I never thought Diana and Riker had an open relationship. I always understood that they were in a relationship and broke up and circumstances led them to being co workers on Enterprise. They obviously are still in love with each other but they aren't together.

Lwaxana Troi might be the biggest horn dog in all of Star Trek. Don't get me started on her DS9 antics.

I believe the music playing in the bar is Moonlight Serenade by the Glenn Miller Orchestra.

The next episode is my personal favorite of Season 2. There are several good ones here, but the next is the best one for me. I hope you enjoy it as well! :-D

Kat, both Troi and her mother's actresses wear black contacts. Betazoids have black eyes. IRL Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) has light brown eyes. Majel Barrett (her mother) (creator Gene Roddenberry's wife) had blue eyes.

50+ years ago Star Trek's original pilot called 'The Cage' was produced. Majel Barrett played a character called 'Number 1' (same as Riker's position). The TV network at the time didn't like the plot of the pilot but liked the concept of this new show so did something that had been rarely done which was to ask for a second pilot. The second pilot had nearly a total recasting done. The only actor/character carried over from the original to the second pilot was Lenard Nimoy as Mr Spock. The notes that the TV network gave at the time included the fact that they didn't believe the public would accept a woman as the second in command. How times have changed. So the second pilot was called 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' and introduced Captain Kirk and many of the other regular characters of classic Trek, including Majel Barrett as Nurse Chapel

The music in the bar is the music in any movie or show set in the forties. Also was in the film cocoon, this episode is a fave of mine, once again another I loved as a kid. Even thought it has absolutely no story. It’s a bit of fun. Also interesting how different it is to last weeks, whereas that dealt with sexual situations in quite a dated and annoying way, this was extremely fun, mainly thanks to majel Barrett.. the woman is Star Trek.

Steven morgan

Star Trek has dealt with sexuality similarly before as well. In the original series, there's an episode that deals with Vulcan mating rituals where they essentially have to take a mate or die trying. The bottle of blue stuff that Picard took to the dinner was supposed to be Romulan Ale. It was in the classic Star Trek movies and showed up occasionally after that. It's incredibly strong. Picard's reaction to Mr. Homn chugging the entire bottle was because it would be like a human drinking an entire bottle of Everclear. The music in the bar on the Holodeck is the same as used on Doctor Who. It's Glenn Miller's Moonlight Serenade. (The music the Doctor and Rose danced to at the end was In the Mood, also by Glenn Miller). https://youtu.be/rjq1aTLjrOE The episodes haven't been stellar since Q Who, but I really enjoy the next two.

Man, that backlit scar-faced guy had a real "crazy loon eyeball" thing going on. We'll see those eyes again, on a different character.... BUT NOT TODAY!!!

The First Lady of Star Trek was the voice the computer in the original series although I'm not sure if she voiced all of them. Majel also voiced the computer in the animated series where she also voiced the feline character M'Ress I think Majel was the computer voice in DS9 and Voyager a lot of the time.

Interesting that there's not even a B-plot in this one. It's 100% about Lwaxana Troi. It was a nice, lighthearted episode overall, though the stuff between Lwaxana and Wesley was really uncomfortable. Going by the way this episode played out, it seems like Lwaxana was effectively drunk on hormones. That's the only explanation I can come up with for Lwaxana going after HER DAUGHTER'S EX. Yikes. I enjoyed the scene where Majel Roddenberry (the actress playing Lwaxana) was talking to herself as the ship's computer. She continued to give a voice to computers on Star Trek all the way up until her death in 2008. Her final contribution to the canon Star Trek universe was voicing a computer for the 2009 Star Trek reboot film. (And you may already know this, but Majel Roddenberry was the wife and eventually the widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.)

Majel Barrett had a long history with Trek. Not only being Troi's mother and the voice of the ship's computer in TNG,, she was the original Number One in classic Trek's pilot and Nurse Chapel in the rest of the series. All this on top of being the wife of Gene Roddenberry. Hard to believe it's been nearly 12 years since she passed on.

Bruce Bromley

This episode is pretty slight, it's an enjoyable bit of fluff. The next two are pretty good. They both have more substance than this week's.

Jared Abrahamson

Man, this made me miss Majel Barrett, a person I only know from this show and stories from others about how awesome she was.

Robert Williams

One of the fish assassins!

I'll try to scare up a link, but years ago in a cast/reunion interview Marina Sirtis said that Gene R. and Majel B. were basically second parents to her. If she had to travel to LA she would stay at their home, she was invited to all holiday meals, etc. Family of choice, found family, whatever you want to call it. It explains why those two actresses seem to really enjoy working with each other.

michael mccafferty

I agree that the writing gets a bit hinkey here at the end. But I do love the next two eps.

Anthony Wickizer

Hey! Who was Mick Fleetwood?

Mark Chrisco

These last few episodes of season 2 are a chore to watch. The quality of writing seems to take a nose dive after Q Who. Luckily season 3 is almost upon us.

Geordie Joe

37:26 The guy at Tactical (Worf's station), Kat recogonized him in the previous episode as a regular background character. He died from cancer 3 years ago this Wednesday. This was his last Star Trek episode. How fitting was the timing of their release of this reaction? R.I.P. Dexter Clay.
