Nice to see them keeping some continuity with both the flute from "The Inner Light" but also in that shot, the Mintakan tapestry Picard was gifted by those proto-Vulcans that mistook him for a god way back in S3's "Who Watches the Watchers" draped over his chair in the background. I think Patrick Stewart has said "Shane" is his favorite film, so of course it got a reference here. And it evidentally still is, given its prominant feature in the X-Men film "Logan" I reckon this was a pretty fun episode. Also interesting is its placement here, because a western town on the old West frontier is exactly how the producers envisioned DS9 to be, maybe it was a soft attempt to acclimate viewers for that show which was only a month away?
