I'm not sure how I feel about the resolution to the sexist old man plot. On one hand it's nice that they made peace nonviolently, with him just figuring out what's wrong with him, and I guess it's reasonable Katara couldn't beat an experienced duelist waterbender master, but on the other it would have been so satisfying if she did. All the fight scenes are so cool, but especially on the North Pole. What a coincidence. Waterbending is funny, as previously mentioned, it's everyone's if-you-could-be-a-bender last choice, even though it can do absolutely ridiculous things like freezing and boiling massive volumes of water instantly with no effort. But except for fighting firebenders and other waterbenders, it just has so little utility compared to air and earth.
