Comments

I thought it was obvious as well when I first saw the episode.

Desmond Griffin

The head of the Klingon High Council must have had 'Thirty-seven Pieces Of Flair'. If you haven't seen the movie Office Space, its a nerd classic you could watch it here.

Mr Kitty

The writers have stated that Duras was indeed responsible for K'Mpec's murder, not Gowron, but they forgot to clearly state it within the episode. They thought it was obvious.

David Brown

Wil Wheaton (Wesley) actually was 18 when they filmed the previous episode. And the 2 episodes before that.

David Brown

"Damn you Worf! You would let me go without saying another word, wouldn't you." "K'Ehleyr!, I will not be complete, without you."

Street Mountebank

On a lighter note, +2 to Katrina for calling Gowron and Duras “Sassy McSassertons.”

Matthew Zeidman

They totally need to watch the TOS-cast movies. Once they finish TNG, they can move onto Generations and First Contact. I was never a fan of any of the TNG movies after First Contact.

Matthew Zeidman

I love Gowron, that crazy bastard. Now that he's been introduced, here's some non-spoiler fun clips from the 90's Klingon games. Gowron vs Pakleds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H64l5BsFokM, and, though no Gowron, "EXPERIENCE BIZCH": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqqsL0EqASM

JXTN

If this is wrecking you, you will not survive DS9.

BlackOpsElf

There's a way to do that, but pointing out that the character even comes back is a spoiler and pointing out that he survives to at least his teenage years is a massive spoiler that takes away any jeopardy that character could be in. There's just no need for it...

Brendon Waldron

I was mainly pointing out that the actor who played Alexander initially wouldn't return and that he has since passed away.

Brad Barter

Why did you feel the need to give away all that future information about what happens to the character?

Brendon Waldron

Great episode again! So sad to see her go. As Worf mentioned in the previous episode they are already married. The ‘Oath’ seems like it is akin to the wedding ceremony or getting the marriage license. Their relationship seemed close to common law married before season 2 started. The Worf/Alexander story is interesting in TNG and I look forward to seeing it with you.

Lamar Bradford

oops, it felt like a first season one :p

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

In case you gals were wondering why Alexander, or even Worf, wasn't crying, the movie Star Trek VI established that Klingons don't have tear ducts.

Raja

Interesting notion about the poison being addictive. My assumption was that he wasn't still drinking the poison but had consumed so much by the time he'd discovered it, there was no way to recover.

Raja

There's also the fact that Klingons don't really cry when they mourn because they have no tear ducts!

Raja

This is the only time this young boy played the role of Alexander. In the future another child actor in TNG and a 3rd in the late teenage years plays Alexande on DS9r. They initially wanted him back but as he had a genetic defect in growth he was relatively the same size so they changed actors. -- The initial boy who played him passed away in real life just a few years ago at a young age.

Brad Barter

2nd season

Brad Barter

Suzie Plakson is amazing. She also played a Vulcan in the first season episode where the old dying scientist inhabits Data. Luckily she's still going strong with her own website

Chris Lane- Venturi 3D

She's also an Andorian in Enterprise...

Nolan

Oh yeah, I knew Katrina would get hit by this episode. Her professing her love of K'heylar the whole time did not help. Well, better watch DS9 and Voyager next. I'm sure Katrina would love Kira and B'elanna when they role around. They're very K'heylar-y.

Nolan

I’m sure the choice of killing off K’Ehleyr made sense at the time. And on paper it does make sense. But maybe at the time the writers weren’t able to see what a cliche it was for the woman character to die in order to justify the male character’s development. On the plus side, she wasn’t as half-sketched as many female characters. She was more 3 dimensional than Tasha was, really.

Andrew Pulrang

It’s a huge bummer and as much as I love TNG, this is as bad a fridging (killing or harming a woman solely to provide motivation for the male lead) as I’ve seen. It’s tropey and it’s bad storytelling in my opinion. Turning this cool character into nothing more than a plot point for Worf’s journey does her a huge disservice. Thankfully the next block of episodes are some of my favorites.

R. Chang

That’s NOT what I was expecting…. said pretty much every future father

Andrew Hogan

I disagree to a point. Duras had a reason, it just didn’t end the way he would have liked. I loved her character and would have enjoyed seeing her in more episodes, but sometimes people die needlessly and at some point in our own lives we know somebody it happens to. It gave another layer to Worf, or added to it as someone who is always losing the ones he loves. I hate when things like this happen, but at the same time, I respect the writers for doing it, because, it’s a shock and unexpected, when they could have taken the easy way out and made everyone happy with a storybook ending.

Andrew Hogan

Katrina is K'Ehleyr confirmed. My headcanon (and Charles Cooper's performance as K'mpec supports this imo) is that the poison being used on him was addictive, and he had sort of resigned himself to his fate by the time he was chatting with Picard. The most honorable part of K'mpec's murder was how stoically he faced it. This is one of my favorite Worf episodes, and he's just so badass in the final fight. "Kill me, and you're a traitor forever!" "Then that is how it shall be!" so badass BUT, and this is for sure one of the reasons why I'm such a huge fan of your reactions, Katrina's mentioning of not liking seeing Worf so enraged brought me back a bit and kind of recontextualized the final fight versus Duras. I had always gone along with the righteous fury Worf was clearly feeling (as the writers intended), enraged along with him and cheering him on with his, "then that is how it shall be!" This time, thanks to Katrina's comment, I just saw a man in agony and despair. Klingon revenge rituals are amazing for catharsis, but Worf was just a person who had lost his love during that fight. It was much more sad this time around. So, you know. That's what makes your reactions gold.

Joshua Gosdin

You ladies are in need of a light hearted episode ASAP. I do hope you're ahead enough to have hit one by now. There are so few this season. Cheer yourselves up a bit by listening to Suzie Plakson's singing on her YT channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgxFVieGZv4yxrzmiSiupCA

Bruce Bromley

Cats, spice, crying and snacks. What more could you want from a reaction?!?!?!

Firefly24601

There were a number of callbacks to earlier Klingon world-building in this one: the pain sticks, the Klingon death scream letting the heavens know that a warrior is arriving. K'Ehleyr's death was totally being teed up and it was easy to ignore it because you don't want to see the inevitable happen.

Jarrod Wild

I'm with Kat, K'Ehleyr died for no real reason. She was killed off solely so Worf would get angry and kill Duras. It's shown in her previous episode that she is a fighting match with Worf, and would not have gone down so easily. There was so much potential with her character, and Suzie and Michael's chemistry was undeniable. I keep hoping they bring back Suzie Plakson in another strong role in one of the current Star Trek shows. Maybe an alt-universe K'Ehleyr, which would ROCK.

Firefly24601

The actress who plays Kehlar plays a different character in a Star Trek Voyager episode.

Stephen Kronfeld

Chicken Crimpy is the worst, just like the ending of this episode...

Brendon Waldron

Katrina needs a kitten named Liara or Tali or Garrus...etc

Brett Whittaker

You have Shapes!? Yes from Australia 🇦🇺!? I eat Barbecue, cheddar and was brought up on Savoury. Watching you at 3:15am
