Great episode that is for some reason not a favourite, the cybermen are truly terrifying in here, yes they borrow from the Borg, but the Borg borrow from them so it’s fair, the kids are annoying but that’s what kids are like, I loved the fact they were honest with them, plus they weren’t in much of it. I loved it and it’s one of my fave standalone s from moffats era

I realize this is too late, since you've probably already watched the next episode, but I would nonethless be interested to see your reactions to the prequel to the next episode "She Said, He Said: a Prequel". Its short, and kind of a trailer. Maybe one minor spoiler, but less than most trailers actually are.

On the website version of Patreon on the top right hand side you should see your icon, click on that then go to "my profile settings" On the top of that you should see "apps" where you should see an option to connect to Discord.

Also, I can't seem to find the link to the discord page. Is there anyway someone can post that?

I agree with Paula's theory on that lady line. He does seem taken aback that it came out of his mouth. I think the cyberman's interpretation of the Doctor's fascination with and love (platonic) of Clara put that thought in his head. As always, Cybermen are scary but don't understand the complexities of human emotion.

I remember not being super-fond of this story the first time it aired, mostly because my expectations were VERY high with it being another Gaiman story. But now that it's taken some time to simmer in my brain all these years, I definitely found myself enjoying it much more than I expected. Like, I think some of my original issues with Angie were that I CAN'T STAND when we get traveling companions that are bitchy about where the Doctor took them and just want to go home (see: most of Tegan's stories, for example) and so it pinged me bad on that end. But re-contextualizing it as it being in character for her as a young teen really makes SO MUCH MORE sense. Still perhaps not someone I want in the TARDIS every week, but not so bad here. Plus, her and Artie were side-lined most of the time anyway, so there was that. Oh, and I'm definitely in the camp of LOVING Matt's performance in this. I know it was thoroughly exhausting for him and supposedly he almost quit, but it was so great to see him shine in this. Plus, I love seeing a 'Dark Doctor' and he definitely went dark here (which I agree with Paula -- that was remnants of Mr Clever's dark-side in that weird line about Clara in a tight skirt at the end, especially as you see how the Doctor USUALLY is in such matters, as even with River, he's a bit awkward and even grey-asexual).

As the Seventh Doctor is 'my Doctor', I just always get excited when the Doctor plays chess! <3

I've disliked this episode in the past, but I haven't watched the whole thing through more than twice. It's surprisingly good. Still not my favourite episode, or even close to it, but still pretty good. I like Paula's theory about why the Doctor said that line. It really seemed out of character.

What I didn't like about this episode was that they never told us what time period it was happening in. up until now in new-who we always knew at least vaguely when the future episodes were happening and we could learn things about each specific period in it. I was really annoyed I couldn't do it here. I solved this by eventually headcanoning this time period as The Fourth Great and Bountiful Human Empire, that the doctor tried to reach in series 1. I figured that since the Daleks successfully reintegrated themselves into history during WW2, they had no reason to hijack Human civilization in the far future

This particular episode really didn't do it for me. Luckily, we're heading into a whole bunch of great episodes and specials and stuff! Also, unfortunately, Matt Smith was very frustrated playing the dual role of Doctor/Mr Clever. He did not have fun.

Opti_Frog

Weren't the Cybermen always the Borg? assimilation is the main shtick of both species

tal goren

This is one of my favorite Clara episodes. And Matt Smith is remarkable. Love a good guy actor playing an evil version of themselves. I never hated Clara. There were things I liked about her and things I didn't. There were directions taken with her character that didn't resonate with me, and some that did. It really varies for me. But I do love the upcoming episodes! Like, a ton.

Jonny Moonsliver

Really love the outro this time around. There's just this bubbly energy when Kat said "Bu-bye!" that made me smile!

Ka Man Chan

So glad to be reaching the climax of this season: so much great stuff to come! I hope Katrina and Paula do 'An Adventure in Time' and 'The Five-ish Doctors' too. Can't wait!!

George Baxter

Would Paula ever get emotional if she heard another Doctor say Geronimo? Just asking because of how she reacted to Matt saying fantastic and alonz-y.

Amy Chlebus

I really like this episode too. A couple of Hitchhiker's references which I assume are deliberate. It's a shame that Gaiman apparently didn't find it was a real reflection of what he wrote. But I love Gaiman and I still love this.

LatePaul

Not my fav episode. Cybermen become the Borg, the plot was kinda eh, the kids were basically as annoying as they were written to be. I think it also suffered from expectations from the LAST Gaiman episode, The Doctor's Wife, which hit it out of the park. For me it's just an average episode overall. Great acting by Matt Smith though, and a great reaction! I'm so glad you guys liked it!

Firefly24601

As for the episode, I can see where the kids spoil it by being so goddamned annoying (especially the older one who has "brat" written all over her), but for me, everything else about the episode totally makes up for it. Especially since the kids are kind of out of commission for most of it.

Scribbles

It's funny that you were making me defend Moffat's work, and I normally HAAAATE Moffat's work. 🤣 Series 6 was an abomination and the less said about the Doctor and River's toxic relationship the better, or I'll be ranting for pages and pages. So I know where you're going about being upset about parts of Doctor Who. LOL And yeah, some of Classic Who is garbage, too. Especially the John Nathan-Turner years. Poor Colin Baker was robbed. (If you listen to the Big Finish audios, it really displays how good Colin could have been if they had given him good writing and good direction.)

Scribbles

Actually, I would love to hear your take on Rise of Skywalker. Actually, all 3 of the new Star Wars movies. There's stuff I absolutely abhor about them but I was able to enjoy them.
