I take issue with Zuko saying he's considered a "pretty good" firebender. He's in fact extremely average as a firebender, very conformist, not any kind of inventor, has been known to lose control which is probably the firebender equivalent of peeing in your bed. Relies on his martial skill and brute strength to win against most other firebenders. We can see it here where he powers the zeppelin with repeated little bursts of flame from his fist; a competent firebender would simply produce a single flame of the exact heat and length they wanted. But his insecurities aside, I think his poor skill does make him a very good teacher. He is the opposite of gifted, the way Azula is. He has to work so hard to be able to do anything. He knows better than anyone else how to keep going when you fuck things up.
