Watching this show afresh with you, has made me appreciate it much more. My difficulties with this era are with upcoming storylines rather than this season

Martyn Hill

I'm not just a fan of this episode, and am not inclined to watch it three more times in order to like it (!) Every major character point seemed predictable. However, love Fam, love Jodie. However fair point, this show and they've in being able to change style and approach regularly to keep it fresh.

I just wanna say that Jodie Whittaker is such a brilliant actor. She’s so good at subtle acting & expressions. She’s just amazing!

The Adopted Whovian

Here are my 50 cent on why people don't like Chibnall era Who. I think the most influx of people watching New Who came during Matt Smith run as the Doctor. At that time Moffat was showrunner. People started complaining already when Capaldi was the Doctor. They probably expected the Doctor being more similar to Matt Smith. And then Chibnall took over as showrunner. And in my opinion Chibnalls era of Who is more similar to Russel T. Davis, than Moffat. So those people, who liked Moffats approach at running the show weren't happy with the storytelling of Chibnall, which is very different.

Red Claw

I was under the impression that when the planets came back, so did all the people on the planet. They were all put in stasis, after all. I could very well be wrong though.

Firefly24601

The growth of Graham and Ryan is the season plot and it's very well done.

"Everybody lived!" Except for the 5 planets of (maybe) 7 billion people each. I do like this episode, except for the reality bending nigh omnipotent twosome that... exist apparently? *shrug* Still, enjoyable episode. Chibnall's writing on Who is... weird. He was the primary writer for Broadchurch season 1 which was a huge story broken into episodes, but he's all about the monster of the week stand-alone one-shots when he does Who. Then when he does get to a series long plot it's... Flux. Ugh. I have fun as long as y'alls have fun :)

Bill

For me, Battle is the weakest episode of Chibnall/Whittaker's first series. I don't feel there's much build up to what happens here. I don't want a Moffat-esque mystery box thing but just maybe some more nods along the way to this finale might have helped it feel a little more satisfying. I think series 12 is actually a big improvement over series 11 for the most part so bring it on!

Aaron Funnell

As a fan of this era it was really refreshing to see such an understanding, kind expression of an opinion amongst so many that are expressed in very mean spirited ways. It made me smile.

My initial reaction to this episode way back when was "What????" And then my feelings were influenced by the negative vibrations spread by the anti-Chibs. But this time through (four? five?) watching them all so close together I can see all the little arc bits so much more clearly, I can feel all the character development that's been passed through the Fam over the season- I can appreciate Yas and the Doctor shipping. Was it always there, or are we just now seeing things that were not originally intended? Who knows? But once you see it, you can't unsee it. The growth of the relationship between Graham and Ryan is much clearer. And I even got into the plot aspects of Tim Shaw hijacking the Ux's faith and the philosophical implications of that. There were threads all through this season (and more to be revealed). Chibnall just didn't use as big a sledgehammer as his predecessors did. Why should he? Everybody's going to watch the episodes more than once and probably binge them more than once. Leave the little nuggets buried in there for those repeats.

Bob Hughes

In the Doctor Who Magazine Chris Chibnall said that this was his least favourite episode that he had written due to the fact that he didn’t have time to do multiple drafts of this. The episode had to be made from a first draft script due to production issues and running out of time. So for a first draft it’s not that bad of a story. When Series 11 first aired I wasn’t the hugest fan. But after rewatching I really like it now, and Jodie is my favourite Doctor. I’m really looking forward to your Series 12 and Series 13 reactions!

The Adopted Whovian

Thanks for the shoutout, wow! I actually love this episode. The way it not only concludes Ryan and Graham's arc but acts as wonderful foreshadowing for future series is amazing!
