Welcome to Episode 2 of Gallifrey Gals Get Wibbly Wobbly! We have a short psa and talk before the episode starts. If you'd like to skip straight to the episode jump to 00:02:56.

We are making content as best we can, we are here for you guys and we want to give you a heart felt thank you for sticking around and being here with us! We had a few meetings discussing how and if we would have to postpone our launch dates and decided to persevere!  For the next few episodes we were unable to film in our new studio as we are abiding by self-isolation mandates in order to keep everyone we work with healthy and safe! So please forgive our little blips as we depend on social platforms and wifi to watch and react online together!

Today's episode is Doctor Who Season 5 episode 2, "The Beast Below." Settle in as we find out if Paula has started to warm up to the idea of the new Doctor or not. Will Amy get married?! What choice would you make faced with a horrifying decision that determined the fate of your entire country, Forget or Protest?!

Oh hey, the start of lockdown. Good times. Its great that you're both techie to figure out how to continue your content. And you didn't accidentally turn yourselves into a cat like that lawyer! So, yes this Doctor has different depth and focus. I like your interpretation on how his energy and tone is different.

Mr Kitty

I LOVE 13 and no one can tell me otherwise!!! -Kat

Tbh, Smith is my least favourite doctor of NuWho, not that I don’t like him I just don’t like him as much as the others. My current rankings go 13, 12, 10, 9, 11 (I know a lot of people don’t like 13, but I personally think she’s brilliant & the writing around her is suss).

Red Hunter

Indeed, some are pretty important. At least they would be easy to edit

Malcolm Wolf

Will you be reacting to the various minisodes? Some are just fun extra content, but some actually fill in gaps between episodes or seasons.

John

His anger reminded me very much of Christopher Eccleston's anger at Rose, when she saved her Father.

Malcolm Wolf

“In bed above, we're deep asleep, while greater love lies further deep. This dream must end, this world must know, we all depend on the beast below.”

Henry from CO

Fantastic. Thanks for figuring out a way to keep going.

Stephen Ray

Here is my interpretation of why 11 got so angry. He has spent a *lot* of time with the human race, saving them from external threat, saving them from themselves, gently nudging them to be better than they thought they could be. And then, in the early 30th century when by all rights they/we should know better, a glorious and magical space creature responds to a dire crisis -- and the human response is to trap and enslave the creature. The reason why this behavior angers The Doctor is not simply because the behavior is lamentable -- it is because the behavior reminds him of his own (deceased) race. He already watched one race reach the pinnacle of knowledge without necessarily reaching the pinnacle of morality. He wants his adopted homeworld to be *better* than his former one and it breaks his heart(s) when they fail to live up to his standard. Is that fair of him? No, but this is not about fairness. He is emotionally invested in the welfare of the Human race. He almost can't stop himself from being the scolding parent.

Thank you for still putting out videos. The effort is appreciated.

I really appreciate you guys working so hard to keep the reactions coming even during quarantine. I'm grateful for all of them, but I really most sincerely hope you're able to safely get back to your studio before the last 4 episodes of this season. (not sure how far ahead you film). Don't get me wrong, I'll enjoy them either way.

John

watching Paula lose it at the doctor was fun, but your not supposed to like him at this point, the truth is Moffat is probably the bravest writer, because he played for the long game and wasn’t afraid to alienate to entertain, after all if you just try to please people all the time that would become dull, Ilets face it getting angry with the doctor is better than being bored

Steven morgan

if you're a 90s kid or older in the UK, you'd remember the old guy with the glasses from a creepy kid's TV show called the demon headmaster. I loved Paula's reaction to Liz 10

Benjamin

Without giving anything away, they're establishing some of 11's personality so you become familiar with who he is when he reacts to things later. It's a bit abrupt, but they need to drive home that he's not 10 and won't react necessarily like 10 would. Also, with Moffat you need to always be paying attention. He'll leave bread crumbs for you, maybe as clues. Maybe as misdirection. In his stories, nothing is insignificant.

John

this shows why the doctor needs companions

adrian

Nor did Katrina with Dr, Pulaski on ST: TNG, but it's only been two episodes of either. :-)

Bruce Bromley

Yeah, this is not an episode to get you warm and fuzzy about the Doctor, which was an interesting choice this early in a new Doctor's run. It's much more about showing how suited Amy is to the role of companion. I love how she just goes wherever she wants and does whatever. I think Paula's reaction to the Doctor in this episode is more than fair. Loved the comment that there needs to be someone who challenges him a bit more aggressively, and there is SO MUCH I WANT TO SAY ABOUT THAT OMG.

Pam Nail

Man, Paula isn't giving 11 any leeway at all. Damn. I'm thinking these early 11 episodes will be due for a rewatch after you've seen the rest of this season to see if your viewpoint changes. One thing that does translate from one doctor to the next is each new regeneration does carry baggage from the previous only each deals with it uniquely.

John

Just finished watching. If nothing else, I think this episode functions as a true introduction to Amy Pond as an adult. We get a much more nuanced look at her personality and what she can bring to the table as a companion. As for the Doctor, I can understand his frustration. Was he harsh with Amy? Yes, but his emotions were running very high because he had just realized that he was about to effectively kill not only a magnificent creature but quite possibly the last of that creature's kind. When he said that he wouldn't be the Doctor anymore, that's no small thing. His entire identity was crashing down around him. So even though he did snap at Amy harder than he should have, you can kind of see where he was coming from.

Jeff Seely

should be downloadable now :)

Time Lord

Thanks for pushing on despite the quarantine. I appreciate your discussion afterward!

Doug C

Hate to be the Horshack of the class here, ladies, but can you make the full Whos available for download like you do with TNG? Not that I don't like staring at a frozen screen of your smiling faces, because of my lousy Wi-Fi, but there is a limit. :-)

Bruce Bromley

Side note: A full week is to long to wait for these amazing episodes. Almost wish you two did both series 2x a week.

Scott Archibald

Like Moffat, this is also not my favorite episode of this season. But it IS a very good pick to test remote group reactions to!

Firefly24601

I personally was a little off put with how caulous Paula reacted (which isn't bad) to how the Doctor treated Amy. If she just thought about it clearly. His reaction was justified. Amy literally lied to the Doctor even if she doesn't remember doing it. She decided what he needs to know. Also he was most likely not in the best frame of mind considering his choices that he could see was to a. kill everyone on the ship b. murder the star whale c. let it continue to suffer in pain for centuries, and the fact that humans did it most likely angered him. The Doctor has always put humanity above other races in terms of kindness and they did this.

Scott Archibald

It looks to me like your reactions are roughly 7 seconds behind what's happening in the episode. I realize that you're still trying to get technical stuff ironed out, and it's not a big deal. Just thought I should let you know.

Jeff Seely

Harsh but fair Paula! His character has been through some fresh trauma though and 11 is being asked to murder an innocent creature for humanity... it’s a lot for a new Doctor. But you also picked up on this Writer’s approach very quickly! The Doctor is less sensitive to feelings, it’s definitely a Moffat trope.

George Baxter

What you'll find with Matt Smiths doctor is he comes off as very quirky but if you anger him he's more terrifying than the others.

Scott Archibald

At least it was just something minor and not something like your footage being lost.

G0d_Ginrai

Hey, Sorry for the delay in posting this morning! It looks like our schedule bot was having some issues! We will keep a better eye out in future so this delay does not happen again!
