometimes mediocre. Now, if you don't want to react to them, sure. But as a fan, you'll still want to watch them at least privately.

Joe Concepts

Don't worry about this episode. Wait till Picard Season 3.

Kalhoun

Kinda feels like you are trash talking the last 2 movies and you haven't even seen them. You're going solely on other people's opinion. Tongue in cheek maybe, but still. Why you wouldn't want to watch the last few adventures with you favourite crew I'll never understand. I don't even mean on channel but just for yourselves you know. They're not top of the bill movies, but perfectly watchable and you've seen many worse episodes. But to each their own. As to Picard, I think people were hoping on TNG 2 (even though they said they were specifically not going for that) and when it wasn't, it was by definition bad. Fans opinions with franchises like these can be extremely biased and not helpful. For me the show was ok, not great, but still enjoyable. And yes, they have upped the anty in season 3. Even if you watch on your own, don't skip S1 and 2, it will still be worth your time. I mean, would you have wanted to miss season 1 and 2 of TNG?

Pickupthepieces76

I'm so looking forward to that infamously stupid episode.....

Mike

What came to mind for me this viewing is I wish the Picard-Crusher scenes were in a better episode, as their quality really felt out of place with everything else that was happening.

Mike

"You know what's remarkable? Is how much England looks in no way like Southern California."

Joe Concepts

The biggest complaint I've heard of what some people have taken to call NuTrek is that it's too woke, especially ST: Discovery, which is ludicrous. I've watched some of the first two seasons of Picard and enjoyed them. The third season is like the 8th season of TNG. The one I really like is Strange New Worlds. It takes place on the Enterprise before Kirk. Whether you see them for the channel or on your own, they are all worth a watch.

Bruce Bromley

I'm with you. It's a very emotion packed episode (tierd up multiple times). It's very frustrating that the show had so many restrictions they do not can do. I read that the network say, that they can't do any story that influence the next episode, that the viewer can randomly watch the show without the feeling to miss something and watch an other show insted. double episodes are rare at TNG. I heard it too, that paula said that you watch insuration and nemesis. I think that kat would have massive problems with a violent part of nemesis. // I try to see every star trek movie (13) and every episode (877+) once a year in order and never skip an episode. I can not understand the fans that they say skip the first 2 seasons of picard. every episode is importend (for me) the not so good episodes, too. maybe I try to not judge the episodes, because I was judged and mobbed as a kid to often.
