Considering the next episode, it could get very Katty (pun intended). I wonder where they are in the series, since they’re ahead of us. I’m guessing they watched up until the last episode and they might do something extra for that one. Maybe a live reaction in the future would be a cool feature for special events.

Since the visor is out of everyone’s price range, unless Firefly can pull another rabbit out of his hat, I vote for getting Paula a Mario hat to match Katrinas.

Sometimes I forget what a badass Riker is. I love how he stands up to Fauxcard, especially in the ready room scene. When Fauxcard tries to dangle his career in front of him, I'm reminded of all of the times we've been shown how career-driven Riker is. Here, he lays aside any personal ambitions for the sake of the crew he's come to love. And, this episode is such a great payoff to Picard and Riker's first meeting way back in "Encounter at Farpoint" when they are discussing Riker's record. Picard mentions that he values that Riker is willing to prioritize the welfare of the people on the ship even at the expense of protocol or the chain of command. This episode totally validates Picard picking Riker to be his first officer.

Essoq gave it to Morn just to get him to shut up.

This is unrelated to this episode but I thought it was a fun little piece of trivia regarding Katrina's interest in Data's poker visor. At the Christie's auction where all the Star Trek props and costumes were auctioned; Data's visor was estimated to go for $400-$600 but ended up taking $6000. https://www.christies.com/en/lot/lot-4780197

All those lens flairs, maybe those Aliens are from the JJ timeline.

Paula always plays it so cool when Katrina correctly guesses what’s happening. No spoilers on her watch. I hope you all are going to watch DS9 when you get through the rest of TNG.

It is something of an ongoing Trekkian trope, I do concede. It's almost as if it's in the starfleet job description, in fact... Picard: (Sat on the edge of his ready-table desk, turns to camera.) "Are you concerned that your species has no concept of leadership?" Riker, striding down a corridor: "Do you yearn to know more about the mysteries of the human soul?" Beverley, coming up behind Picard and resting a hand on his shoulder: "Do you have difficulty understanding the simple concept of... love?" All three senior officers, on bridge, turning to camera again: "We're here to guide you!" Picard, holding an imposing leather-bound volume: "My crew are willing to let your spirit-selves inhabit their body, at a moment's notice, all for your curiosity." Riker: "And we pass through most quadrants frequently, so we're always available and on call." Beverley: "Other than possession we also accept being tricked by simulated realites, tested by non-corpreal minor-deities and cybernetically melding with omniscent AI programs. And we take all major credit cards." Picard: "So why hesitate? Why not mess with our brains now? Everybody else has!" Crew on bridge, smiling unnervingly at camera, together: "WE'RE READY TO RECEIVE YOU!"

What a great reaction, you made this episode so much more enjoyable. I loved it!

The first female Captain seen in Star Trek was the Saratoga's in The Voyage Home, played by Madge Sinclair, who went on to play Geordi's mother, another Starfleet Captain.

Ken Quick

Two bits of info: Geordi was named after a deceased fan of TOS named George LaForge. Also (unless I’m mistaken) this is the first time we meet a female captain.

Bryan Foster

Most notable trivia tidbit: Esoqq's costume is later used for DS9's Morn.

This is a fun little episode. You can have fun with Picard a little if you’re a writer, since it’s not really him.If anything this episode gives us a little more humor and connection between the crew for payoffs in future episodes. It’s a seed planter. No idea who the pianist Jordan Hanson(?) is. I thought it was one of the Hanson brothers from the early 2000’s.

Andrew Hogan

I wasn't surprised at Paula's lack of trivia. This one has always been kinda Meh for me. It has a standard and IMHO overused Trek plot device: Aliens don't understand a concept and coerce Our Heroes into demonstrating it for them.

Ken Quick

Definitely a "God Complex" vibe from Doctor Who as well as shades of the episode "Midnight" with everyone being suspicious of one another.

thereelnerd

Dr Who connections: Tivolians before Tivolians were invented, and... The Doctor Dances! ;)

Firefly24601

This had some of the BEST Katrina reactions!!!

Firefly24601

"They give us food, which Esoqq can't eat" I'm pretty sure Picard and the others could've easily been food to Esoqq given long enough. 😂

Geordie Joe

Yes definitely Snowpiercer.

David Gallagher

I’m guessing the movie Katrina was referring to is ‘Snowpiercer’.

About the spoilery Netflix descriptions: I guess they need those for better search results within their site/app. I just wish they'd add a toggle to turn descriptions off per series or something.
