NEW GROUND, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S5Ep10

I'm back after my eye surgery sabbatical. I think I missed the boat when I said in an earlier reaction that Paula should give some trigger warnings for a couple of S5 episodes and DIDN'T include this episode.

I agree also. It isn't that they aren't good stories but it felt like the Alexander episodes were always about him being...for lack of a better word....a brat....and didn't seem to have many redeeming qualities besides that.

I was going to say something a little similar. I tend not to like Alexander episodes because it's always a struggle, and it seems like it's just him and Worf having the same arguments. Even in later years when we see them it's like that. They do get credit for tackling something like parenting on the show, since all other parenting is about strained relationships between adults or adults whose parents are dead. I just feel like their relationship is the same struggle every time. Of course, the shining example of parenting in Star Trek is Sisko and Jake on DS9.

Yes and after Wolf 359 and what happens in Star Trek 7 to the Enterprise as well as the USS Yamato and the USS Odyssey on DS9 even the Enterprise changed by Star Trek 8 to where families were being phased out on star ships to a certain degree at least.

As someone who's own biological father left A LOT to be desired (haven't spoken to him in 20 years) Kat's love of Worf trying his best for Alexander resonated with me hard.

I don’t know if I have the energy for this one, even watching it along with you all. As I’ve said before, the vast majority of Worf episodes (particularly those that focus on his relationship with Alexander) are exercises in misery - misery for Worf, misery for Alexander and misery for anyone else close to Worf and Alexander. I’m not saying the writers shouldn’t have tackled the subject matter. I’m sure many people can relate to the troubled relationship between Worf and Alexander, and I’m not invalidating their experiences or saying they shouldn’t enjoy or be moved by the episode. For me, it’s just very emotionally draining to get through without any real arc or catharsis. I’ll watch along with you all next week. Peace.

I usually only watch the end to that episode, when I watch it at all. It's a good episode, but I find it difficult to watch.

I like to dream, yes, yes Right between the sound machine

Geordie: "[O]r Zefram Cochrane engage the first warp drive." - Hmm. Yeah, just imagine. Those who've watched ST8 know what I'm talkin' 'bout.

It is a difficult episode but also good to see Worf get some development and have a family. Also, I thought that was Ensign McKnight in my head cannon. But I was wrong there. IMDB says in this Episode its' Ensign Felton at Conn. It is fun to look up the random rotating bridge officers because sometimes they have backstories. It is also good to seeing the actors getting some semi-steady work. Like when I watch a prime-time tv show nowdays and see an actor I recognize getting a guest appearance then I say to myself, "Awesome! I'm glad they got some work they are a great actor."

Christian Rennie

Looked up the actress, Sheila Franklin, who played the conn officer. Although the episode credits don't name her character, Memory Alpha refers to her as Ensign Felton. This episode is the 2nd of 5 in which she appears this season.

Raja

Considering how often the Enterprise has come close to destruction, would you want your kid living there? This episode is case in point. Welcome to life aboard a Federation starship, Alexander, where you might get assimilated by the Borg, or destroyed by Romulans or vaporized in a warp core breach! Never a dull moment here.
