In Theory, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S4ep25

Katrina is nervous anticipating the end of this season. What predictions does she have for what's in store? It's a good Tuesday with another Data episode.

Comments

I had to run off to a doctors appointment right after the reaction ended and before the discussion. Then when you my eye doctor to get my funky vision checked out out. Turns out my retina detached. So two days no contacts, surgery, then two weeks no contacts, no computer no reading, nothing. So Finally, I get to see the post episode discussion. but still no looking down and the vision in my right eye is still very blurry. As it will be until a second surgery to remove the oil they put in my eye to aid healing. And even then I'll still have a changed prescription. But I'm back.

Nolan

It must've been, not just by the writers but by Data himself. He can't use contractions unless he's quoting someone or something.

Raja

For ne it was when Nick at Night started showing things like Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Friends and calling them classic sitcoms that was the punch in the gut for me lol

DarkAshtar

They need to alter their editing to better align the episode and the reaction, this had been particularly noticeable to me the last few episodes. Are they different frame rates? Is this causing desync? I'm not sure whether the copy they are using is in NTSC or not. If this is the cause, perhaps they could adjust their reaction filming to match.

Pirateman

It's part of not dealing well with, or developing well, the Data character that this episode can't address how it has been done better.

Pirateman

Its definitely a poorly written 'serious' data episode. It's got some great moments for Brent Spiner's straight-faced comedic acting, and wonderful interactions with the other crew members shot by Stewart in a sort of 'Vox Pop' compilation style. But the core narrative doesn't stand up to the greats of Data.

Pirateman

Great idea, would fit well with a more fleshed out relationship arc between them to have an event like that shock her into realising she's not pursuing what she really wants.

Pirateman

Katrina reacting to stuff that hasn't happened yet

That is a sobering fact re: how we’re now as distant from the 1980s as the 1980s were from the 1940s. (I think all we 80s kids eventually have that Bowling for Soup “When did Motley Crue become classic rock” moment.) I think even more sobering is that we’re less than 20 years from the 2040s. It kind of makes you feel like a time traveler, having known those in your parents’ or grandparents’ generation who lived in the 1940s and likely still being around to witness kids 60 years our junior being born in the 2040s.

Artemis Zeidman

I like this episode. It's always fun to watch Brent Spiner as he gets to explore different sides to Data's personality. The actress who played Jenna also did a great job and I feel like they had good chemistry together. Ultimately we all knew how it would end up but it was fun to see how this experiment played out.

Verteron

It was very weird how the two plots weren't connected. They could've done it and lent more weight to both. Maybe Jenna and Data could've been the two working most on the problem. Or maybe Data makes some logical decision that puts Jenna at risk, and she sees he did so without any emotional difficulties. Anything to connect the two.

Joe Concepts

Don’t worry Data all you need is Spot. #Spot. Well maybe all you need is Spot, Lal your daughter and possibly Lore. Yeah that should do it. I completely forgot about that B plot. Seeing the woman in between the decks was frightening!

Lamar Bradford

Wow, comments showing this more divisive that I thought, I was sure this was a fan favourite.

JXTN

Never really liked this episode. The last moments, while honest, cast Data in a bad light. Just wish our favorite android could at the very least, seem to grow a bit and move closer to his quest for humanity.

Mark Chrisco

I wonder if Data's "Honey, I'm home" was intended as an homage to 'I Love Lucy', and thus DesiLu Studios who were responsible for bringing us Star Trek (ToS).

Henchman Twenty1

a bit early to ask, but once you get to season 6, you'll have overlap with DS9, then the movies and voyager. Any idea yet how to handle that? Maybe going by their release dates?

MrEvers

Same outcome really for the shuttle and the story, though neither was really his fault.

Henchman Twenty1

This is such a confusing episode to me. We spend so much time in previous episodes exploring Data's quest for humanity and his rights as a sentient lifeform, but here, when he's exploring one of the most intimate facets of human relations he comes off as more robotic than any other episode. I just don't know what to do with it.

Corum Hayes

Tasha mattered to Data.

John

Did Sir Patrick direct himself into the shuttle for that B plot, or was it the script?

Kirk Deighton

It seems like they had two B plots they didn't have anything else to attach them to and didn't know what else to do with so they just smooshed them together, stuck it in the second-to-last episode slot and were done with it. Moving on....

Henchman Twenty1

I am upset they didn't give Data more time. Yes, there was never going to be an emotion, but who knows what could have happened. He did seem to be getting the hang of his new program, he spruced up his room, he didn't seem so forced that last meet up. Oh well, I do have my own fan fiction in my head. LOL

e com

if data has his emotion chip made by doctor noonian soong relationships wouldn't be a problem but lore stole it in S4E3

Peter Hutchinson

Maybe it's just me, but this episode bothers me. It seams to reinforce very negative stereotypes of woman in particular that should not be in Star Trek. Like I don't think this episode would exist if the genders were reversed. But maybe it's just me.

Mike

you guys have 666 Patrones lol

William Green

This one is personal fav of mine, mostly due to the casting of Michelle Scarabelli. The first time I saw this, I was like, "Holy crap, Susan Francisco is on board?!?!"

Firefly24601

This is one of my least favorite of the season, right down there with Galaxy's Child and Night Terrors. I found the Data plotline rather cringeworthy and predictable, and the whole episode just seems like a misfire. Fortunately, we have the season finale next, and season 5 generally gets off to a strong start.

Timothy Hennon

In "Data's Day" Trio seemed supportive of the idea of Data pairing up with someone, even saying that he had a lot to offer. I assume she meant beyond just Data being "fully functional and proficient in multiple techniques".... Ahem. Now in this episode she seems to think it's not a good idea, but maybe it's because Jenna is on the rebound. Speaking of, Jenna was definitely a bit manic and clingy. The actress sure nailed it. The sad truth is that Jenna probably ends up back with her previous beau at some point. I've seen it all too often. Also, "a very passionate kiss in the torpedo bay"? Is that some sorta euphemism there? Data, you naughty android! ☺

Henchman Twenty1

Jenna kinda reminds me of Linda Hamilton

Brett Whittaker

This episode should just be called “Data gets a Girlfriend “
