Regarding the episode Galaxy's Child

If you are in our Discord Server you have probably already read this message from the Gals. We are reposting it here to make sure no one is left out of the loop. Thank you all so much for being such a kind supportive audience to our channel. Thank you for respecting our wishes with this matter.

Regarding the episode Galaxy's Child--watching this with Kat specifically the plot line with Geordi and Leah brought up some past events, and some very raw emotional reactions to those events, for both of us. I honestly wasn't expecting it at all, but it happened and it was very vulnerable and visceral. We discuss it at length (as you can imagine) during and after the episode to try to help you understand what we are thinking and feeling in the moment and why.

Because of how vulnerable this conversation truly was, I'm asking that when the reaction comes out, we don't discuss it here, whether you agree with our interpretation of the events between Geordi and Leah or not.

We can ABSOLUTELY discuss the other plot line of the episode! Have at it! But let's please not discuss Geordi and Leah and whether or not their behavior was appropriate.

After the emotional reaction that occurred when we watched, I want everyone (including us!) to feel safe here. I don't want ANYONE (us and you included) to feel like they need to justify or explain their feelings about Geordi and Leah, whatever your perspective may be.

Comments

Looks like my comment got deleted. Oh well. Was just offering my perspective.

Given what you've said your reaction is to this episode, then when you decide to watch more of the original series, you should probably avoid the first season episode "The Enemy Within".

Timothy Hennon

Thanks for sharing! Just glad to watch the video and reaction. Sometimes no other words are needed.

Brian Moore

Yes!!! THIS 👆🏼

I notice how many people are not respecting their wishes already in the comment section. They have stated we are done. End of discussion. Stop trying to argue with them over this and respect their decision. I don't know why so many of you seem to only subscribe to this channel only to whine about their honest and valid opinions. Its fine to disagree but stop being whiny jerks about it so we don't have to have posts like this.

It's been many years since I watched this one;but I can see where the problems might lie. It's worth bearing in mind that it was written thirty years ago by a writer (now passed) born in the 1930's - so outlooks will invariably change over the years. (It was also the writer responsible for getting rid of Gates McFadden at the end of season one - so there's that!) I find it so interesting how reactors react to certain things. I clearly remember a Who reactor becoming very angry indeed after watching the 10th Doctor story "The Poison Sky" from series four - an anger I never felt myself; but, after hearing her thoughts and reasoning,I completely understood!

Geordi does not support violence and murder.

David Brown

Okay, I’m going to be brief and respectful. This is not my channel, so they aren’t my decisions to make, but since we all know certain details, as Trek fans we should all expect a few future episodes to also be very problematic, which quite honestly, make these two episodes pale in comparison. I won’t mention specifically, but I’m sure most of you can probably guess which episodes I’m referring to.

One of many episodes of television that didn’t age well. When I rewatch that a few years back it made me a little uncomfortable when I watched it again earlier This year when I was On three months of bedrest following cancer surgery positively made me squirm to the point where I Just fast forward it past the Geordi scenes. Health and well-being comes before entertainment

Oh geez. I was really hoping everyone including the Gals would've taken the time to reflect more on the Leah/Geordi thing since the initial outrage reaction to "Booby Trap". Too much to hope for I guess. And too bad we can't discuss it in an open & civil manner. But at the end of the day it is your house.

Raja

Yeah... I knew based on certain comments that that episode would be... problematic. In all honesty, before MeToo happened, I didn't see it. Since then, I don't even know how I justified it. It seems so obviously, blatantly awful now, that a part of me is shook that I DIDN'T see the other side of that plot. I hope and pray that I'm more aware of this stuff in real life now to never let it get past me like it did here growing up. For me, this is the most dated episode of the series, and I'm so sorry to Katrina that it's and the writer's failings brought up unpleasent crap for her. Major props for just getting through it, and still being willing to be open and vunerable enough to talk about it afterword. That's a real strength and I'm so glad and even proud to see you both thrive in this reaction endeavour. Thank you for allowing us to take this journey with you, even though it can be hard, and comment sections can suck and everything. I hope I've not been out of line here or anything and you both just rock, and I hope to keep watching your reactions for a good while yet. Cheers.

Nolan

Ahh yes, the infamous episode depicting the very early founding of the incel movement. I don't blame you guys.

Mike

This doesn't surprise me knowing what happens in the episode, understood 100% :)

I kinda figured this would happen, I also had a feeling that you'd not even bother to post the reaction, easily the worst episode of season 4 due to the Geordi/Leah story. They really did Levar Burton wrong with this one. Hell when this aired back in 1991 I was a senior in high school and uncomfortable with that B plot back then (or really is the space baby the B plot?). It bothered me then and on rewatches bothered me worse to the point now where I just skip it when I'm binge-rewatching the series. They really had an opportunity to resolve the issues left behind in Booby Trap and the writers chose to go this route with that revelation? Ugh.

Jarrod Wild

I was considering giving this one a miss anyway. Not one of my favorite episodes. As good as season 4 is it has a few clunkers like every season does.

Henchman Twenty1

I don't even remember what happens, but am dreading this episode now

Darren Swinbank

Kat reads them.

Steven morgan

I appreciate how you all strive to make this an inclusive, welcoming and supportive fan community, and you all deserve the same courtesy. Thank you for letting us know beforehand. (One of these days I’ll get around to creating a Discord account.)

Artemis Zeidman

Sure. I mean, it's your house. If anything I'm happy to know that you guys read comments here. Wasn't sure if I was just typing into the void or not.

R. Chang

Of course. Thank you for sharing.
