Tapestry, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S6ep15

Comments

I'm in the minority, but I'm glad you're not bothering with DS9. I've watched DS9 many times over the years, and while I can appreciate the obvious effort that went into making it, I never found it a fraction as entertaining, charming or eminently watchable as TNG.

Visible Pixels

I love this episode, definitely one of my favourites. The relationship between Picard and Q is always mesmerising, and the message is so great. I sometimes struggle with that same regret over the past, and it's so important to recognise that even the worst parts are part of the person you are today.

Sephsekla

LOOOOOL. Was channel hopping and saw a TNG rerun was on, no idea what. Waited for after the commercials and lo and behold, it was Tapestry.

Nolan

Oh, the above comment reminded me that you should watch (maybe even react to?) once you're done with the show are some of the panels where the entire cast show up. I've gone down the YT rabbit hole more than once just watching them all interact and joke with one another - it heals my heart seeing that they're all so close and genuinely love each other!

Ben Chan

By the way, I hope you will consider reacting to the Honest Trailer for Star Trek TNG once you have finished all 7 seasons - it's excellent.

Jack

This episode always hits me when I see him in the blue uniform. It always makes me question myself about what I’m doing with my life. As for Q yes I think it really is him giving Jean Luc a second chance and I assume he saves his life back in the present in sickbay. Something that could have been really interesting is if the other 2 officers had been Jack and Beverley. And and if the choice had somehow changed the course of their lives.

Brett Delbridge

This episode is in my top 3 for TNG, possibly my #1, just for the theme and lesson of it, not to say that everyone should take risks, but that playing it too safe may get you into something so comfortable you don't grow as a person.

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

Among so many things I love about this episode, I really like the final ambiguity of whether it was really Q, or just a dream— or maybe an encounter with Something in the real afterlife that only appeared as Q because that's how Picard imagined it. I don't *want* a definitive answer to that question, it's better left to the imagination of the viewer. And then there's the substance of the events themselves, which I could write a dissertation-length commentary about, but I'll just stick to saying I loved it.

Keith Goodnight

This is probably the best use of Q in this series. Using his powers to teach the crew, or in this case Picard, lessons rather than just being a trickster. What a great episode.

Verteron

While the "new" Trek has lost all of what made Star Trek...STAR TREK, I do want to mention ONE wonderful jewel we got out of it. We learn what became of Ens. Marta "Marty" Batanides. One of the new characters mentions that his former captain served under her.

Sal Sanchez

I like the full range of emotions from Kat! Definitely an underrated episode. Makes you think about your own life and what changing regrets would do.

Brian Hakala

Well, he does try... but clearly Picard is his favorite.

Nolan

Speaking as one who sees himself as not even the man Picard was in that alternate timeline, I always have an interesting view of this episode. Cause I do have regrets, but I also play it safe sooo much. There's such potential in every thread, but this is the picture I have. It's less about fixing the past, than it is about trying, struggling to move forward and maybe not be so safe and cautious. Hello anxiety! I'm still not sure if this is Q or not... but I like to think that if it is, Q did this because he realized how important Picard was to him after he paid a visit to DS9 and its crew, which would've happened by this point. And yes, technically that means that Q made THREE appearances in one Trek year.

Nolan

It's so beautiful!!

Time Lord

Eeee! Can't wait for y'all to see it!

Time Lord

I love this episode. It is one of my all time favourites. I can understand why some people didn't like the 'idea' of shaming people in lower ranks later in their life or doing 'menial' jobs however, I don't see the writer's as having done that. The point is that Picard's character was not someone who would personally be content with that. It doesn't mean that there are not people who are content. Lt. Picard was 'bereft of passion and imagination'. He saw himself as a 'dreary man in a tedious job' by the standards of Captain Picard because he knows he is capable of so much more. In short, Picard is making a criticism on himself and not others. He is not judging other officers who are in their mid 60s (Picard's age). He doesn't even mention other people. He is evaluating himself.

Peter

Honestly loved Kat's laugh at the end instantly made me bring to mind Picard's in the episode. Like Paula, this does remind of Quantum Leap, with Picard as Sam and Q as Al. It would have been great that when he looked in the mirror there would have been "Johnny" Picard looking back.

Bruce Bromley

Yeah and Patrick Stewart was 53....ewww.

Mike

I just don't like the message of this episode. Asside from the statistical fact that the vast majority of people live out thier lives with menial jobs and never get noticed, so that kind of feels like shaming the underclass, but that doesn't seam like a problem people in the future of Star Trek would have given past episodes.

Mike

It's a beautiful story. Gets you right here🤛

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

This is a great one. For alternate Picard life stories, I actually like it more than The Inner Light. It might be my favorite season 6 episode, though there is a Riker-centric one coming up later that I also like quite a bit. My only hesitation is that I do wonder if Picard would really want to change his past. I get that his life was on the line, but I think it would be entirely in character for him to accept his fate and not try to change the man he was/is even with all of Q's promises. Of course, that doesn't make much of a story, so I get it. Also, I think that Kat nails it when describing Q and Picard's relationship. I don't think there's another human that Q would enjoy tormenting nearly as much.

R. Chang

I love this episode. It is probably one of my top 5 .

Kevin Martin

I like how well they handled that scene with Riker and Troi. They were perfectly nice, and answered him honestly when he pushed them. And interesting to suggest Troi may know some of the crew better than the other officers. Also interesting because that scene reminds me of some elements from one of the best Season 7 episodes. Not to mention the later series of the same name...

Joe Concepts

I thought about that. I think you can make the argument that it's a job that he would find tedious, not that it's inherently horrible or something. Like, there are plenty of jobs that strike me as extremely unappealing, but I know people that are thriving in them. Similarly, I like my job, but I know that a lot of people would hate it.

R. Chang

Great episode. I remember the writers saying they wanted to do a second Q story to make up for not having one in the 5th season. My only complaint is the rather demeaning attitude Picard has at being a lowly Lt. It makes you wonder 🤔 what he thinks of the many crew members who did not rise to command but are respected and content in their chosen fields. I know it's about him but the dialogue could have been a bit less condescending.

Mark Chrisco

I love that last scene with Riker! It’s such a contrast to how their relationship began and shows how close Will and Jean-Luc have become.

Kathy A

Crazy the actress that played Marta was just 17 at the time.

Nick

Can’t wait to watch later. Kat, now you know why I got so excited when you chose the lieutenant junior grade pips for your uniform. Even though you hadn’t seen this episode yet, it felt like a reference to it. Most days, I feel like Lt. Picard. I spent so much of my life letting my anxiety hold me back and taking the safe path, the number of experiences, friendships and opportunities I let slip by is incalculable. All I can do now is focus on the doors that are still open to me and not dwell on the ones that are shut. It’s never too late to work toward the life you want to live.

Artemis Zeidman

Picard in the blue uniform... that was WEIIIRRRRD.

Firefly24601

same :)

Emanuel

Excellent episode that explores Picards life, thanks for a great reaction. I am really looking forward to the next episode's reaction from you.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

One of the best episodes of the season.

So excited for this - it’s literally my favourite episode; I’ve become a patron specially for the full reaction!
