I waited to watch this till the finale, I've seen it before so it's not hard to wait.

"I caught ALL the signs this time, Katrina!" I'm so sorry, Paula ...

I was at L.I. Who a few years ago where Rachel Talalay was a guest shortly after this episode went out (it was the weekend that the Jodie Whittaker costume reveal went out), and she indicated that when the BBC announced that Simm was going to be in the episode and ruined the cliffhanger, Moffat was tip-the-desk-over, throw-the-phone FURIOUS. That was a tough week's wait.

Well, this means war. And what about Cornish saffron buns, then? My Cornish-ish mum made them and we ate them without jam. And Sticky-toffee pudding: no jam there, just loads of artery-blocking clotted cream (which is how it probably got its name).

Chris Padwick

Watching this reaction is the first time I've seen the episode since it was released, so I don't remember if I picked up on the Cybermen before it became as obvious as it was when Bill was about to be converted. I definitely didn't get the reference to Mondas, because I really only saw a few episodes of the original run as a kid on multi-year delay repeats, and wasn't aware of there being different Doctors. But like you guys, was completely blown away by the return and reveal of John SImm at the end there. Thankfully was not spoiled on that! But watching it now and knowing where things were/are headed, its really cool spotting little things along the way that are potential clues without actually giving it away. I recognise that opinions differ about various elements of the show amongst the fandom, so however you rate the various participants in the show at this point both in front of and behind the cameras, I think this would have to be one of the most well executed reveals in the series. Clues for people to potentially pick up on, but layered in the background behind the "main" storyline of the episode. Obfuscating the Master's creepiness behind the unsettling situation. Having the mystery behind what turns out to be the Cybermen overshadowing the potential mystery of the Master's disguise. But all done in a legitimate way so that when the reveal comes, you either pat yourself on the back for putting the pieces together or after a moment of shock being able to look back and see that it doesn't actually come out of absolutely nowhere.

We had Thundercats in the last series, why not Silverhawks in this one? :)

Firefly24601

Head of silver, nerves of steel… (Silver...Bill!) Partly metal, partly real… (Silver...Bill!) Standing in the hallway of the spaceship in its flight, SilverBill, a horror in the night!

If you want ALL the living masters together (TV and Big Finish) you have to listen to Big Finishs "Masterful" its epic and fun. So many references and meta Jokes. Specally Missy and the War-Master are on point.

Thomas88

On BBC europe, the VERY FIRST image shown of series 10, by the BBC was John Simm and everyone was like "WTF are you doing?? Dont spoil the best part" so its so cool seeing people beeing surprised by that.

Thomas88

Yes... but between seasons or breaks, when you're desperate for any new content...well, couldnt help peeking

Mark Ten

It's very important that 1) you eat it on a scone; and 2) you put the jam on the scone first, and THEN the clotted cream. If you do it the other way around, eternal damnation is an insufficient punishment!

Ian Smith

intresting about the leak, I was free of spoiler in the US, sometimes there's benefits to having your head down and not plugged into series news :D

hrcaffee

Yeah, the goatee is such a great callback to Delgado and Ainley! <3

Nicole Mazza

I still want to try clotted cream at some point -- it sounds so yummy! Whenever I think of clotted cream, I think of David Tennant and Olivia Colman doing a Chili Jam Challenge with clotted cream and jam for charity several years back. You can see the vid here -- they are HILARIOUS together: http://davidtennantontwitter.blogspot.com/2016/10/david-tennant-and-olivia-colman-stand.html

I love the title of this episode, from the opening line of the poem "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell. I remember reading it in college and felt that Pink Floyd must have been influenced by it when they wrote "Time". It was so nice to see that Moffett at least had read it. And it was very nice to see Paula surprised by The Master reveal. I'm afraid I had been spoiled by watching YouTube compilations of the Master when I first startled to get into Doctor Who, so I am glad no one spoiled the episode for you! :-)

Robert Elessar

Moffat often irritated me as a storyteller - but when he was good,he was undeniably very VERY good; and, imo, this episode is one of his best, and an honest-to-goodness classic.

Ian Smith

SO EXCITED TO WATCH THIS REACTION! This is such a fave of mine! Rachel Talalay's horror directing chops work SO WELL in this story and it's truly SO CREEPY to watch. Plus, I love all the science-y stuff with time on the ship. Sadly, John Simm being in it was revealed/spoiled by the BBC before it aired, so I was not as surprised to see him as I 'should' have been. But I'll admit, I didn't recognize him in disguise (even if disguises is such a Classic Who Master sort of thing) and so he surprised me a bit at the end, at least! ANYWAY, onto watching!

Nicole Mazza

Appropriate for this episode that Mr. Huffle feels pain.... "Pain, pain, pain...."

Firefly24601

Such reactions. Much Master. Very time.

Bill

Finally here. Paula, loved your reaction lol. These Rachel Talalay episodes were so eerie and amazing 😁

Sufyaan Kazi

I love how twisted this twist episode is! Its existential horror that manages to play with time dilation, uses both the Master and Missy, AND makes the goofiest incarnation of the Cybermen scary!! How can you not give Moffat credit for episodes like this?? You can say his writing is convoluted but this is Moffat at the end of 6 seasons of show running! And thats if you don't count the many episodes he wrote in the Davies tenure!! For sheer imagination and style this episode deserves applause. For managing to maintain the quality and longevity of the show after 11 years working on it is hugely impressive

George Baxter

Some how at the time I missed the news about John Simms coming back so luckily I didn't get spoiled. I love this story. Can't wait for the next few reactions.

Jade Ellis

And I thought waiting for the Series 9 soundtrack took forever. Not a patch on Series 10!

Firefly24601

It wont be OK, in fact it gets worse (and I think Peter looks good with longer hair). Did you catch when The Doctor split his sonic in half to use it as a marker? I loved that moment when Paula said that Razor looked familiar - Kat looked at the camera and cut right through to my heart! Peter wanted to face off with The Mondasian Cybermen since they were the ones he knew from the show as a kid. BBC leaked John Simms in the series trailer so everyone knew he was coming at some point before the first episode for the seasson aired, we just didnt know when! I didnt catch on it was him until he started talking to Missy then I remembered he was coming back.

Mark Ten

Spoilers/Leaks like that is why I don't follow news regarding a show or watch any trailers of something I'm already planning on watching!

Red Claw

I got spoiled by the BBC about John Sims before seeing this episode the first time— which I really wished had not happened. Fun note: John Sims had wanted to wear the Master's trademark goatee when he first played the character opposite the Tenth Doctor, but for whatever reason the producers at the time didn't want him to. So this time, when they contacted him to reprise the character, he grew in his beard on his own and just showed up for filming with it, so they'd have to say yes. (Most likely, given Moffat's different style than RTD, he would have gotten an enthusiastic "yes" anyway.)

Keith Goodnight

I had heard John Simm was coming back for this, but was so engrossed in the episode I forgot about it and didn't realize what was happening until right before he took the mask off. Also, I forget where I heard this, but apparently the origin of his Prime Minister persona's name, "Saxon" is an old English term for knife ... and here he's Mr. Razor lol.

Trav

it really is a sin that the music for this season hasn't been released yet

MrEvers

Hey Henry. I'll be moving to England sometime early or mid next year, so I can send you all kinds of cool stuff once I get myself settled. I've got a job waiting for me over there. 😁

Amy Chlebus

Hello Kat and Paula!! I'm so glad you like the socks and the shirt Paula. Wear them in good health ❤️😁 I absolutely love the last 3 episodes of this series! Let's have a party!

Amy Chlebus

So, funny story about the John Simm reveal: I actually watched this for the first time only a couple of year ago, and so didn't get spoiled by the BBC trailer. HOWEVER, whilst watching the episode I felt like I knew the voice of "Mr Razor". I knew it was someone I knew under makeup and prosthetics so I paused the episode and looked it up on IMDB. Yep. I SPOILED MYSELF! Because that's how dumb I am.

LatePaul

Getting close to the awesome series finale, and all of the next three episodes are directed by the amazing Rachel Talalay, who also directed the finale three episodes of series 9 as well. Let's go!

Henry from CO

Oh Steven Moffat you fucking genius showing off your erudition. An Andrew Marvell quote for the title and a strong contender for the best season finale.

Chris Padwick
