Personally, I think that they might like Voyager, given how much they liked earlier TNG. Voyager was so much a continuation of TNG that they actually continued the production numbers from TNG. Sure, that's not what the premise was supposed to be, but it makes a lot more sense if you see it as just TNG but in the ____.

Bluefox

I mean, "the Doctor" is in Star Trek... (But I won't reveal how.)

Bluefox

Have you ever seen the 1989 movie “Arena?” Some good pre-DS9 appearances by Alaimo and Armin Shimmerman.

Matthew Zeidman

Paula is so full of joy every time there’s a big reveal. I liked Katrina’s low-key annoyance at Mark Twain’s eavesdropping on Guinan and Data.

Matthew Zeidman

Yup. Marc Alaimo has a very distinctive voice.

Henchman Twenty1

I didn't realize until recently that DS9 had not started before this episode. As such, I believed until recently that the actor's appearance was suppose to be a cute crossover-non-crossover cameo, ha!

I100% support a Duet watch. However, I would expand it into a three-ep watch similar to what they do with TOS. They should watch the 2-part premier and *then* Duet. It's the best series premier in the franchise; it excellently introduces the series, characters, antagonists, conflict (inlcluding everything at play in Duet), and has the best summation of Trek in it's baseball speech, while also being a great episode in it's own right.

JXTN

I think I realized officially watching part 2 hahah - Kat

Time Lord

I wish that wasn't how Farscape ended it's 4th and final season showing to be continued but it was and to try to cap it off with the abysmal Peacekeeper Wars made it that much worse.

Brad Barter

Honestly, given what we know of Kat, I'd not be surprised if the pilot didn't hook her in right away.

Nolan

Duet is a stand out episode. Some of the most chilling speeches made by that certain character.

Nick

OMG after all these years I just noticed the French speaking poker player is Gul Dukat! DUKAT!

Nick

Interesting choice to make Riker be the most emotional over potentially losing Data. Though Geordi wouldn't as likely act so upset when talking to Picard about it.

Joe Concepts

Yes, I was just thinking how great it would be to see Kat react to Duet. DS9 took a couple seasons to really hit its stride, but that ep in the first season is among the best of any Trek franchise.

Raja

I recently learned that Jerry Hardin who plays Clemmons is the father of Melora Hardin, AKA Jan from the The Office!

Raja

I'm going to miss Data. The decision to kill him off in the first episode of season 6 and then never show him again really hurt the rest of the show.

Dan Crucy

And that was the last episode of TNG. It was a weird cliffhanger to end the series on and they never revisited it, just went into the movies. Oh well. 😂😂

Bill

If the Gals are still on the fence about DS9 I would like for us to try and get them to watch just one episode from season 1 and then consider to do that show or not, which I feel is the best of the franchise, hands down. The episode would be number 18 of season 1, "Duet". Not only is it one of the most powerful episodes of that show, but also maybe of the whole franchise, and definitely one of the best performances by a guest star, in my opinion. It is also a very strong character development episode for a character that I think Kat would really like, who is probably one of the strongest female leads in the franchise. It's worth a thought anyway. I'm not on Discord, so maybe other peeps could bring this proposal up there and see if they'll at least give it a try. As Paula has seen that show maybe she could revisit that episode and decide if she should show it to Kat or not.

Henchman Twenty1

I'm guessing it was not a coincidence that they chose Samuel Clemens as the historical figure who is encountered as he has written a few stories involving time travel with "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" probably being the most well know. I have a couple of other remarks on this but I'll save them for part two.

Henchman Twenty1

I'll bet the alien that ingests the life energy of the 49er gets drunk and starts staggering around asking for change. Data telling people that he is from France is a nod to the Coneheads, a recurring skit on SNL about an alien couple with cone-shaped heads who are stranded on Earth and trying to blend in. When asked where they were from they'd say, "France". Coneheads was made into a movie in 1993 starring Dan Ackroyd, Jane Curtain and a bunch of SNL alumni in supporting roles. Very funny. You should watch if you've never seen it.

Henchman Twenty1

That scene in the elevator where Riker expresses his fondness for Data in Android style and Data to them in human style hits you right in the feels doesn't it. Great ending to the season. Looking forward to the TOS eps and S6 after that.

Pickupthepieces76

this was always a favorite episode for me when I was younger. watching it on an old, low-res copy from somewhere... I was as fascinated by the 1800's back then, the industrial revolution and frontier... think I'd hate the idea of living back then now. But this episode is also pretty low-key and I don't think it has as much depth as other season endings. very mcuh a lot of setup. But there are some fun vignettes throughout too that catch my mind. I have ALWAYS remembered the 49er since the first time I saw it. Interestingly, a Dr.Who Star Trek TNG crossover isn't very likely, as Classic Who ended in December 1989 and didn't come back until March 2005, while this production era of Trek began with TNG in September 1987 and ran until Enterprise's finale in May 2005. So they quite effectively missed each other. I get the feeling I'll be disappointed when S6 starts rolling and DS9 doesn't show up. Oh well.

Nolan

Hearing Kat talk about "that guy" and then nothing mentioned in their after-comments, I'm wondering did the Gals not realize that was Mark Twain? (I don't think it's a spoiler to say that, I think we were supposed to know it from his costume/makeup and being addressed as Mr Clemens.)

Keith Goodnight

I'm glad you enjoyed this season. I am just wondering if Katrina has realized yet that her favorite season so far is the first season we've had without Q. Can't wait to see what you think of the next two seasons.

Antonio

Interesting. I never got into the X-Files but good to know.

Brad Barter

Also Deep Throat in the X-Files!

Eric

Marc Alaimo was also one of the Anticans arguing with Tasha and Riker about using their laser blades to dispatch the live animals they consume but because of their ongoing dispute with the Selay (snake heads) they were confiscated in the first season episode Lonely Among Us where Picard beams himself and an entity they picked up into an energy cloud. Also the actor who played Samuel L. Clemmons aka Mark Twain was also in a first season episode When the Bough Breaks as Radue who kept arguing they needed some of the Enterprise children and snapped them up as well as Wesley from them. - Jerry Hardin

Brad Barter

Oh boy… I’ve been waiting for this one. 👀
