A Christmas Carol, Gallifrey Gals Get Wibbly Wobbly! s5 Xmas Special

Comments

kat jenkins is a classically trained singer. also notice the lyrics of the song and its references to silence

Paul Baldwin

I really enjoyed that with you two! Also a Star Trek moment just after hour mark 1:06 you see "Guinan" wearing one of her classic hats!

Mr Kitty

I laughed when Paula said they could name the shark 'Bessie' FOR REASONS. (Classic series fans will understand)

Nicole Mazza

Same! I had it mentally filed as 'cute but Companion light and eh'. Now I'm watching it and sobbing my heart out.

Bekah

I completely lost it, when he did what he did with the Cybermen and the Timelords. In all honesty, I hope that part gets retconned, When there is a new showrunner. I also have a problem with the timeless child thing. To me, William Hartnell will always be the 1st Doctor.

Amy Chlebus

Omg that didn't connect until I just read this. Damn, that hits hard - Kat

Time Lord

We're so happy to sit and watch it with you as well!! Thank you for being on this journey with us ☺️ - Kat

Time Lord

One of the absolute best! - Kat

Time Lord

You know I was right there with you πŸ˜‚β€ - Kat

Time Lord

Thank you so much! - Kat

USS Callister was one of my favorite episodes!! Holy shit!! And I haven't watched it since I've started Star Trek. So I think I need to do a little revisit on that one. How cool! Thank you for sharing and your support! - Kat

Time Lord

Malcom, your support and kind words are always so wonderful! Thank you so much from both of us. Glad that we can be there for you in moments that you need it as well. - Kat

Time Lord

Thank you! So happy to be back. We look forward to the 17th to fully dive back in!! - Kat

Time Lord

Ugh, I get so ahead of myself sometimes because I'm so excited to discuss all of those things with y'all! Capaldi is absolutely incredible. I look forward to it! - Kat

It's ironic. The first time I saw this special, I watched it by myself and wasn't particularly moved. It was okay, but not great. Now re-watching with you two, it really seemed to hit home more. At parts of the show I could see myself in both the young and the old Kazran and watching by myself it was easy to "ignore" the things I didn't want to see, but seeing your reactions to the same things I was really reacting to made me see it. It was a little bit like why the Doctor travels with companions, to see the universe through their eyes. Thank you for that.

John

I’m not crying, you’re crying.... oh, you are crying... couldn’t see through all these tears... that I definitely wasn’t crying...

Red Hunter

So I’m not the only one who noticed that lol

ShadowChao

NOT FOR PAULA’S EYES ************* oof. First time I’m watching this episode after seeing 12. β€œWhat day would you choose?” - β€œChristmas.” No idea of that was intended. But, man. *********************

Konrad Neumann

I was fortunate enough to see Patrick Stewart's "A Christmas Carol" one-man show. Live, on stage he acted every character in the story and the way he was able to move between characters was mesmerizing. It was always obvious who was speaking at any given moment.

GOD I needed that. :) After the year thus far, just to sit down with friends, watch some great tv and just have a good cry does a body a power of good. (Yes, I consider Kat and Paula my friends. No, I don't think that's weird. [Ok, perhaps a little, but it's been a long year. :) ] )

Craig O'Flaherty

"to become a better person by literally embracing his inner child" - Funny, I never looked at it quite that literally but you are so right. :)

Craig O'Flaherty

That was delightful, thank you both!

Jason Faria

"I've never met anyone who wasn't important." So good.

Jason Faria

Also since we are showing sleepy cats, here are mine sitting across from me while I watched this: https://imgur.com/gallery/hUL4AQN

Man, this episode. I remember liking it a lot and have always thought of it as the best christmas special... but I think it's like actually a 10/10. Up there with Blink and Vincent and the Doctor. (In my opinion of course everything is subjective).

Ian

To keep in the Christmas spirit, but in the other side of the coin. If you haven't already, you need to watch or listen to Patrick Stewart read The Christmas Carol. Brilliant!

Bruce Bromley

A wonderful reaction to what I think is an exquisite episode, full of the "fairytale" ambience that Moffat brought to Doctor Who in his first year. This episode's also just such a pleasure to look at, thanks to the arrival of genius production designer Michael Pickwoad (who will be around for the next five series) heralding a major upgrade in the visuals of the show. About the only blemish in the story is the unfortunate case of idiot plotting whereby the Doctor has to somehow fail to notice the great big number counting down right on the front of Abigail's casket. Against that, however, is the reveal of young Kazran at the "ghost of Christmas Future" moment, which is a brilliant piece of writing (and a twist that I think most viewers fail to see coming). And it's hard not to be moved as the Doctor induces Kazran to become a better person by literally embracing his inner child... :-)

Steven Cooper

It's not Jodie that I dislike. It's the writing and the show runner. After their done with Capaldi, I won't be back until they get a different show runner.

Amy Chlebus

This is my favorite Christmas special. I quote the line "halfway thru the dark" every Christmas.

marko

1:15:22 Kat. You know full well that the _Doctor_ wanting to show up at a certain time has very little bearing on whether he actually gets to...

Graham Mills

Oops almost forgot Katrina middle finger salute to the man babies was awesome

Steven morgan

Think it’s quite ironic that you tubers are more demanding than patrons, especially when they don’t pay. But seriously it’s only been a little break. Just so you could have a little rest, unlike the mad break on fan theory tv, I still remember when he said the shows will be back in the fall and I was like what what now. Love this episode but haven’t watched it for ages. Forgot how good Katherine was, brilliant debut. Matt Smith is my nu who doctor but Sylvester McCoy is my classic doctor. Thank you for this really enjoyed this.

Steven morgan

Yes! definitely my favorite Xmas episode.

paulh7791

here have a huge load of Christmas who emotions oh and a huge load of feels of Katherine singing.

Benjamin

Tbh, my Doctor is Peter Capaldi. As someone who's watched NW and CW, I have my favorite classic Doctor.....Tom Baker....they will forever be seared onto my heart. I am sure you know exactly why I chose them as my Doctor, Kat! 😁❀

Amy Chlebus

I think the ladies have that effect on all of us. I've been watching later season episodes of ST: TNG and there are moments that I get emotional a lot more than I have in a long time. As well as saying to myself a lot that Katrina is going to love this moment when they get to it. :-)

Bruce Bromley

Please, oh please, tell me I'm not the only one who ended up putting on my crying Boo-Boo face for half of the episode. Lol 😁

Amy Chlebus

Great, great reaction to a magical episode. The only x-mas special i enjoy more is the season 7 one.

Opti_Frog

You know it's a doctor who episode when both Gallifrey Gals are crying. Moffett knows how to pull on the heart strings.

Travis Starnes

I watched that when it first aired and really enjoyed it but hadn't seen it since, and it affected me much more deeply this time. That was just lovely. Thank you both!

michael mccafferty

What other day would you choose to die, but the one day your death can save other people...

Firefly24601

I don't think there's anything to complain about, with how much content you two put out. You two are killing it.

Travis Starnes

It's not like you dropped Doctor Who and only did TNG for a while. You gave us multiple reactions to TWO other shows in the meantime. You've given us more than I think we could have expected during this break from Doctor Who. This is my second favorite episode in all of Doctor Who. This might be my fourth or fifth time watching it and I'm still not tired of it. It's such a beautifully emotional character-driven story. Moffat crafted a masterpiece with this one. A neat bit of trivia if you've seen Black Mirror is that Toby Haynes (the director of this special) also directed the Black Mirror episode 'USS Callister' (my favorite Black Mirror episode).

Jeff Seely

"Arthur Duvall?" Kat? You know it's Arthur Darvill. Still caught up in the moment of the episode? ;)

John

This popped up at 5am New Zealand time when I was feeling craptastic, so I wrapped myself in a blanket and watched, and loved every minute with you two. I know that some demanding Youtubers are hard to take, but in the end it just shows that they care enough to miss your reactions. For what it is worth, I appreciate all your hard work in the face of 2020 pulling the rug out from under you both

Malcolm Wolf

"One last day with your beloved. Which would you choose?" Ah, but he already chose. January 1, 2005. But man, that had to hurt to hear the question. (Which I'm going to believe is the reason for Eleven's pained face no matter what anyone says, so there. πŸ˜‰) As much as I bitch, I can find nothing wrong with this episode. And yes, Katherine Jenkins is a singer. She started out an opera singer, a mezzo-soprano. Now she sings all sorts of types of music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SzaGWtglg4

Welcome back !

Notso_Geek

Binging does change the dynamic. You don't get the time to re-watch, digest, and discuss each episode in detail and really absorb it before moving on to the next. And you need a break from time to time as well so it stays fun. I'm just glad to see some more Who reactions. :) Gotta love all the Doctors. David Tennant and Matt Smith are both remarkable, but Peter Capaldi is my Doctor. I look forward to discussing it more when you get there.

John
