It made me very happy when I discovered that the 3rd Doctor version of the Sonic Screwdriver (as seen in "Carnival of Monsters") was a prop the BBC acquired from the makers of my other favorite 1960s show "Thunderbirds". Its original appearance was in the feature film "Thunderbirds Are Go," and can be seen here: https://youtu.be/AOHBf8ZUpBs?t=4969.

Back in the days, the sonic could only do, what the Doctor programmed it to do. When we first saw the screwdriver, it could unscrew ...well screws ....and thats it. When it became to "powerfull"of a plot tool, in 1981, it was destroyed. Until the 7th Doctor got it back and through McGanns audios it has become the overpowered .... we know today ;)

The Sonic Screwdriver can get through any door in the universe..... unless the script says it can't.

I don't know why, but I've never liked the Daleks. I've never found them scary. I prefer the Cybermen instead. The idea being turned into a Cyberman terrifies me more than being confronted by a Dalek.

Amy Chlebus

Seconded!

Ka Man Chan

Good man. I was just about to remind Katrina of the Nightmare Child.

Great story, with some truly iconic scenes and speeches - the "have I the right?" moment and the Doctor's conversation with Davros about the theoretical virus, which in a sense give Davros the idea for the reality bomb in Journey's End. As to how Davros survived - well, no spoilers, but like all great villians (the Master, the Daleks themselves, etc), no matter how apparently definitive his demise he always seems to get out of it and return at some point. I suspect at the time of writing Terence Dicks felt that was it for Davros, but he is such a compellingly evil character that they really couldn't let him go. Michael Wisher does such an amazing job here as Davros, totally immobile in the chair except for his right hand, expressing the character through his voice alone - effortlessly moving from smooth tongued persuader to screaming megalomaniac. He actually appeared in several roles in Classic Who of this period, but this is obviously his definitive performance. So looking forward to your next classic reaction, and can't wait to find out which (or Who) it will be!

To answer your questions about Davros, he did survive. In classic Who. It's explained in another story how and why. But yes, several times he was "destroyed" before Nu Who. But I think the line that explains it is when the Doctor was talking to the Master, and the Master said he was resurrected to fight in the time war. So more than likely the Daleks found a way to go back through time and pull Davros into the time war. The Doctor said he saw Davros die in the very first year of the time war, when his command ship flew into the jaws of the nightmare child. Which was supposedly his "final" death ... but alas, not so much haha

The Inedible Mattman!

Just a simple kids show they said, some bug eyed monsters they said .......... Oh, Terry Nation had other opinions ..... Truth, or consequences ❤️❤️

Release the Awkward-Pause Cut!!! This version here is missing almost 5 minutes of awkward pause in the beginning, I hear!
