Aang would try to end a hundred years of war without killing anyone, but if you mess with Appa. . . And such a big Mommy Katara episode, but I think it works. Toph is lost in the sand, Aang is consumed by vengeance, those are inevitabilities, but what could have been different if Sokka didn't get hopped up on cactus juice? It's likely he'd have made much MORE trouble, cause the siblings being exhausted, dehydrated and grumpy means arguing about everything. What if it was Katara who got high instead? It would have been more sad than funny and Sokka gets plenty of opportunities to act adult anyway. But this way, we get jokes, and Katara gets to show her real strength as the reasonable one of the group in a way that doesn't really come up that often.

2021-01-16 00:11:54 +0000 UTCEverything I needed and more. AKA The One Where Katara Does All The Emotional Labor. I'm having a hard time coming up with a more bone-chilling, goosebump-inducing line of dialogue than, "TELL ME WHERE APPA IS." And, of course, the ending is beautifully devastating.
