I just re-watched Star Trek Generations (No Spoilers!), and I'm pretty sure if Kat watches this movie after the entire TNG series, she will lose her mind.

Brandon Braga went on to be one of the creators of Star Trek Voyager and included Barclay in several memorable Voyager episodes.

Todd Miller

I really love my full name Katrina but Kat sings a special tune!! I always introduce myself as Katrina but overtime I love when people call me Kat :) - Kat! (hahaha)

Time Lord

fun episode

DarkAshtar

In his recurring appearances they do slowly develop Barclay. I'll avoid spoilers beyond that he does appear more times, and sometimes the plot isn't actually all about his problems.

Joe Concepts

Heisenberg compensators are basically a very nerdy inside joke. While I don't know any of the details the real-life "Heisenberg uncertainty principle", it is a scientific principle that has been cited by some in the past as the reason why a transporter couldn't work in reality. So, the writers invented "Heisenberg Compensators" to make the transporters work.

Joe Concepts

I honestly forgot about the plot twist at the end of the crew members.

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

We often see Barclay’s interactions with Troi in the context of therapy, but I wonder what role, if any, Dr. Crusher plays in treating his chronic anxiety. While Barclay’s crewmates are definitely empathetic (at least at this point in the series), anxiety or fear rising to that level of debilitation isn’t just something someone can white-knuckle through. Telling someone to just face their fears and do what they need to do isn’t particularly helpful advice (especially if we interpret Barclay as a neurodivergent character, who has probably been told all his life to just “get over” things that cause him anxiety). BTW, question for Kat; do you prefer Kat or Katrina (or have no preference)? I’ve been defaulting to Katrina all this time.

Matthew Zeidman

O'Brien: "Don't worry, I can hold him together." 'Hear me [Barclay]? Hold together'.

David Brown

Validation. That's what I love about his episode. Here is a character who has many strengths (gives ideas that even Geordie does not think of), but also many weaknesses. When a weakness comes up, they help him deal with it, help him to develop from it, and validate any concerns he may have with something going on. Even with his weaknesses, they still treat him as a 'real person', because he is.

Matthew Berry

Just keep that conversation about spiders between Barclay and O'Brien in the back of your mind.

Brendan Falvy

Spoiler alert.

Chris Neumann

Yep, they're gearing Chief O'brien up for his transfer soon. I did not remember the mention of the Cardassians here either. Nor did I remember that VERY crispy engineer. The one things I remember getting some attention when the fandom was more technical detail focused was the "Heisenberg Compensators" mostly everyone going WTF are those?

Nolan

I really like how supportive but also very professional they all act. You really do feel like they’re factoring in Barclay’s personality and recognizing he needs a little back up. Even Riker’s little “glad you could join us” is significant. And so great to avoid the annoying TV trope that people are very willing to assume a character went crazy or the stress made them see things. Picard believes Barclays when he says he’s serious.

Joe Concepts

Barclay pulls a person out of the transporter. And, for his next trick? 🤣

Peter

Barkley episodes carry on in Voyger aswell, worh checking out.

ian webster

I kinda want them to react to the Twilight Zone now. We need to clone them so they can react to more things.

Dan Crucy

Oh. Huh. Yes I did. They're treated like one by my email, but there are four separate 'reply' like copies in it.

Arek Schneyer

I love this episode!

Arek Schneyer

Did anyone else get four separate emails from Patreon notifying them about this video?

Dan Crucy

I kinda want a Frasier reaction between them now, but I know it won’t happen.

Andrew Hogan

If that was done intentionally, then bravo to the writers for that.

Andrew Hogan

The pale question is a good catch. I’m sure there’s some scientific mumbo jumbo you could come up with to explain it.

Andrew Hogan

Can Jordi's visor tell when someone is a little pale? Of course that pillow is comfortable! Its stuffed with baby Tribbles.

Mark Ten

I remember this episode but I had totally forgotten about the surprise ending so I got to be surprised all over again. This is an excellent representation of general anxiety. So much of Barclay's behavior in this episode I totally identify with.

Jarrod Wild

On top of everything else Barclay's dealing with in this episode, it's gotta be really rough to be a hypochondriac who also has a fear of being perceived as a hypochondriac.

Keith Goodnight

A Chief Petty Officer is a non commissioned officer both in many current navies here on Earth and in Starfleet. That means that technically even ensigns can order them around. They tend to have more experience than junior officers though, usually in technical areas, and tend to act as mentors to young, inexperienced officers. Miles actually prefers it this way as he's therefore not expected to attend receptions, fancy dinner parties, and the like.

Henchman Twenty1

An episode so good, it was uploaded four times

Andrew Hogan

Yes his father said he could recognize a fellow Chief Petty Officer which he himself used to be. They also wanted to firmly establish and explore more of O'Brien's character before his upcoming character switch to the new show which would launch mid season of season 6 TNG. They also would later start creating new uniform rank insignias not only for him but for the Maquis crew of Voyager. So for a time his rank will look a little off until then.

Brad Barter

So fun fact. They've actually been calling O'Brien "Chief" since the third season but yes they did change his pips officially in this episode.

Jonathan Emery

They didn't really "demote" O'Brien. He was established as enlisted as far back as the episode "Family" where Worf's foster father somehow recognized him as such, even though he had two full pips (the same as Worf) and despite Riker addressing him as "Lieutenant" in a season 2 episode. (O'Brien's history is notoriously inconsistent).

Neil McRae

Barclay: "Spiders, ... they've never bothered me." I never noticed this foreshadowing until now. ;) ... as well as the renewed Cardassian threat
