UNIFICATION PART 1, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S5 Ep7

Comments

I can't handle Picard, who is like a Mufasa to me, paranoidly looking over his shoulder accusing, "but you were looking at me!" πŸ˜‚

Pate

YOU KNOW BARRY???? That's awesome. Also, I had no clue Stephen Root was in Star Trek, super cool.

Heh, I thought that "the guy in the office" they were asking about was Proconsul Neral, so I was going to say Norman Large is the actor they're looking for. But you're probably right, they were probably asking about Klim Dokachin.

Firefly24601

Will you guys be watching the movies?

Ryan George

Agreed about the TOS movies...really wish they had gotten through more of TOS before this. Honestly, I can't imagine anyone complaining if they started alternating between the two until getting through the "30 good ones".

JXTN

I always cry when Picard helps Sarek πŸ–– 😭

Chrissonator

Kat was mostly saluting with the middle finger, I dont know what a Vucan thinks it means... I have my own idea!

Mark Ten

Stephen Root is great, I loved him in Newsradio (that was my first exposure to him), and he was great as a villain in Get Out. He's played so many completely different roles. He is such an underrated actor/voice actor because he was also Bill on King of the Hill. I hadn't even realized that was him in Office Space because he looked so different from when I'd seen him in Newsradio. He's always great.

DarkAshtar

I love that Katrina has become a huge Trek fan. Every time she gives the Vulcan salute, I can't but help but join her in it. LLAP.

Satyr359

Agreed; Malachi Throne was a great choice to play Pardek, and it's always a treat to see actors from TOS brought back for subsequent Trek productions. This episode is indeed our first onscreen look at Romulus, and I do tend to agree that they should've had better security in their home system, especially after the then-recent development of the tachyon detection grid, which surely the Romulans would've copied and made extensive use of, especially against potential Klingon incursion. As for the your point about beaming through a cloak, remember that a cloaking field isn't the same as regular defensive shield, and poses no barrier to transporters; if you recall, this was shown repeatedly in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (without going into any plot spoilers). Also, aside from a single shot of the Enterprise passing by, the scenes showing the junkyard were not re-used footage, despite some of the kit-bashed models themselves being re-used (along with several new models, of course) πŸ––

Patrick47

C-Level Staff: "We're shutting down the ship again." Normies: "But I just finished working out and need to take a shower... and I'm hungry!"

Bill

The ONLY reason I'm not a fan of this episode is that it totally saps the dramatic tension out of like, 3 or 4 of the movies... it's also a bit humdrum outside of the crossover. As for others on the ships, while they may be civilians, they are still married to service and military people. They're likely just as used to all the strange safety requirements and danger aspects as any military family. The Enterprise isn't just a vessel, but a mobile military base as well. I gather that any scientist who serves on the Enterprise or even in space, had to put in SOME time at the Academy learning about protocol and Space survival training. Any chartered passengers or civilian delegates travelling on board likely get an orientation and safety briefing before their first day is done. I doubt there are people on the lower decks freaking out and causing bedlam during crisis moments. That seems more far-fetched and unrealistic than the professionalism we've seen displayed up till now and I reject the notion that just because one is not on the bridge, they are incompetent loons ready to lose their $#!+ at the first sign of trouble.

Nolan

Proconsul Neral in the office scene is played by Norman Large. The actor will be in another episode of TNG as well.

Peter

Hey, if you really want to know what the other people 'other people' on Starfleet ships do or think when they get the orders from the bridge, you might want to watch Star Fleet Lower Decks (animated series) at some point.

Mark Ten

Love Stephen Root I'm sure someone has already pointed it out, he is also Gideon's Dad in Gravity Falls

Bruce Bromley

Remember the First Rule of the Time Lords, not to interfere with other cultures? meanwhile, thats all the High Council ever does! Same thing here with The Federation. At least The Council Of Ricks is honest about it

Mark Ten

Even as a kid watching TNG for the first time, it always annoyed me that this society full of people that are supposed to be WAY better then us in every way go ultra corrupt when they hit the rank of Admiral.

Saucy

The actor who plays the Romulan senator was also in classic Trek. His name was Malachi Throne and he was in season 1, "The Menagerie" parts 1 & 2 (episodes 11 and 12). Always great to see actors from the old show brought back, though their numbers are dwindling, sadly. This is also our first look at the planet Romulus in the Trek franchise. At least in live action anyway. I can't recall if the animated series ever showed it. Despite traveling there on a cloaked Klingon ship they would have still had to decloak to beam Picard and Data to the surface. I just found it dubious that the ultra paranoid Romulans would have such lax security around their homeworld like that. When we see the Enterprise flying through the junkyard much of that footage was reused from "The Best of Both Worlds, pt. 2" where the ship flies through the aftermath wreckage of Starfleet's battle with the Borg at Wolf 359. They just inserted a few other ships and whatnot so it looked slightly different.

Henchman Twenty1

I haven't had a chance to watch yet to see if Paula covers this. But, just in case she doesn't: I recently learned story with Sarek is based on the creator of Star Trek, Gene Rodenberry. By the time of the first TNG episode with Sarek, Rodenberry was already very ill, and the plot was explicitly based on him. And, while not originally designed to do so, this episode aired not long after Roddenberry's death, which is why it is dedicate to him. He didn't always agree with everything going on in TNG. And he had his own quirks and problems. But he was the creator of Star Trek, the one who pushed this optimistic future. In fact, his main issues were making things too perfect in the future, making it hard to get drama out of the show. His take on Star Trek continues to be missed.

Bluefox

The actor playing the shipyard manager that Paula was trying to look up was Graham Jarvis.

Raja

He has been, and always shall be, our friend. Well to Jim Kirk at least hehe

Brad Barter

Well The Gallifrey Gals have finished their "Search for Spock" he he he

Colin 3of5

As good as part one is part two is one of my all time favourite Star Trek episodes across all series ever! Not just the main story lines but a new female alien character I wish could've been carried over to DS9 for such a small part left a very strong impression both in character as well as make up etc.

Brad Barter

Leonard Nimoy was a producer on the movie Star Trek 6, which was released in theaters around the same time as this two parter. He agreed to be in this episode at least partially to promote the movie. They have similar themes.

Dan Crucy

Without checking the episode titles, I thought Unification I & II were the transition episodes between seasons 4 & 4 or 5 & 6. I totally forgot they were timed to promote Star Trek VI. The first Star Trek movie and just plain movieI drive myself to because I just got my driver's license. How did I forget.

Matt O'Keefe

It was timed to promote Star Trek 6 in theaters.

Ken Quick

Why did I think this was a season finale cliffhanger? What an odd place in a season to put this! ... Why the hell am I questioning this glorious surprise?!? Let's freaking goooooooo!
