That was so good. I'm really pleased you watched season 1 & 2 it's been great.

Mark Stevens

Picard's mistakes line is one of my mantras for life.

Shawn Gates

I'm late to seeing this, but yes...I love hearing you two ramble. It adds so much charm and always entertaining. Please don't stop being yourselves.

Travis Starnes

Great episode, great reaction and a great season finale! (and sorry but it IS the finale lol). So how long's the break from Trek gonna be till season 3? 🙂 can't wait! (sorry if you actually did say and I missed it)

Alistair Hodges

Sonya Gomez was supposed to be Geordi's love interest in the show, and eventually he would choose to give up his visor and get the surgery to repair his human eyes for her. But the actress wasn't feeling it because she felt she wasn't given enough to go on, and the writers weren't either, so they scrapped it.

AGREED. I'm so pumped! -Paula

So, I really love the rambling. Also can't wait for the end of season three. We really need to keep that spoiler free.

Stuart McConnell

I'm as anxious as those two from "Symbiosis" in need of their fix. It's like you know there's a great present waiting for Katrina, but she wants to take her time in opening it. :-)

Bruce Bromley

Happens to me because my SSDI Direct Deposit usually doesn't hit the bank until after Patreon comes to collect. I think all the creators expect a few stragglers ever month.

Bruce Bromley

I felt so bad having my pledge cancelled due to forgetting to leave money in my account. However I am back and happily supporting both of you.

Scott Archibald

SPOILERS!

John

Have a feeling. I think Katrina will love broccoli.

trylikeafool

Apparently, Sonya Gomez was intended as a love interest for Geordi (to the extent that he'd want an operation, so he could see her) but watching her in "Q Who", you never buy for a second that Geordi would fall in love with her. That's why she disappeared after 2 episodes.

Neil McRae

I always thought it was strange that nobody commented on the Hathaway being the same class ship as Picard's first command, the USS Stargazer. Not only does Riker have to fight the far superior Enterprise, but Picard is keenly aware of the capabilities of a Constellation class ship.

John

Just curious. What's Paulas opinion on "Brocoli" (If you know what I mean)?

Red Claw

This one doesn't usually get brought up when people talk of the best Next Gen episodes, but it just works from top to bottom. Everyone gets their moment to shine. I think this is the season finale, the next doesn't count. Shades of Grey was just something they had to shoot in three days to off set the big expensive episodes earlier. (Q Who & Elementary Dear Data)

Jared Abrahamson

Also Lycia Naff, who was Ensign Gomez earlier this season, had a memorable appearance in Total Recall

Jared Abrahamson

Peter Pettigrew? Little lump of a boy? Y'all tearing up when Picard goes to pep up Data is so WHOLESOME. Also, I'm one of those here for the pre-reaction rambling banter.

Joshua Gosdin

Looking forward to the return of TNG, but take the time you ladies need to recharge! We will still be here. As for this episode. I just love how much fun all the characters are having. Yeah, the Ferengi threat puts a bit of tension in the episode, but it's really all about the relationships and personalities of the crew. And they are all so great!!!! It probably would have been just as good of an episode without the Ferengi, because watching them are so entertaining.

Anthony Wickizer

I always got a laugh over the last scene with the Enterprise towing the Hathaway. They got the scale of the 2 ships so wildly wrong. The Hathaway is less than half the size of the Enterprise, but that final scene it almost looks bigger.

John

Hurrah! Great episode, Galaxy-Class Gals. I love this episode. It's just an understated fun time where everything works like gangbusters. Everyone gets their own little moment and Pulaski really feels like part of the family in this one. She's had her moments so far this season, and in these rewatches I've warmed to her faster than before, but it's this episode where I felt her to be completely natural in this one. I love this episode... though I still feel massive irritation at the Ferengi shoving their oar in - I really wanted to see the rest of the 'battle simulation', damnitt! It's a shame Sonya Gomez left as a character. I really enjoyed her 'lower-decks' dynamic but upon reading up on the decision I can see why they made the decision. It doesn't reflect badly on anyone, just one of those things in the creative process. Finally I've got to say that one of the main joys of Star Trek the Next Generation for me is the scope it affords for fun guest actor spots, and Roy Brocksmith as Kolrami is one of my all time favourites. He strikes such an enjoyable balance between obnoxiously smug and delightfully funny, so you curse the guy with gusto but are left hungry for more. He's probably most famous for his turn in Total Recall, but he's also good fun in Eerie Indianna, Babylon 5, Seinfeld. This is my favourite role of his though. I'm always eager to cry up the presence of a 'hey, it's that guy!' or 'that gal!', they're the spices that make the dish. And since you mentioned him in passing can I also have a shout-out to Timothy Spall who played Peter Pettigrew in Harry Potter. It's probable that Americans may not be as familiar with him as us Brits, but he truly is a great actor who has been in countless small cameo roles, but has also made an impression in some great leading roles. His portrayal of the early 19th century British official criminal justice system hangman Albert Pierrepoint was pretty moving as was his role as the gruff, dour but truly brilliant artist J. M. W. Turner. I realise that's a big digression but he's never been in Star Trek or Doctor Who, and this is my only chance! ANYWAY. Great reaction, and I really can't wait until you tackle Season Three which is when The Next Generation truly finds its feet. Your cheery, fun and pretty insightful reactions have been something I've been looking forward to each and every Tuesday and I can't wait until Season Three. I'm sure the wait will be as torturous as the times when I was a kid when every year on BBC2 they'd put STNG on hold mid-season to show bloody snooker instead for a couple of months. The wait would make me... irritated. xx

Peter Evans

I think season 6 is the best personally, but the show really makes a lot of changes once Michael Piller starts running it in season 3. As great as season 3 is, I still feel like it takes them the first 10 episodes or so to really figure it out.

trylikeafool

Agreed on not skipping Seasons 1 and 2. While some of the episodes can be a bit cringe-worthy--especially in the first half of Season 1, I forgot how much solid character building there was in those first two seasons.

Timothy Hennon

This episode is better than I remember it being. I think I have a new appreciation for it, especially after seeing it through Katrina's eyes. Definitely a great season ahead with 3, but I might be in the minority when I say that I prefer season 4. But that's kind of like saying that I prefer a Viper to a Corvette. Both are awesome.

Jeff Seely

So sad it’s over for now, but REALLY looking forward to the start of season 3. Even though season 6 is my favorite, all the seasons from here on out are good and have some real gems. We’re finally about to get TNG the way we all love and remember best. Can’t wait to see Katrina’s reaction to all the stuff coming up! Please do a shorter Shades of Gray “talk” vid, and PLEASE consider lumping in the season 2 blooper reel. It would be a great way to cap off season 2. It’s so fun watching the actors break character and have fun playing on this more “serious” show. I agree with Katrina that this is one of the best episodes of season 2 and have always enjoyed it. I’m not one of those Trekkies that suggests skipping the first two seasons, because there are a lot of valuable character moments in there. Also, FYI - the audio was better on this one. Katrina and Paula were more even. Thanks, and enjoy your break!

trylikeafool

FYI Sirna Kolrami aka Roy Brocksmith also played in Total Recall

Christine Ester

Most of everything about this episode has been covered in above comments. The biggest changes of the show went on between seasons 2 and 3 mostly behind the scenes. A lot of the first two seasons were run by people who worked on The Original Series and people who were close to Gene Roddenberry. It wasn’t until the people who would run Star Trek the rest of the next 10 years took over for season 3 that you could see a clear difference in style. There’s a great documentary done by William Shatner (spoiler if you haven’t seen the entire run of TNG), called chaos on the bridge, that goes into a behind the scenes look at what went on behind the scenes the first two seasons and what it would become. Enjoy the videos, keep it up.

Andrew Hogan

Just wanted to say thanks for everything. You guys have made my long hours at work not seem so bad anymore. I hope u guys do consider watching the season 2 blooper reel as well. See you for season 3!

Does What It Do

I hope so as well, even if it's just for the Bloopers from S2 or some other videos that are from the Blu-ray.

Bruce Bromley

Hope you're back soon; look forward to my Tuesdays!

Josh G

That starship that was the Hathaway certainly has had a workout the first two seasons. Beginning as Picard's ship, the Stargazer in "The Battle", than as the Victory in "Elementary, Dear Data. I was hoping Riker was going to mention the Picard Maneuver this episode. That was pretty much what he pulled off. Just, instead of appearing in two places at once, he made the ship disappear completely. Can't hardly wait until you two start season three. It hits the ground running. 😁

Bruce Bromley

So about Gomez she was supposed to be in 3 episodes but the way things were playing out nasnt what was hoped for because they had confused some writing for her character, there is more information in the background section on the character if you want more details here is a the place to find it: https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Sonya_Gomez

Rylee

Most shows during that time, whether it was a drama or a sitcom had at least one clip show during it's run. I wouldn't call it lazy, at least not in TNG's case. At the end of the season it was more of a cost cutting measure.

Bruce Bromley

There's an interview with Lycia Naff about her experiences and she talks in detail about Sonya Gomez and what was originally planned for her character. https://www.startrek.com/article/interview-tng-guest-star-lycia-naff

Jarrod Wild

It's funny when some famous guest stars are completely unrecognizable. I got a laugh out of Daniel Craig being a Stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. I enjoy your rambling conversations before and after the episodes. It adds to the feeling that we're getting together with friends to watch the show. It's also funny when you forget to introduce yourselves until 5 minutes in. :) You completely missed Riker asking for Picard's surrender just before the credit rolled. I agree about not having skipped any of Seasons 1 & 2. As good as Season 3 is, it wouldn't be nearly as good if you didn't already have that relationship with the characters built up over the last 2 seasons. I'm laughing at Paula's reaction to some Season 3 stuff. Yes, I've already rewatched "those" episodes because I'm so excited to get there.

John

It's Squiggy!!!

Firefly24601

I'm a fan of the rambling. Smiles and laughter are precious commodities right now. You do not need to apologize for sharing yours.

michael mccafferty

Shades of Grey is the laziest season finale for any TV show I've ever seen. Q-Who should've been the season 2 finale and Shades of Grey should've been a mid-season episode.

Geordie Joe

Talking about Shades of Grey, I always thought that the whole wrapper of the medical mystery of an organism picked up on an away mission would be a really good episode on its own.
