I'm glad to know others noticed the sonics too.

Paula with A Different World reference, I loved that show growing up, such an underrated but wonderful show. I'm so realizing I was watching so many sitcoms aimed at adults as a child... When I was 14 and 15 I was watching A Different World, Seinfield, Newsradio and the like.

Hiya, Amy! 😀

Nicole Mazza

yay series 10! Really love Bill and 12!

Einar Sigurðsson

Hey Nicole how you doing? 😊

I love the look on the Doctor's face at 40:00 when Bill steps out of the TARDIS on the other side of the universe. He just loves watching people react to the wonder of it all.

John

Fun episode! I love the TARDIS lecture that the Doctor gives, and I love the setting we get with the Doctor as a professor at a university, having been there for like 50-70 years, and then comes along a woman, not even a student, who smiles when she's confused instead of frowning. And of course I love the Doctor (especially Capaldi's Doctor) as a professor, because he's great at giving speeches, people easily become enraptured with what he's saying, and he engages well with his audience. And this doctor in particular has the whole 'writing on a chalkboard' thing. Interesting villain of the week for this episode. It being sort of a villain, and sort of not, without a ton of explanation and a whole lot of supposition. Your reactions were wonderful, and I particularly liked the scene where River Susan and the Tardis are 'talking' to him, because of course they would, and of course they're encouraging him to get a new companion.

Arek Schneyer

God, when they 'Clara's Theme' during the mind-wipe scene, after Bill has asked the Doctor to imagine someone doing it to him....ALL THE TEARS. 😭😭😭

Nicole Mazza

So, I am going to disagree with you here. I do actually think the Doctor remembers all those years in Heaven Sent. I watch that episode a lot, and one thing you only really get on re-watches is: When the Doctor 'First' realizes the time loop, he goes into the storeroom in his mind and says "THAT'S when I remember! Always then. Always Then. It was EXACTLY there! I can't keep doing this Clara. I can't! Why is it always me? Why is it never anybody else's turn?" And then he goes through the whole 'why can't i just lose?' rant, 'Clara' writes 'NO!' and he responds: "But I can remember, Clara. You don't understand. I can remember it all. Every time... And you'll still be gone. Whatever I do, you still won't be there." It is not an easy thing to notice unless you do a re-watch, because there's so much time between those words and when we realize what the Doctor is doing. There's like 11 minutes after that line before the very first of the new versions of the Doctor appears.

Arek Schneyer

I love the contrast/parallel of how the Doctor says that Heather showing Bill the universe is a 'trap' and it's bad, yet he also wants to show her the universe, so is that bad or a trap too? (God, I love Moffat's writing!)

Nicole Mazza

(That’s right! And her name was Valerie. Nice catch Amy!) DOCTOR: Here we go. (He throws his coat to Valerie.) DOCTOR: Look after this. I love that coat. Janis Joplin gave me that coat. VALERIE: But you can't jump. DOCTOR: If it's any consolation, Valerie, right now, I'm having kittens. BRANNIGAN: This Martha. She must mean an awful lot to you. DOCTOR: Hardly know her. I was too busy showing off. And I lied to her. Couldn't help it, just lied. Bye then. (The Doctor drops onto the roof of the car below.) VALERIE: He's completely insane! BRANNIGAN: That, and a bit magnificent!

Also, I love that Bill and Heather are named after William Hartnell and his wife, Heather. <3 <3

Nicole Mazza

I love Bill! <3 (Though she's technically the second confirmed queer companion -- though the first on TV -- as Izzy Sinclair from the Doctor Who magazine comics with the Eighth Doctor in the late 90s was the first. She even shared a female-female kiss -- which was very edgy at the time. But yeah, Izzy is SUPER AWESOME BTW, she's a total geek, obsessed with Star Trek, other SciFi, comics, etc. She even has one Big Finish story where basically the whole plot is her using the Doctor and the TARDIS to get an out of print comic she's always wanted -- LOL. Anyway, I'd recommend checking out the Eight Doctor comic adventures sometime -- I'm pretty sure they're on Amazon on collected boo. EDIT: Oh, wait, the first one might be Out Of Print now, SAD TIMES! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1905239092/)

Nicole Mazza

I wasn't a massive fan of this series when I first watched it. I liked it well enough. Not actually sure why now tbh. Strange really, cuz now it's one of my favourite series as a whole, along with 1 and 4. I'll have to tie Donna and Bill as my joint favourites. Pearl is truely amazing as Bill, some stellar casting. Can't wait to see you enjoy more from this season. In absolutely no hurry to rush through this series.

Daryl

Gosh, this episode was more emotional than I expected watching it back. As said above, the stick insect Doctor is much more emotional by this series, taking on a student, going back to visit her Mom and really bonding with Bill, so lovely to see. He, Bill & Nardole make such a great trio.

Sufyaan Kazi

I love Bill Potts! and I love her introduction. Not a spoiler but I think 12+Bill is my favourite Doctor-companion pairing (I get to have 11+Amy&Rory as favourite TARDIS team, yes that's technicality, I don't care). They have such good chemistry. So excited for the episodes to come.

LatePaul

Also the Movellans are super 70's in design.

Chuckleberry Finn

The enemies the Daleks were fighting are the Movellans. A rival cybernetic life form. Stronger than Cybermen. They revived Davros to defeat them, which they did but also led to the Dalek civil war.

Chuckleberry Finn

I have no idea why do you keep saying the Doctor is mentally billions year old. He's not, he's never lived through all iterations of Heaven Sent, he doesn't remember those events. He's only the last version that went through them. The whole point of that episode was that every time when he reached the wall and saw the punched-in hole, he realized how many times he had already been here and then decided to continue.

Jan Popieluch

Bill! I love Bill, and I hope Paula enjoys her time with the Doctor.

Scribbles

"He never notices the tears." "I dont think they're mine."

Mark Ten

A common critisism with 12s run is that hes too grumpy... and i want to know what show theyre watching because comparing this doctor to the one we got in series 8 is like night and day. I loved that even though he forgot Clara that he still is keeping parts of her with him.. becoming a teacher.. staying and asking Bill if he can help when they were in the bathroom, both things season 8 doctor wouldnt have even thought of doing. Moffat has said that this episode is a 'jumping on point' for new who watchers much like The Eleventh Hour and it works. LOVE Bill, shes so switched on. Excited for this series 🔥

DeathSwitch

Aaaaah! Rewatching this made me remember how much I LOVE the Bill Potts character. So good.

Bill

I can tell what was filmed on any given day by Katrina's makeup and I love it!

Bill

Bill's foster mother was played by the same woman who was in Gridlock.. She was the woman who was married to Brannigan, and they had the basketful of kittens.
