It's always fun when Brent Spiner gets to play a different kind of role and show some emotion. This is an overall average TNG episode, but I liked the performances from Sirtis and Spiner especially.

Chrono Gamer

It's literally part of the plot that they can't handle pain. Riker has a broken bone, which hurts immensely. So they don't infect him And they use that to figure out that, if they cause harmless pain, they can force them to leave. And that is not a fair assessment of the technobabble. The reversing the polarity was just making the force fields work backwards. And the reason they couldn't stop them was simply that they were always a step ahead of them, locking them out. Between Data and O'Brien's knowledge and Troi's abilities to predict their actions and read their emotions, this makes a lot ton of sense.

Bluefox

I'm familiar with it. I've been banned on YT for tearing into Trump supporters a bit too much, you can create another account.

Hey, I don't know if you'll see this reply but I think I found a reactor that would likely enjoy The Venture Bros. and be able to follow along. His YouTube channel is 'Spaz Boys Comedy' and on here it's 'THE GOOSH!'. He just recently started on Archer and loves it. I've been banned on YouTube so I can't post comments and I'm broke so I can't afford another Patreon sub. Maybe you could check out his channel and suggest the show? I think he'd be perfect. if he hasn't seen it already.

Ah, yes. Separated electric souls that have no problem taking over a Klingon, a Betazoid and an Android, but not Riker, because he's ... hurt. :) Some episodes simply need their viewers to "oooo...kay?" That in the same episode we get a "Damn it, I could have totally overturned their actions if it weren't that they reversed polarity on a technobabble-a-thingie!!" kinda takes me out of it at every turn. It seems like a VERY lazily written episode.

Patrick Armbruster

To be fair, it wasn't clear whether their imprisonment was a forever thing. Although they were put their 5 centuries prior, their species' lifespan may be for millennia so maybe there was some pathway to serving out their term(?) On that basis, destroying them may have violated the prime directive.

Raja

I know he never would have done so but Picard should have destroyed those things once they left Troi, Data and Keiko. It would have ended their tormented curse for good and made sure they didn't try this crap on some other unwitting hosts. If they did ever get back to their homeworld they'd likely wreak untold death and destruction in their vengeance.

Wait 'til DS9 payback time [Sinister laugh]

Well, it was the 90's prime time for Starbucks and the rest I was always bummed they never did a Quark logo in the Starbucks style. Being old school, I was more of a Romulan Ale man, myself. 🖖

Bruce Bromley

By Season 5 they had actually had her doing her job as Councilor more. It seemed when she was on the Bridge, her input was shot down as much as Word's. Or met with the response of, "Yes, I felt that as well." You wonder why she spent so much time there on the Bridge.

Bruce Bromley

I haven't broken my tailbone but I did bruise it, and man it hurt. I was in HS and actually got special permission to use the elevator at school for a couple weeks.

DarkAshtar

Paula wasn't kidding about Raktajino being popular. They never shut up about it on DS9.

Mike

I'm surprised y'all didn't talk about the similarities to the Charles Dickens episode of Doctor Who in the Eccleston era. The plot is remarkably similar.

Shelly

Besides seeing the entity leave O'Brien, I suspect another thing that helped Keiko deal with what happened was the simple that that, unlike us, she lives in a world where this sort of thing happens with some regularity. Growing up in Star Trek's 24th century, you'd pretty much have to learn to accept possession (if not by demons, then definitely by aliens) as a common risk.

Keith Goodnight

P: "Any life signs?" D: "Negative." P: "Anything else?" D: "The signal matches a lost ship from over 200 years ago." P: "Welp, solved that. Moving on." *episode ends*

Bill

Chief O'Brien on DS9 became their standard whipping boy character. He had so much happen to him alone it's not even funny.

Brad Barter

OK, had a bet with myself on what kind of opening we were getting today, Snacks? Cats? Or Songs? I had Snacks and we got Cats. Dang it, so unpredictable

Mark Ten

Just a nice, average episode here. A little less of the trauma conga that S5 can be. And just another of the variety of stories Trek can tell, but while maintaining the Trekkian tone. Sad to see that's gone out the window in more recent times, but I digress.

Nolan

This episode is why I went ahead and reupped for this month, even though I'm behind and have a lot to catch up on (and am facing a bit of a money crunch). I consider this a mostly silly episode, and wanted to see their reactions.

Bluefox

This episode marks the first appearance of an actress who would go on to a long term association with the whole Trek franchise. Patricia Tallman plays the redheaded security guard scene with Worf. She would go on to have multiple stand in, speaking and non speaking roles throughout three Trek series and the movie "Generations" as well as doing extensive stunt work for the franchise. She was also a recurring guest star on "Babylon 5" and the star of the 1990 remake of "Night of the living dead".

John Welch

It's episodes like this and another one on season 6 that show how good of an actress Marina Sirtis is, it's just most of the time the writers do her no justice with Trio.

Mike

I sometimes think that TNG's episode order is kind of odd. Earlier we had two shows in a row focusing on a kid and possible impending destruction of the Enterprise and last episode everyone lost their memory and this one a few get possessed. I'll bet Troi holds the record of any Trek character for getting possessed, inhabited, controlled or otherwise manipulated. Marina did a good job with it though. I think it's interesting how some actors like being able to break away from a regular character on occasion and do something a bit different for a change while others feel uncomfortable being out of their normal character role.
