Nope, I was thinking wizards

Colin 3of5

Was it Eleven's 'nose boop' on River?

Nicole Mazza

Did anyone else notice the nod to Sylvester Mccoy ?

Colin 3of5

That totally makes sense, Paula. My own issue with Moffat at the time was that he had too many writing "tricks" going on at once. He would have Joke 1 and 2, setup for joke 3, emotional distraction followed by major plot clue but OH WAIT THIS SHINY THING HAPPENED OVER HERE... all at the same time. Misdirection upon misdirection, it seemed almost manic compared to RTD's deliberate, emotionally rich content. At the time it looked to me like he was covering up something, trying to distract from the fact he didn't know what to do. In my case, I just wasn't used to his style of writing. I was used to one style and the transition wasn't always smooth. I really enjoyed his writing once I got used to it. :)

Firefly24601

Fair enough. I'm sure the Doctor would agree. :)

John

ahhhhh thanks -Paula

Time Lord

yes, thank you for being here, Bruce! <3, Paula

Time Lord

It was a pretty big surprise! -Paula

Time Lord

for me, it's that I feel a little bit emotionally manipulated by Moffat sometimes. Like he's constantly all "fall in love with this character so I can dramatically rip them away from you and make you cry muahahaha" not always because that loss actually serves the story, but because he thinks it will get a reaction from the audience. I am very emotional by nature and don't like feeling as though that's being toyed with just for the heck of it. Does that make sense? -Paula

Time Lord

Sorry, can't help it. I love trying to figure out a mystery ;) It does mean that sometimes I miss things though, can't deny that! -Paula

Time Lord

You all were amazing at not spoiling that for me. And the end of this episode?? UGHHH whyyyyyyy -Paula

Time Lord

it really did surprise me! -Paula

Time Lord

I have respect and admiration and complete bemusement over the fact you say and worked that out well done

Steven morgan

Oh, it WILL happen!! 😈 - Kat

Time Lord

I understand Paula being unsure about the Moffat era. Personally, I slightly prefer it to the RTD era, but they both have their strengths and weaknesses (which I won't go into in too much detail as I love them both overall, plus spoilers! 😊 ). I definitely prefer both the Moffat era Doctors to the 10th Doctor, which counts for a lot! 10 did have his great moments though.

Will

I liked Katrina's 'yet' about not having forced her friend to watch Doctor Who. :)

Will

Just a correction, the romans aren’t robots made to look human, they are nestine duplicates, a throwback to S01e01 “Rose”. If they hadn’t made the one imitating Mickey look so hokey, it may have been a bit more obvious.

Darren Withers

probably the greatest speech in who history. Also got me listening to Trock (time lord rock) again like doctor noise and chameleon circuit.

BrightHeart

Kat...I may drop out of patreon during the animated stuff. But back in with TNG season 3 and Smith's 2nd season. Thank you for the content....It's relaxing and fun after work.

And now for some math: We know from various episodes that Amy and Rory’s Wedding was supposed to happen on Jun 26th 2010, the day after The Doctor returned with his new Tardis to see Amy again following the events two years prior with ‘Prisoner Zero’ in ‘The Eleventh Hour’. According to Amy, this meant that it had been 14 years in total since The Doctor first arrived at her home and ate ‘Fish Custard’. Now, I’m not sure of her exact age, but let’s say during their first meeting, little ‘Amelia’ was 7 years old, meaning she’d be 21 fourteen years later in 2010. In ‘The Beast Below’ whilst Amy is in the ‘Voting Booth’, her age is given as 1306. So subtract Amy’s ‘actual’ age of 21 and we get 1285. Add that 1285 to 2010 and that tells us that the events of ‘The Beast Below’ take place around 3295. So why bring this all up? Because when River encounters ‘Liz X’ during ‘The Pandorica Opens’, the year is given as 5145, 1850 years after ‘Liz X’ met The Doctor in ‘The Beast Below’ making ‘Liz X’ more than twice the age of The Doctor.

G0d_Ginrai

So this was a great reaction, I love how confused Paula is and we are not even at the most confusing Moffat got. Also props to Katrina, who knew that paula was almost missing Rory’s shadowy entrance and quoted his speech to draw attention to him, very subtle and what a good guide is all about.

Steven morgan

I love all the show runners think the point of the show is it is supposed to go in a different direction, Moffat was my fave, but chibnal is going to surpass him, he is definitely playing the long game and he reminds me of the incredible hulks peter David the way he writes, he definitely is showing he has what it takes. He’s just very different from Moffat

Steven morgan

I want a Tardis so I can go to next week and see the next episode.

marko

There will be a break in between seasons. But we will be introducing our two new animated shows in the meantime! - Kat

Time Lord

I think Chibnall is a good writer. Before becoming showrunner he did write some really good episodes. He wrote Hungry Earth & Cold Blood. But as a showrunner, he doesn't have the big vision to steer the show. He's good if he's given a direction to write to, but not as good charting the course of the entire show.

John

Rory's fighting his programming at the end of the episode was so tragically beautiful. It's like so many of us feeling pulled away from being who we want to be. Duplicate or real, he tried so hard to be the person he knew he was.

John

Glad you could join as well! Damn blocking bots 😑 - Kat

Time Lord

Well, I'll definitely say that I enjoyed almost all of RTD's era. Not every moment was perfect but neither is Moffat's era. Which I'll be interested to see how that goes when we reach that point for myself! And even chibnall I enjoy for reasons of it's own. I look forward to those discussions down the road! - Kat

Time Lord

I was just thinking the same thing! Glad to know there are more people who feel this way. Even if it's different moments through the seasons ☺️ - Kat

Time Lord

I just can not stand RTD in anything he has ever done. Id even take chris chibnall over all of RTDs stuff.

Scott Archibald

Each time I watch it his acting just gets more and more superb. All of them! - Kat

Time Lord

Blew my mind when I first saw it 🤯 - Kat

Time Lord

Wise advice for Paula 😂 - Kat

Time Lord

I love all of the timey wimey wibbly wobbly moments with River's story 🥰 - Kat

Time Lord

I was SO looking forward to Paula's reaction on Rory's return!! And everyone did such an incredible job on keeping our little secret 🤭 - Kat

Time Lord

I see what you did there 😉 -Kat

Time Lord

I am right there with you, Doug!! - Kat

Time Lord

At least this cliff hanger wasn't the season finale. Sure, you could binge the next show, but imagine if this was the end and you had months to wait for the conclusion? It's going to be a long week waiting for the finale. Kat mentions this was a long game. Moffat does that. Sometimes I think he lays groundwork knowing how it will be used in the future and other times I think he looks at what was already there to see what he can tie into.

John

Oh this two parter is absolutely my favourite DW story ever....haven't seen the first part of it in a while and totaly forgot how great cliffhanger it is....great reaction as always, can't wait to see the next one^^

Ekkarin22

Thank you! Hope you 2 get into Smiths 2nd season soon after finale. Things start getting crazier.

paulh7791

Phew, harsh words. I'm a total Moffat fanboy, and i hardly ever return to episodes written by RTD, but i can't say i hated everything he did. Chris Chibnall though...

Opti_Frog

Not a good week for the Gallifrey Gals on the Tube of the Yubes, Both the ST: TNG and DW reactions have been blocked. So glad I joined you two on Patreon from the start.

Bruce Bromley

It was also a neat echo to hear what I’m thinking today. I like the latest doctor quite a bit, but the show runner has left me with doubts... it’s getting better, but I’m still not trusting him.

Doug C

By Graplooks Beard? I think you need to watch "Galaxy Quest" again. :-)

Bruce Bromley

I've been waiting half the season to see Paula's mind get blown when Rory shows back up. I wasn't disappointed.

Travis Starnes

Steven Moffat is the single best show running nuwho has had. I am sorry but I literally hated every single thing RTD did with it. I enjoyed both the doctors and all the companions of the previous series. However, RTD can't write for anything.

Scott Archibald

I believe the "smart wizards" are references to his companions who keep him in line. They keep him grounded

Scott Archibald

Ooh! I would be SUPER interested to find out what Paula doesn't like about what Moffat is doing to the show. I myself was unsure about him (at this point in my watching); I'd love to hear from another person who is sort-of in the same boat as I was.

Firefly24601

I just said it to refresh their memory, in case they forgot. 😀

Amy Chlebus

Great speech by the Doctor... only to find out he's 100% wrong about the whole situation. No one is trying to keep the Pandorica FROM him, they're trying to get him IN the Pandorica. Also, props once again to Arthur Darville. His acting is SUPERB in this episode.

Firefly24601

We also saw them in "Rose" so Paula should be familiar.

Stephen Ray

Such an Episode. I hate having to wait until next week. This series conclusion was is probably my favorite of all the ones I've seen. Rory coming back. Man.

Konrad Neumann

Fun fact: Rory is what is called an Auton, which is from classic who. 😁😁

Amy Chlebus

If I could make one suggestion it would be don't try to figure out things as they come up. Moffat throws out a lot of little bits of info here and there and you'll be thinking about the one thing you saw and miss the next three.

John

When the Doctor realizes it is Rory and pushes him and then the music kicks in, is low-key my most favorite moment in Who, the look on both their faces and how they interact with that music going, I love every moment of it.

o

I love the moment when Amy remembers that River mentioned the Pandorica the last time they saw her, after the Byzantium adventure -- but at this point River hasn't experienced that yet. You wonder why River told them that in the first place, but she probably had to so that Amy would tell her in the past.

Pam Nail

The tension is building and watching the smiles and tears makes me enjoy the show even more than i have for the last 40 odd years, i think next week will have Paula needing to and extra few boxes of tissues, roll on next Thursday at 6:00pm BST

WhoIamisme

I've been waiting for this episode ever since Rory was killed. I was looking forward to how Paula would react to Rory being back. This is pretty much the ultimate "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" scenario. They all thought the Doctor would be responsible for the end of the universe, so they all conspired to lock him away in the Pandorica. On top of that, we have a despondent Rory after failing to resist what he's become and Amy lying in his arms... dead? It all makes for quite a compelling penultimate episode, and I'm excited for Paula to see how things are going to wrap up in the next one.

Jeff Seely

I used the "I am talking" speech to get out of a bar fight in Omaha NE.

o

Surely the pinnacle of all cliff hangers! Amy shot (and killed?) by a plastic Rory, River trapped in an exploding Tardis, the Doctor being imprisoned in an impenetrable box, and the universe disintegrating around the. All that's left to say is - okay, gals, this is where it gets complicated!

Lloyd B

I love this cliffhanger! How much bigger of a cliff could you jump off of than destroying the universe, trapping one hero, and killing two others? The best part is that it was established all season with clues as to what the cracks were. We thought they were following the Doctor, but that’s just because we were. It only makes sense that they were everywhere and forever, so they’ve all had time to learn what we know. So why wouldn’t they come to the same conclusion we did: the Tardis destroys everything? Just love it!

Doug C

this time we really truly broke Paula! you can tell she's mad ha ha! also really suprised Paula didn't the fact it's the doctor's prison by the clues

Benjamin

here is the actual quote, I wasn't even close: "By Grabthar's hammer, by the Sons of Warvan, you shall be avenged!"

o

"Joy will be given and then taking away just as quickly thrown in the air and snogged to death" for I am Moffat and long may my reign of terror endure......That man has made me afraid of lost children looking for their Mommies, books in large quantities, ticking clocks, blinking, shadows, statues, trees, fish with fingers and custard. If he hurts either of these two today........by Graplooks Beard, I stab at thee
