The whole part one part two thing happened with throughton

I didn't realize that the habit of giving different names to the parts of the story, had stated in the classic series. I only watched it from the fifth to seven doctors and in their era it wa just "part one" "part two", etc. Anyway, for some reason, every time I hear the Daleks say "Daleks are the masters of earth", I imagine John Simm yelling "Master is the Dalek of earth!", a sentence that make absolutely no sense. my brain is weird...

For anyone in the UK (or with access to UK TV channels) Doctor Who and the Daleks is on Talking Pictures TV tomorrow (sat 4th) at 7:40pm (Sky 328 | Freeview 81 | Freesat 306 | Virgin 445)

Such a classic story! So glad to see you guys reacting to it! <3

This is only the second ever Dalek story in DW, the first being the second serial in season 1, which had firmly rooted both the Daleks and Doctor Who into the British consciousness. Their return in this serial would have been highly anticipated, so no surprise at such high viewing figures. I think Hartnell is at his peak in season 2. He’s made the role his own, with that lovely blend of impatient grumpy old man and sweet childish glee and curiosity. And all three companions are great in this story, each with their own strengths. These Dalek stories were so popular that both this and the one from season 1 were made into feature films in glorious technicolor in 1965 and 1966 (they really went to town with the Dalek colors in those films), starring the wonderful Peter Cushing as the Doctor (and co-starring a young Bernard Cribbens in the Dalek Invasion of Earth movie). Worth checking out.

Also remember that 11 million was 1 in 5 people in the UK in 1964

Glad to see you're ok :) Put your feet up,and watch Dr Who reactions - that's my advice! The Gals said that they'd be watching this serial over the next three weeks - and then start series 9.

Ian Smith

Delightful reactions :) The next two weeks are going to be fun! The wasteland that Barbara ran through in episode 1 was actually a derelict railway station just down the road from BBC Television Centre. The lack of a budget prevented the production team from constructing more than a handful of Daleks,so the robomen were created as an alternative.

Ian Smith

I'm sorry I didn't catch whether or not you're going to do more doctors, before you go back back to series 9. Are you going to do more doctors after this? Also, my surgery went well; I'm a little bit sore, but that's that's to be expected for the next few days.

I love all of this!! Thank you so much for sharing!! - Kat

TARDIS was used in the very first episode. It's more of a Susan thing than a Doctor thing though.

Bob Hughes

Susan said in the pilot that she made up the name Tardis based on Time & Relative Dimensions In Space. The first Doctor uses both "Tarids" and "Ship", eventually "Ship" falls out of use. The people who had Dalek eyestalks burst from their foreheads are the modern era's updated Robomen. A lot of the sets were already built and used for other Productions, just redressed. In fact you can sometimes see the same set repurposed elsewhere. Love you guys! Glad you keep giving your honest reactions!
