Comments

I love this one hugely, I relate to Barcley quite a lot. Joys of being on The Spectrum...

Dan Williams

Hi! While I was rewatching season 2 I noticed this post title says S2 also — should it be a later season? Love the show!

Daniel Plummer

He was good in that episode. He was also very good in ST Voyager

Hok'Tar

A great scene from Babylon 5 by Dwight Schultz: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jknUqNWYsg

Love Katrina’s new security uniform. Give yourself a couple of pips, because you’re not a newb anymore.

Can you explain to me the spirit in which the comment was sent please? Thanks! -Paula

Barclay's an interesting character, he does become recurring.

DarkAshtar

Really enjoyed this reaction. Always love your Star Trek reactions. I did want to just ask if you think that you're possibly objectifying Troy just a little more than is comfortable? I just know that if I reacted to one of these episodes and repeated the phrase "Troy is so f**king hot!" 6 or 7 times I'd have tons of comments telling me that I'm gross or a pig. I'm not making that kind of judgement, I'm just wondering if it should be something you might give some thought to. Any, I hope you receive this in the spirit that it was sent. Again, loved the reaction.

One of my favorite TNG episodes, and Barclay’s one of my favorite characters. While the Whoopi story might be true, pretty much everyone in Hollywood knew who Dwight Schultz was, so it probably didn’t take much for Whoopi to convince the producers to give him the part. His character Murdock on the A-Team was crazy and awkward, so he has a knack for playing characters outside of the norm. I remember Paula saying a few months ago that she couldn’t wait for Katrina to meet a character this season, and I assumed it was Barclay. I can relate to him so much.

trylikeafool

The very best part was listening to Paula sing the theme while Kat was getting her uniform. 💕

Britton Robbins

From discussions I’ve had online, some people thought of Barclay as dangerous to a certain degree. I never thought of him as anything other than awkward. This is how quiet or shy people were portrayed on shows, and it’s fairly accurate. I think they wanted Geordi to take this path and then it feels like they felt like doing it with a character that wouldn’t be featured a lot.

Unfortunately, their early work is not theirs to upload as it was produced by Fan Theory. To further complicate matters Fan Theory had major server issues in the early days and lost a lot of their early footage. Luckly, Fan Theory have managed to get back their early Dr Who stuff after a lot of work, but unfortantly they do not seem to have found their Star Trek stuff.

Malcolm Wolf

I noticed your Season 2 trailer video is not available anymore, and Season 1 has never been on here. Even if you're not going to reupload these, please tell me you have all your old footage archived somewhere so all those great moments aren't lost!

JXTN

They should make a new series about the Enterprise B and C!!

Hollow Pursuits is a really fun and interesting episode. There are little nuggets of wisdom throughout it, such as how you treat and view people has a massive impact on their behavior and view of self worth. It's got some really entertaining bits in it (My personal favorite is the 3v1 swordfight in the holodeck). It addresses living in a fantasy world, and the dangers and benefits therein. And of course, it shows the values of teamwork and imagination. I personally adore the climax scene of the group of engineers figuring out the problem. As always I loved the Gals' reaction to it! I completely understand the secondhand embarrassment, but I also grew up watching this episode. I can't remember a time when I didn't know that everything was going to work out fine and they were going to accept him for who he was, and he was going to learn the line between healthy and unhealthy. As such, I was somewhat surprised by the sheer intensity of the embarrassment, simply because I wasn't expecting it. I am super hyped about next episode, "The Most Toys". I imagine Paula will love some parts of it and hate other parts. It is one of my favorite episodes of season 3, although I've got about 15 of those, so that isn't saying *quite* as much as it sounds like. In my opinion, Star trek is always at it's best when its making its audience think, and ask questions, and I believe this episode did just that.

Yalls trek uniforms are FIRE! Way to honor Tasha Kat, with the security gold :)

Jonny Moonsliver

I think it’s ironic that one character is so understated and one so over the top.

Steven morgan

Dwight is of course Murdock from The A-Team. One of the biggest shows from the 80' and at that point he was probably more famous than anyone from TNG. He is a great actor. Look at some Murdock scenes and you won't believe that's the same guy playing Barclay.

Pickupthepieces76

I love Barclay but I can never see him without thinking of A-Team.

marko

Barclay really was me, i spent my days writing fantasies about people I knew where I won fights and got the girl, I just didn’t do it so everyone could see it. This episode was one that started making me watch the show fully it also helped me understand other peopl and how they might react to me so I react to it with great fondness, i loved Katrinas reaction and how she was concerned for Barclay, I always enjoy the humour too much. Really enjoyed this thanks

Cringe Trek

This episode brings up some serious ethics issues for me, let aside consent issues regarding use of one's image. (Re-)creating not only real, currently-living people (other than subject matter experts, who presumably have consented to such re-creations) but co-workers should really be done under strict rules or therapeutic supervision. The holodeck is definitely an offshoot of fantasy (and fantasy is healthy) but it's also more "real" than something that just lives in your head or on a page that you've written. There's a very dark element to this type of holodeck fantasy. I never could explain how I felt adequately (and still can't apparently) but the Black Mirror episode USS Callister in part shows the lengths to which simulating people you know, for purposes of blowing off steam, can go bad. I'm not saying Barclay is using it for these sinister purposes. His use does seem to be of the more therapeutic variety, even if unsupervised and undirected. He is a very sympathetic character and a lot of sci-fi folks, especially back when this was aired, identify with him. And kudos to Geordi for using his own experiences with questionable holodeck interactions to try and help Reg! And I get that the holodeck is a great way for episodes to have a larger variety of settings, and to explore times, places, and themes that would be much more difficult without. I'm not against it overall, some of the best episodes are holodeck episodes! I just think you have to be REEEEALLY careful when you create real people that you know.

Firefly24601

I love that show! I watched it every week. My favourite was Templeton "Face" Peck, but who can forget "Howling Mad" Murdock! LOL

Amy Chlebus

In case you want some classic Dwight Shultz, he was a regular on the A-Team: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wPkejV_8Pl4

This Episode really tests the self image the future humans have of themselves, sophisticated, well mannered and highly intelligent. At the start they really come of as arrogant, self entitled A-Holes. I'm having trouble with anxiety issues and it's hard work to overcome my last standing hurdles, so I can very much sympathize with Barclay. I really like him.

Crow T. German Robot

Recently I watched a video on YouTube about Autism in Star Trek and it’s mentioned in the video that Barclay shows signs of being on the Autistic Spectrum. Just thought I’d pass that along. Here’s the link to the video if anyone wants to watch: https://youtu.be/59BaaifBuFI

Problem: Cat eating foot. Solution: Watch uncomfortable situations in TNG.

Gjermund Higraff

One of my favorite TNG episodes because I could really identify with a lot with the Barclay character especially around the time that this episode came out. I had been a fan of the actor Dwight Schultz prior to this point and it was really fun seeing him on Star Trek.

"Calm down, or I'll eat your foot."

I see Paula back wearing her uniform. When will Kat grace us with her uniform that Paula gave her for Christmas? Third season premiere perhaps? Can't wait! :-)......HOLY SHIT! I should always wait until after watching to comment. Kat read my mind! You look great Katrina!

Bruce Bromley

Whew that was close. Can’t wait to see the reaction to the true hero of Star Trek.

TB

Yay!
