Déjà Q, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S3Ep13

We have hit the halfway point of season 3 and get rewarded with another Q episode! Finally we see Q get a little humble by his own ego but does he really learn anything? Katrina has agreed with Paula this season so far has been the most delightful of all the seasons!

Déjà Q, Gallifrey Gals Get Warped! S3Ep13

Comments

I remember at the time, reading that he'd be guest-appearing on TNG. I was a bit dubious of the news as his star was riding pretty high with LA Law. Actors on major primetime network shows of that period generally wouldn't be making guest appearances on syndicated series.

Raja

Spoilers! 😁 I kind of wish she asked for the same exit on TNG

Bruce Bromley

The Gals' Datalove knows no bounds!

Joshua Gosdin

As others mentioned, Corbin Bernsen was a mainstay on the hugely popular L.A. Law. Also, Diana Muldaur (Dr. Pulaski) had a recurring role for 2 seasons of the show, and was just as widely despised as her Pulaski character on TNG. She was killed off in an infamous death scene where she inadvertently stepped into an empty elevator shaft: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov7aTXqMKfY

I LOVE Katrina's reactions. She had almost the whole gambit of emotions. I especially love her confusion at the introduction of Q2!! One of the greatest creative moments of ST:TNG!!

Richard Saldana

Corbin Bernsen, who played Q2, is Shawn's father on Psych. He's also on The Resident.

Chris Neumann

I was at a sci fi convention when John De Lancie and Marina Sirtis were guests. There was also a Doctor Whos Sylvvester McCoy and it was mused that John De Lancie would make a great Master and i had to agree.

xabdiben

It did make me laugh when you guys looked up Corbin Bernson, back in the day it was like wow is that Corbin bernson what’s he doing here

Steven morgan

Probably one of the few times TNG did some "stunt casting" as they used to call it.

Bruce Bromley

Easily my favorite Q episode.

trylikeafool

It is among the Klingons that sparkling achieves its fullest flower.

marko

This is my favorite Q episode.

As a side note I just watched My little pony with my little sister for the third time the newer one and John de lancie more or less plays a cartoon q. My head cannon has always been that it is actually q.

Alex Parnell

Yeah...Corbin was kinda big at that time and was like a surprise guest on the show.

paulh7791

Holy fuck the next 3 episodes. Shit the rest of this season for that matter. Tuesdays now are like Saturday morning cartoons as a 5 year old in the 80's.

Steven

I agree.

Steven

A really nice dive into a reoccurring character. Not many shows nowadays would devote an entire episode to such a thing. I think it speaks well to the longer episode count season structure. Some series benefit for the tighter narrative a 13 episode season provides, but I think Star Trek is at its best when it's given the room to play and explore. Continuing the theme of escaping, Q can't escape facing the consequences of his past actions forever. Sure he gets out of them by the end, but not before he himself has had a learning experience. He also decided not to try and to escape from that responsibility when the time came for him to be accountable. By the end he gets the powers back that allowed him to escape into living fantasies and away from repercussions, but he's learned a bit that, to quote Marvel, "With Great Power, comes Great Responsibility." Maybe he won't take that lesson 100% on board, but he still faced his much needed introspection and did not try to shirk it or escape from it.

Nolan

Was looking so forward to this episode. Did not disappoint. One of the best Q episodes too. There is a Q episode that doesn't have a Q pun in the title that I can't wait for your guys to watch. It's one of my favorite Trek episodes ever.

I heard a funny Behind the Scenes story about this episode. Doug Drexler was a long time member of the franchise's production and art staff. He eventually designed the "hero" ship for "Star Trek: Enterprise" (the NX-01), but started out in make-up. He also did make up on other productions, including "Dick Tracy", for which he won an Oscar. A lot of the cast and crew (especially LeVar Burton) enjoyed ribbing Drexler as their resident Oscar winner. But for this episode, when Q appears naked on the bridge, they needed a make-up artist who could do full body make up, but the union had none available that day, so Drexler was assigned to do it. So the "Academy Award Winner" Doug Drexler ended up applying make-up to John de Lancie's posterior (basically wiping another man's rear). He was later called to set for touch-ups to de Lancie's backside, and as he did so, the director Les Landau proudly announced “LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! ACADEMY AWARD-WINNING MAKEUP ARTIST, DOUG DREXLER!” ;)

Neil McRae

Soo many hilarious qoutes in this episode too XD

GreyIrohNee

I hope y’all watch Star Trek First Contact sometime

Gainz 4 Dayz

Klingons don't sparkle!

EricH86

At the time this episode aired, he was on LA Law, and Major League had just come out.

Jarrod Wild

That might have to include other series as well.

Josh G

Maybe Paula should tell Kat not to get her hopes up about the Q/Guinan thing?

Mike

Corbin Bernsten that played the other Q has been a career actor in hundreds of movies and TV shows. I bet you have seen him in other roles such as Major League and the TV Show Pysch and others.

Keith Zirwes

Sparkly Worf!!!

Firefly24601

Well, we finally hit the halfway marker. Even though there are a bunch of earlier episodes I enjoy as much as this one, this is widely considered the turning point of the series tonally. Funny enough I’ve always really enjoyed Q and John De Lancie just like Katrina states, but after reading through a lot of people’s comments and articles there are quite a few trek fans that didn’t like him. Corbin Bernson was a regular actor on a lot of shows in the 80’s and 90’s, most notably LA Law, he was most recently on a popular USA show called Psych which was a funny and quirky show. It should be just as fun to see Katrinas reaction next week, until then....

Andrew Hogan

Chefs kiss

Travis Bounds

You should do a video where you rank your favorite Q episodes once you finished all your TNG reactions.

Geordie Joe

I'm doing my best to not look ahead on Wikipedia or wherever to see which episode's next. Aside from 3x15 and the finale, I have no idea what's coming. With Season 3's awesome sauce, mostly every week like this one is an awesome surprise to unwrap as I press play. :D
